- I show the steps to install a 3 prong electric range cord if you have an outlet with 3 slots. If you are purchasing a power cord for an electric range, you need to match the amps of the range and circuit, and the prongs on the cord to the outlet.

How do you know your amp rating to match the amp rating to your range? Sorry, I know so little about these things.
Hi, check the breaker that goes to the appliance. You can take a picture with your phone and bring it to a home center or hardware store.

Did you get new nuts for the wires when you plugged them in, or do you remove the ones that are already placed

My old range will be thrown out as it was one of the many Samsung ranges of poor quality. Is it acceptable to re-use my power cord off of my old range and install it onto my new range? The cord should be fine right as long as it has not been damaged?

How important is the strain relief assembly? Mine doesn't fit, as in the "ear" won't lay flat on one direction because there isn't enough room inside the housing on the stove so I can screw the two pieces together tightly
Hi, it's code to have strain relief on a flexible power cord for a range for safety. I would check at a home center or hardware store to see if they have a different style that would work for your setup.

Hi, you can pick one up at a home center or hardware store. They expand for a 3 or 4 wire cord.

I just purchased this stove and need it in another unit, but the guy who installed it in a temporary location removed the grounding strap and cannot locate it.

I was told the neutral ground strap be removed when going to 3prong
Dedicated ground and neutral
Tieing both neutral and ground together is not recommended
Hi, this is the recommended wiring for a 3 prong power cord. The neutral to ground strap is connected by the manufacturer. For 4 prong power cords, you would separate the neutral and ground by removing or cutting the grounding strap. Follow the recommended installation instructions from your model.
