One of several things that would have been helpful is the creation of temporary, dark-colored circles or boxes around each area being talked about. -- I find it surprising that none of the comments below bring this challenge up. Unlike several comments, I found this hard to follow and visually confusing.
The new line and APM will be good for improving local access but regional access will still leave a lot to be desired. I live in San Diego and often fly out of LAX for international trips. Currently, I take the train to Union Station and then a Flyaway bus to the airport. If I were to take the upcoming transit connections, it would require 3 transfers and would likely be time-competitive with the flyaway bus. Given its regional importance, LAX really should have an intermodal terminal akin to the one being built in Orlando. It deserves better rail access and a coach terminal.
Yes! I think they should build a regional rail that runs from the SF Valley to LA West Side and all the way down to OC. I would take so much traffic off the 405.
A regional train connection would only increase the passenger traffic at LAX. As it is, it's the fourth busiest airport in the world. The current setup of the Fly-away to LAX will continue for the foreseeable future. That will continue to be your best choice. The much more important issue is more convenient access to passengers to and from the greater LA metro region.
I never expected you to make a video of my hometown haha. LA is making great progress towards more transit but man it's taking forever. I honestly think as someone born and raised here, it'll take even longer to convince people here to ditch their cars and take transit.
Another problem is the wide variety of places people in LA county live. I think it’s a farce to say LAX serves LA. LAX serves LA county and that’s not something many think about. Sure transit connections are good for LA but don’t mean anything for over 60% of LA county residents
My parents once took transit to LAX from the Arcadia Area with my older sister before I was born. They said they're flight got delayed and on their way back they got cussed out on the metro my some random ass teen

Looks like they already ditched (or really exchanged) the original plan of having a drop off/pickup point near the 405. Appears they’ve moved this closer in to lax, near the city bus depot, and put the massive car rental center over by 405. Dare I say, anything built would be an improvement at this point. As to whether city can pry drivers out of their cars… uh, good luck.

LAX looks like they're doing the smart thing and making public transit a centrepiece of their airport! For a city so known for sprawl and noxious car culture this is a really welcome development! Looking forward to more future of transit videos coming up! :D
They need to make the Sepulveda line run as far north and south along Sepulveda as they can. Including the Valley, and all the way down/past Long Beach
You forgot to mention Terminal 2 and 3 expansion and remodeling (Delta Airlines). Construction has been happening for a while. Once completed, there will be a terminal side walkway connection to the Bradley Terminal, like the terminals on the south end of the loop. I'm thinking the new terminals on the east end of the terminal area (Terminal 0, although I doubt they'll call it that, and Terminal 9) may be delayed, if projections for passenger traffic for the long term decrease because of COVID-19. That, along with financial issues that are currently occurring because of the virus.
In 1961 when LAX built this modern layout, it was the most cutting edge well thought out airport in the country, with independent satellites with gates for the aircraft connected by tunnels to the ticketing terminals. That footprint, though brilliant for those times, didn’t work well for future expansions. That was LAX’s problem. Now, about today. The midfield concourse or as they are called now, the West Gates at Tom Bradley, are now open. I think they are for lower cost carriers, they were moving lower premium airlines over there, and though the terminal is impressive and modern (I toured it already), carriers like Lufthansa, British, KLM and all the like are not going over, but Sun Country, Aero Viva, and the like are. That’s why I think they built it to leave Tom Bradley for the big premium cats. One thing you didn’t mention is that they are connecting Terminal 1, 2 and 3 as we speak, they are already connected with construction due to finish soon. The next step will be to connect them all to Tom Bradley, and they are already on the initial planning stage. They have also built a new Bagroom area just off Tom Bradley just north of gate 148. The big plan is to convert the entire belly of the actual Tom Bradley ticketing building, where the current massive Bagroom area is, into TSA. That will be a huge construction undertaking since that has been the main Bagroom since Tom Bradley opened in the early 80’s. There’s construction literally going on all over LAX, it’s chaotic, but when all is done it will be pretty sweet.

Have lived in LA, the sepulveda tunnel underneath the runway needs to be expanded. But it's good to know that the car rentals will all be consolidated just west of the 405 Freeway. That whole area needed a makeover. Especially, if LA's hosting the Olympics in 2028.
Finally, an explanatory video re the lax updates. Thank you! It’s been so difficult to piece together an overview/picture of this project in my mind. Green line still is playing backup I see. Awaiting Crenshaw line for metro connection.
I wish they got rid of the parking in the horseshoe and either rebuild it smaller and smarter allowing for better flow in/out of the airport. I understand that the people mover is meant to reduce vehicles and people coming/leaving the airport by shuttling them off-site for public transit, car rentals, large vans, maybe uber/lyft if that exists in the 2023, etc. Also I wish there was a a tunnel connection between terminals 1-3 to 4-8. I know TBIT will connect all the adjacent terminals but what if you want to get some good food from T-1 but you are in T-8. Thats a long walk around. Im just saying to be interconnected airside there needs to be connections between domestic terminals.
I thought maybe they can add a secure pathway using the people mover bridges station to terminal. Just build a bigger pathway bridge and put a thick frosted glass to separate the bridge path in two.
I agree, but I think they are trying to wean car centric Los Angeles away from cars into public transit in stages (this being the first stage; and only 50 years overdue! ;)). There would probably be a riot if they got rid of cars in the horseshoe. ;). It’s going to be interesting to see the carrot and stick approaches rolling out by time of Olympics. I can hear the yelling already. ;) expecting such bc anytime a mere bike lane is added to a street it’s a big deal often opposed. So let’s just hope it’s not a boondoggle.
Can you cover Frankfurt Airport FRA in a future video? They are adding a third terminal to it but most importantly that airport already is so well connected to basically all modes of transportation that I think it should serve as an example for many other airports
I hate LAX. I'm pretty excited about the people mover and new transit line as it'll make the whole process of switching terminals way less painful. I've had some horrible experiences at LAX dealing with their stupid shuttle buses.
All the terminals will finally be connected behind security too. They're building the last connection between TBIT and terminal 3 right now. Should be ready next year as will the people mover and shared Metro station.
Very good video would u do Calgary and Edmonton airports and would transit go there I know Calgary has three bus routes going to the airport but Edmonton dosen't
That doesn’t change the carbon footprint. That just adds more to cars (personal, rental, and ride share) needed to to travel more miles from LAX to the city proper.
Can you do OIA (Orlando)? We are getting a lot of new things like an expansion of our Sunrail, Virgin Trains USA (formerly Brightline), and a new terminal.

definitely. it deserves a normal rail station like they do in Europe. APMs make sense for small airports
I agree. I take the Flyaway for convenience. I wouldn't want to take 2-3 transfer on a train, especially late at night when my flight arrives at 1am.

Both the C and K lines will connect with the LAX People Mover.
In other words, public transit around LAX is just as big of a disaster as it is at the disastrous San Diego Airport.

You can take the air side shuttle. Though all the terminals are getting renovated and will have better food choices too
