Win Malekko Pedals from The Dandy Warhols:

PG’s John Bohlinger met with Peter G. Holmström, Zia McCabe, and Courtney Taylor-Taylor of The Dandy Warhols at Nashville’s Mercy Lounge. We quickly found out that Holmström runs with a rig of such complexity that any gear nerd would evny it, but bandmates Taylor and Zia go as minimal as they can.
Peter G. Holmström plays rare, beautiful guitars. The closest to “normal” is this 1972 Fender Telecaster Thinline with an orange/creamsicle sunburst. The tele is strung with Ernie Ball (.010-.052) strings.
Courtney Taylor-Taylor tours with not just one, but two, extremely rare and nearly identical 1967 Olympic White Fender Coronados. Both are strung up with Ernie Ball .010-.052 strings.
Zia McCabe spent most of her Dandy days playing bass parts on a keyboard but recently added this ’72 Fender Musicmaster Bass into her lineup. This short-scale bass features a Curtis Novak Musicmaster pickup in a lipstick case and is strung with Ernie Ball Slinky bass strings.

Having met Peter multiple times out and about in Portland, and even having him briefly visit in my home when I had an employee of the Dandy's living with me, I can tell you he is the most humble, unassuming person you'll ever meet. Just a sweetheart of a guy...amazing talent as well...
bblando65 I had the pleasure of meeting him when I visited Portland for their show in June 2017. He is a lovely person
Until *this* moment I *never* knew the tone which leads and continues through “Good Morning” was not achieved with an effect but with a whammy bar, and *that’s* the sort of thing for which I love this series! Thanks John Bohlinger, thanks Dandy Warhols, thanks Premiere Guitar!!
I'm biased (see handle) but when I first heard that, I couldn't help thinking it was a Jag or Jazzmaster. It just seemed to have the sound of that whammy bar.
"That's great, man........cool.......awkward silence......okay, well can you show me what else you've got".
that's stoner conversation style - things just stop and start and stop and start
Where does he say that?
After a couple minutes of that, I speed it up to playback at 1.25x speed. I don't have the patience for that style. [And I've got other rig rundowns to watch!]
DO A BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE RUNDOWN!
joel has a mr. tambourine rig rundown thing on youtube
That would be great
Yes - could prolly get Ricky Miami....
Grant Anusbigian that would be awesome
Yea...good luck with that!!!
I saw the dandys live at a festival back in 2001, they opened with Pete international airport . My life was changed.
I think they have a song with that name, right?
Probably my fav band and one of the key reasons i took up playing the guitar
Are you serious??
Me too
One of the best bands ever
you know it's going to be a good interview if it's more than 30 minutes 😊
ABOUT DAMN TIME !!!! dandy's Rule ! Much love guys congrats!
top dudes hanging out chattin music, love it!
Thanks for the ride.
Thank you so much for such an extensive rundown! They sound amazing live.
what a beauty of a guitar on the intro, wow, epic
What a whimsical guitar collection.
Another great rundown. Thanks, PG.
I've always loved this series, and I'm so glad you finally had my peeps on it! Right on, keep doing what cha do! P Town Representing.....!
Saw them in Australia, not long before this was shot, I think ... Loved it! All the best, Dandy's!! :))
Peter seems very cool.
Love the contrast of both guitar players, don't know what these guys are doing right now but I LOVE the first record, dunno why haven't listened to the rest tho.
tremolo3 cuz it’s all down hill from there. They did do a live at KEXP set I thought was pretty cool, getting more back to their psych thing. But the early 2000 they seemed to be writing for this mass audience “alternative” fans, once alternative had become a mockery of itself. I take Anton Newcombe stance on these guys - just can’t help but mock their chessiness. They do seem to have matured a bit, tho, over the years. Obviously can’t slag off their success, but I think their name for the band says it all:
1 year later... Yup, first Dandy's album rule, and that's it, OK?
do a rig rundown with Brian Jonestown massacre
talking tone cool, hearing different vintage amps & guitars BETTER
If CTT said "yes, darling" a lot that would complete the whole package.
Do The Brian Jonestown Massacre next !
Wonderful
That was a great one
The Boss PS-3 predates the DD=5 for reverse delay sounds by a few months. It's not as good at it (but did 100% wet unlike an unmodded DD-5).
7:04 the wood grain looked so figured/nice, wish we could have seen/heard more.
Cool rig
i know you are premier guitar, but some of us are multi instrumentalists and that is going on more and more, can you at least ask what models of synths she had? she was the player, and she demonstrated the sound, you guys always ignore the synths even when they are played by a guitarist or bassist.
I guess they are called Premiere Guitar
Nice one Peter!
Check the Dandys on an old ABC Australia morning live music show called Recovery doing Everyday Should Be A Holiday. Great synergy in the band and nice and loose..
My god Zia is built.
john does the best run downs just sayin
my friend up in San Francisco likes them so I should give em a listen now.
On that second guitar, where he's going to take off the Bigsby, you might want to try a Stetsbar tremolo system. It's drop in, no styling or routing, you can get a Bigsby type arm for it, and even a locking nut with fine tuners if desired
kenneth gomberg -
Dandys rule!
