I think that Kong's parents were sent to the surface by Skar King for betraying him or something and Skar King banished them from hollow earth and let them die on Skull Island along with kong. So maybe that is why we see Skar King and other apes being aggressive with and attacking him because they still remembered about that betrayal
As we know shimu will survive and will be free from skar king control in this movie My theory is that we could get solo movie of shimu in future we could see how ghidorah came on earth and how shimu defeated him

They just release the entire movie online in TV spots to build the hype up for projects which are already hyped enough. Maybe abstinence from TV spots and other promotional material has kept me hooked still. I am still excited to watch the movie.
