His main snare is tight like a martching snare. I do not like that as a main snare. That tight snare sound works for drum & bass, and hip hop. For funk and soul it doesn't work as to why he played mostly his side snare for the fat snare sound.
The moments that he gets quieter, playing time with that 16th ostinato on right hand and those funky ghost notes on the left. Damn, he's such an amazing drummer!
That’s funny, I’m listening to it on my phone it’s got to be one of the worst sound Drumz I’ve ever ever heard of my life. I was literally listening thinking this groove is great we know Stanley can play but my God I can’t listen to that snare drum. I’m sure it’s gonna sound a lot better not coming through my iPhone but I do have a brand new iPhone!

People on here are criticizing Stanleys time during the song, but if you listen, you’ll find the recorded track is all over the map. It’s impossible to play accurate time to this. He does a remarkable job in spite of this.
I mean its a solo too, so what about timing the entire time. The complexity of the snares, toms, and cymbals, made drum solos interesting again, and not even a click track on the solo, solo was more like a song, killer beats!! I dont read music, so it sounded pro. to me!!
Listen closely. His timing is straight. The timing of the keys gets off. He’s locked in with the bass. It’s there. Listen. Stevie’s part is off. 🤷🏿. And that being said. Sounds incredible STILL!
The sound of the drums themselves is f'ing amazing. Ideal sounds. Snare with so much crack, so much fullness in the toms without losing attack, and the bass drum just filling in the bottom, incredible. The cymbals are balanced and clean, but those drums sound ridiculous. Not to even mention the playing, which is straight burnin'.
The mid-range is almost completely absent, which kills the warmth of an almost assuredly beautiful sounding kit. Sorry, this was a great performance, but as a drummer who's heard himself recorded poorly zillions of times, I hafta disagree with your comment. It's a video in which drummers can hear what's being played, but the drum sound isn't great.
So so musically expressive. Haven’t heard such natural expressions in a while. He’s not just flying bunch of chops. He’s simply drawing beautiful rhythms of perfection all over the room. 🤯🤯🥹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the texture. You can tell he has played in a small church before and had to master volume control lol. That discipline paid off, and he turned it into a strength. Bravo!
Juan Camilo Gutierrez ok, great. You have a music degree. Ya know, some people learn things from experience too. My masters degree is in theology. I’m a terrible drummer. However I learned control from playing in church.
This master is playing one rhythm with one hand.. another with the other hand AND has his feet doing massive work on those bass drums. It's like watching someone succeed at tapping their head while rubbing their belly at the same time! How the AF?!? WOW!
Serious dexterity and timing, creative harmonic, rhythmic, colorful fills, beyond typical l, consistent ghost notation and persistent responses between patterns... This Brotha is beating!!!
Masterful dynamics, never loses the pulse. Fat snare and bottomless head high tom contrast so nicely with modern kick/snare and cymbals. All around great playing.
Dude...Soo tight melodic, syncopated nice touch too. What a solo...Learned something new never heard on recording for Superstition before too with the flam snare. Very intricate detail.
Stanley is one of my all time favorites and has inspired my drumming tremendously, being that I’m not even 2 years in yet. But, is it just me, or does this version he’s playing here, of Superstition, sound like it has a lot more toms involved in the fills and he’s added even more spice n flavor than normal besides the toms versus when he plays it with Stevie. That’s just the opinion of my ears though, I could be way off and he played it all the same besides once he passed on from Superstition. Either way, he’s a drummer you can learn a lot from, especially if you check out his whole story and how he approaches a lot of his craftsmanship.
To be honest with you, I was twice as hooked to his drum solo than the first 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong, the first 5 minutes was awesome, but his musicality truly blossomed in his solo. It's like I really got to know him once he soloed. I personally felt that if he was going to solo with a groove like that, he could've just cut the first 5 minutes down to half and start sooner...
A bit shocked this video was not taken down and re-recorded. Not sure of the technical issues that may have taken place, but it didn't make him or the sponsor look as good as it should have. I would have edited and left the solo piece stand in it's own.
It's funny that everyone pointing out his timing but this man has played for stevie since 2008. With this being a staple of stevies, he played this tune at this time hundreds if times. I'm pretty sure this man is playing the tune to stevies liking...🤷🏾 and just in case anyone was WONDERing playing for stevie is the pinnacle of drumming!!! So shut up and enjoy this beast on the kit.
That snare directly in front of him sounds so tight!! 🔥🔥
I cant stand that snare
Sounds disgusting man - hes fuckin amazing tho!
His main snare is tight like a martching snare. I do not like that as a main snare. That tight snare sound works for drum & bass, and hip hop. For funk and soul it doesn't work as to why he played mostly his side snare for the fat snare sound.
Also he usually doesn't put the snares on this on
The moments that he gets quieter, playing time with that 16th ostinato on right hand and those funky ghost notes on the left. Damn, he's such an amazing drummer!
That's the moment that made me grab my sticks and start practicing the same groove on my chair & couch :)
That snare is a goddamn eargasm

