    My mom is taking computer classes at a local library and I'm so excited for her. We can share what we learn; me from a computer MOS in the Army, which I hope to get, and her from her computer class in the lifrary

    You'll end up at Fort Gordon for AIT. 23 weeks long, so you'll be here for a long while. Signal guys on post, the 25 series usually graduate earlier than you do. Same with 94D, 94E, and 94R who are also trained in the same place.
    Yes, you CAN get those certs. Main problem is that they aren't really doing the digital or analog certs at the school house anymore because people would keep failing it and it ended up costing the army too much.
    I don't recommend this MOS if you plan on doing E5 or above, mostly because of the high promotion point requirements, it takes longer than other MOS.

    If there's any prior service guys reading these comments: if you've been out for more than five years; you can forget about re-enlisting and keeping your rank or any certifications you have. The army will make you start over from scratch. I just went through three years of bullshit with US Army recruiting and they told me the whole time that I'd be good to go. Finally got to MEPS to sign a contract and the guy told me I had to start over from basic training. AFTER THREE YEARS. The army hates prior service and doesn't want you. Just be aware.

    • @ppapin4245
      @ppapin4245 3 года назад +2

      I was an Army recruiter, sorry for your experience. Anyone that has been "out" for more than a year "might" have to repeat BT. Same thing for other services that have never done Army BT. Before going deep into processing for a "prior service" contract, read Army Regulation 601-210, Chapter 2, Section III for criteria. MEPS will be able to offer you what is in the computer (and you qualify for)- not necessarily what your MOS "was". Also be aware that you will have NO NEGOTIATING power...you must take what is available at the time, and most likely will not be eligible for bonuses and/or station-of-choice.

      How much rank did you lose? I got out as an E4 back in 2014 and was planning on rejoining

      @joeaardvark9214 3 года назад +2

      @@TheUsername217 You might be ok because your IRR only ended a couple years ago. The way it was explained to me at MEPS was you have to start all over, regardless of what your rank was, if your IRR has been over for five years or more.

      @@joeaardvark9214 Thanks for the answer, man. Sorry that happened to you.
      Yeah I don't get why they Prior service either, I don't believe in the argument that PS are more expensive to train when they don't even need to go back to basic

    • @joeaardvark9214
      @joeaardvark9214 3 года назад +2

      @@TheUsername217 No problem. Yea, me either. You'd think they'd want people with experience too. Any business on earth would be psyched to have someone trying to join their team with experience. But for some reason all of their priority goes to recruiting new people, i.e. high school kids. Even the recruiters told me that and they didn't even understand it.

    MOS isn't worth it really. If you go to a line unit the only thing you will touch is night vision. There isn't alot of us in the Army so expect to be covering down on services and repairs for other units with no foxes. Promotion points are ridiculously high so getting over the hurdle to E5 will be rough. If you want experience with computers on the hardware & software side, the 17 & 25 series will be a much better fit.
