Because it’s over $13M for a player who’s done next to nothing. That’s almost what OBJ made last year. Was that a good move?

@@matrixphijr next to nothing. Hmmm how many snaps did he play? Was he productive when he did play? What was his win rate percentage?
Yeah none of those you’d know unless you looked it up.
Juxtapose Madibuke just a year ago, if you just looked at stats or casually pay attention to defensive lineman unless they make a sack or tackle. Without understanding how many times Oweh actually dropped in coverage, or impacted the play although he didn’t make the tackle.
Madibuke, was one of those players I KNEW would break out stat wise once his snaps increased. Which they did. How did I know this, because I actually pay attention, and watch film breakdown by those smarter and more well versed. The good ole eye test, I noticed that Madibuke was impacting plays often, he just did it in limited snaps, as the Ravens have ALWAYS brought in veteran defensive lineman for depth and leadership to help younger guys who emerge in their 3rd of 4th seasons.
This is true for many of their defensive players and it has always been this way. Remember just a few seasons back, it was a similar process with guys like Za’Darius Smith, Pernell McPhee.
Projecting forward to 2025, it could turn out to be a huge financial savings. Honestly, with increased snaps, Oweh will have increased stats and production.
      Book it (barring injury)
In context the Ravens spent that amount on OBJ to satisfy Lamar.
      Didn’t work out.
They had to overbid to get him.
Totally different scenarios. Paying Oweh on potential, OBJ was paid for his name, mentorship, help young guys grow.
WR is also a premium position, just like Edge / DE … 13 million for one year at those possessions isn’t outrageous.
It’s actually below the average for those respective positions (non rookie salary excluded)
Pocket watching athletes while making decontextualized statements about their performance is nasty work.
      Who raised you? 😂

@@matrixphijrLast year Mike Florio asked Eric DeCosta whether bringing in OBJ helped keep Lamar Jackson a Raven. His answer? "Well, I don't think it hurt. I think Lamar was probably happy. I mean, I think his social media posts indicated he was happy about the OBJ signing, but for us, you know, it was more about building out the receiver room as best as possible not necessarily as an olive branch to Lamar Jackson but building the best team we could at the time." He also said they looked at things like what kind of a compensatory pick they might get if he hit the market this year (not much of one it turns out), but also benefit to the community, the benefit in ticket sales and Jersey sales.
I guess we still don't really know for sure if it helped get Lamar's deal done or not. If so, then the $13 million was definitely worth it. Someone should ask Lamar directly and maybe they have, but I missed it.

I love this move because Odafe Oweh is one of my favorite Ravens and he's going to continue to develop and improve for more years to come especially under Outside Linebackers Coach Chuck Smith

Pass rushers tend to get better and more crafty as they extend their careers. Can't wait to see it.