insane drummer. So funky that i’m dancing in my seat. Stanley is an absolute blaster 🚀

Whats the use of being technically spot on but people dont enjoy. Stanley did a great job !

How DARE a drummer criticize another drummer when they display awful timing. Keeping time isn't important for a drummer anyway.
Listen closely. His timing is straight. The timing of the keys gets off. He’s locked in with the bass. It’s there. Listen. Stevie’s part is off. 🤷🏿. And that being said. Sounds incredible STILL!
Your right about the original being all over the place!
probably one of the most musical drum solos i've ever seen. Pure Genius!!

i've just noticed, his toms have no skin on the bottom, maybe that's what helps make em sound so full :O
Jon Richt so if you’re listening WITHOUT headphones they sound perfect. If you’re listening with them on its absolutely terrible.
Disagree. Engineer didn't do this performance justice.
I own that drumset now. :)
This was the only time it was used before I bought it. Not a bad break in for me!
5:05 Whew!!
That first fill for me! and every single note he played after that!
so good
@@johngavin1448 I'd say that Stanley is the most innovative drummer at the moment!

Volume control does not come from playing at church, it's called piano dynamic and is part of any musician's education.

@@michaelpatrickmiller6474 that's why you're terrible hahaha
@@michaelpatrickmiller6474 lots of people dont do to church as they don't believe in bullshit
Very well done, very enjoyable, there is life and passion passing through it !!!
That’s how you do it man!! Incredible job!!
I LOVE THE SET STANLEY RANDOLPH YOUR TEAM IS POWERFUL
This master is playing one rhythm with one hand.. another with the other hand AND has his feet doing massive work on those bass drums. It's like watching someone succeed at tapping their head while rubbing their belly at the same time! How the AF?!? WOW!
Stanley and a drumset, no electronics or drum pads is all you need sweet 👌
Favourite drummer, hands down. Absolute beast.
Incredible DOPE playing! And soo relaxed! :)
Serious dexterity and timing, creative harmonic, rhythmic, colorful fills, beyond typical l, consistent ghost notation and persistent responses between patterns...
This Brotha is beating!!!
Always killing🔥🔥 one of my favorite Zildjian Ride cymbals too
Masterful dynamics, never loses the pulse. Fat snare and bottomless head high tom contrast so nicely with modern kick/snare and cymbals. All around great playing.
One way ticket back to the 70's, The song is there trough the whole solo. MAGIC!
What a monster! So interesting without being overbearing! Stanley is truly one of the best!
Dude...Soo tight melodic, syncopated nice touch too. What a solo...Learned something new never heard on recording for Superstition before too with the flam snare. Very intricate detail.

Timing is not what makes this song. It's feel and Stanley has the right feel for this song.
*I was also lucky to do a cover of this great song :-)*
Damn that snare.
Anyone else hearing the melody in his "drums only " drums solo?
To be honest with you, I was twice as hooked to his drum solo than the first 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong, the first 5 minutes was awesome, but his musicality truly blossomed in his solo.