OK ;)
Meh
Do a ty segall rig rundown
Fuzz
Peter has very good tastes in guitars.
That's great!
This is a band of pure and complete rock and rollers. It's early Stones on a drug called cliche'. The singer is Brain Jones with a voice.
Courtney warmed up to John a lot from the beginning to end
I want whatever they were snorking
"Enjoy the neverending tour".............This staggered Courtney a bit methinks....."ouch".....Very entertaining rig rundown.
Courtney’s verbalizations of musical nuances are impressive.
Think he likes Keith Richards much? Love Warhols
this will destroy you is coming to nashville in march. get to it PG please
And Deafheaven!!
Premier Guitar AND EMMA RUTH RUNDLE OF MARRIAGES AND HER OWN SOLO WORK
yes!
15:05 Cheeeeeees
haha nice catch!
Please do Nick Hexum, Tim Mahoney, and Pnut from 311
Can he say "cool" like 200 more times per interview in the future? Thanks!
I think john's saying cool so much to prompt the guitarist who appears to forget to breathe and lose consciousness:-) Nice gear and Cool dude tho
I think they all smoked down a bit beforehand..............
Cool thats great
surgery on flies......... love it!
Is it just me or is Courtney Taylor-Taylor a little bit Devin Townsend-ish to speak to nowadays?
"Lollar Charlie Christiansens"
Oh, big deal. Who doesn’t stumble with a camera pointed at them?
That's great x1000
I'm not an expert so hence my question, but how do you work out the measurement from the nut to the first fret on that first custom?
Taylor-Taylor said he runs the Marshall lead 12 amp and the old 50's amp together at the same time umm how the hell does he do that with some kind of a special splitter cord that goes into both amp lol ? Peace !
Well...yeah. It's quite a common thing to do.
Drinking game - take a shot every time John says "yeah" or "cool".... drink drank drunk.
i love watching these videos, because you get more of an explanation of why they use the gear they do, but at the same time that host ruins the entire thing for me
My response to everything is going to be “that so cool”
JB a bit quiet on this day
How didn't they shoot themselves after such a boring conversation? 1- Wow. cool, woow 2 - what does he want from me? I don't think he cares about my stuff..
Yeah ! Next BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE !!
JUST leave the man alone and let him play !!!
That was like getting interviewed by a mule 👀
There were 7777 views when I came
same
Sevastian Popov hope you cleaned up afterwards
they seemed to not know anything about their rigs
bla bla bla where is my guitar???
If the presenter stopped saying "Cool", he would be almost silent. Yuk! And the guitarist chappie is not much better.
I watch these video and enjoy them. But why do all the Premier Guitar guys seem like the biggest tools? Aren't guys who work in guitar stores supposed to be cool? They all have this weird fake metrosexual vibe.
yeah it is true, women are and respond more to emotions and men to facts, she asks Pete for everything... its ok no critiquing , just saying
People who are quick to categorise based on gender are ignorant and uneducated. Yeah, it's true, just saying.
Who? Why waste time on this rundown instead doing it for some more interesting and valuable.
It’s possible that Tele Thinline had an original Olympic White finish cuz my Olympic White 72 Thinline has aged in a very similar way. The finish for whatever reason tends to yellow…
That intro! Did John get high with them before the shoot? LOL
Difference in the Wide Range pickups is the use of CuNiFe in the old ones, they are few brands (including Lollar Imperials) which propose closer to the original replacement for the Tex Mex Wide Range
so in love with zia
After all those cool, retro funky guitars I was NOT expecting 12:53 THAT!
Lol! Surprised me too!
I love this band.... that song is so catchy..... bohemian you?
I wonder how many youngsters look at that t shirt and think "what the hell is that?"
Remember when your batteries went down and you had to listen to everything in slo-mo? :D
It's a cassette, everyone knows that.
That is a lot of gear!
Please do a rig rundown on Mike McCready of Pearl Jam if possible!!
MCCREADY IS UNBELIEVABLE THOSE PLEXI WAH ROTOSPHERE 2003 IS SOME OF THE BEST,A GOOD SUBSTITUTE IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO DIG NEIL YOUNGS EP2
Love the Dandy Warhols! Thanks for featuring them!
"hey you got blood on you.. where did it come from? "other peoples faces" ---Not said by anyone in this band but if you know.
Great job guys! ! ! Loved it ! ! !
You gotta love when John says stuff like, "Man, those original pickups sure don't sound like the reissues" he's funny 😁
Please do brian jonestown massacre
This series is pretty, pretty, pretty and I mean pretty COOL
Sounds like he’s imitating Perry W R😂
And the he names ….PWR:)
Awesome.
wow
The Brian Jonestown Massacre next!!!!!!!!!!!
John Bollinger is the most awkward dork on the planet during the interviews.
No way dude . Bohlinger has been around forever and has done more shit than you'll ever do
Yes a he would run all over you beta Male POSs out there
The energy of this rig review video is as exciting as watching paint dry.
Erroneous dude just wanted to be on TV
Great collection but a lot of stops in mid sentence...not finishing thought. I wonder why.
Um UM UM UM UM UM UM UM UM
