Looking back on it, I think the new terrain you weren't able to explore was sun valley's attempt at trying to do something to stand out. I ski at sun valley a lot and I often run into the problem that there isn't enough tough terrain, however I have not tried the new stuff yet.
The thing that sets Sun valley apart is that they are the biggest ski area close to the main parts of the state. Bogus basin, tamarack, and brundage are all smaller then sunvalley.
didn’t talk as much during the ski day haha was just cruising for the 4-5 laps I had time for. Hope you guys enjoyed the video anyways! We’re gearing up for TWO days of heli skiing this weekend!!
Fun to watch you explore a new mountain. Note: that sketchy run was not Rock Garden; you were about 100 feet skier's right of Rock Garden. Years ago we used to call that unofficial route you took Execution, in part because all the cat tracks that cross it were great for throwing inverts. Rock Garden can be sketch in the spring because it also faces due south with the same pitch, but it is much more open with large moguls and an easy exit at the bottom. While Sun Valley skiers do it all, and hit the Bowls on their pow skis when the timing is right (which unfortunately it was not on your weekend), the soul and history of Sun Valley is more racing based. To really get Sun Valley, a person needs to grab a pair of sharp, narrow, race skis (or at least serious carvers), a pair of stiff race boots, and the skills to lay trenches on hard snow. That is why so many ex-racers retire here to spend their days laying into high-G arcs on racecourse quality snow.
this is honestly awesome dude. thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and enlighten me. it makes so much sense because there were a ton of ski teams around when i was there. i dont even own a pair of sharp, narrow, race skis haha but i could see why so many people had those types of skis on! i was definitely not prepared for the conditions with my 116 pow boards haha. thanks again man!
Lived in Ketchum and Boise for 8 years. Sun Valley has great runs... you gotta find them. Spring season not all the runs are open as they are already melting off. Out of bounds is the best
Gorgeous! Loved this video. I hate to see ski season end. I guess you can head to Timberline Lodge, OR for nearly year round skiing. And, those are some long skinny skis.
Thanks Susan! Definitely bittersweet seeing ski season come to another close but I love summer in the mountains too! And yup planning on making a summer ski trip 🤞🏽
The thing that I really love about Lucas’s videos is he takes us on the adventure and we feel like we are going with him and he puts so much time on his videos and the editing is great!! Keep up the great vids! Most underrated RUclipsr on the platform! Keep up the grind! #roadto4k
I really appreciate your support dude! I’m glad you enjoy the adventure component of the episodes and view the episodes as a part of the whole season! Road to 4k for sure!!
Yikes! at the grass spots on that black diamond. Hope you didn’t mess up your skis getting out of the rock garden. Haha Loving the scenic views, very beautiful. Can’t wait to see the Heli ski!! Great job Lucas.
Yikes is right haha! Didnt mess them up too bad. I’ve done worse! And yeah sun valley was super scenic. Beautiful day! And thanks Julie! Should be an entertaining vlog!!
@@LucasCatania17 A group of us on March 4 entered the Sunrise area (this is its first year being officially open), but from the very top of Seattle Ridge (not the lower Fire Trail that you did), we avoided the actual bowl part due to heavy snow and went along a ridge to get into The Glades. I never did so much side stepping (not slipping) and rock and root-hopping in my life. Snow was so thin. Finally we got into the Glades which was decent. Glad we never did Rock Garden!
Another great vid mate! Been enjoying them all and can't wait to get out for a ski. Please let me know if you would be interested in trying out any footbeds/socks. Would be happy to send you some. Cheers
Thanks mate! Stoked you enjoy them! Hopefully you can get out soon! Would be happy to try out a pair of socks as I only have one pair that I use hahaha
@14:00 ... ive been there once and felt exactly the same, i kinda feel theres always lack of snow .... it will take some years until i decide to go back
thanks for watching that far man!!! its not like it wasnt a fun and rad little ski resort, just wasnt amongst my favorites. i guess they arent known for having awesome snow?
Yeah man overrated for sure, but the vert makes up for some. Liked the vid, stellar b-rolls, and I'm from the area if you want a tour guide next time haha. ✌
Thanks man! It was definitely an awesome place, I guess I was just expecting something different. And nice haha might hit you up for that tour next time!
I think the thing that sets Sun Valley apart from other resorts is the general steepness of the runs and the constant pitch. Hardly any flat parts on runs. Great vid!
haha it was peter! it kept getting sketchier and sketchier as i kept going down, but i could tell it was off as soon as i dropped in. thanks for the support homie!
@@LucasCatania17 ye it’s not like the video of Utah you posted a couple hours ago but it is a unique experience and one that you can enjoy no matter the snow. Keep up the great work!
Wow, those are lousy snow conditions for a Western resort in early March (Spring doesn't start until the 20th). Conditions are as good and in many cases better by uploaded videos in the last few days at resorts like Whiteface Mountain, etc. here on the East Coast....
I just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying skiing vicariously through your vlogs. A rock climbing fall from 20+ years ago is currently preventing me from skiing in person. However your channel is bringing back a lot of great memories especially from Park City, the Bird and Jackson Hole. I love your video style. I just wish the camera didn't flatten out the perceived steepness of the terrain looking downhill. Maybe someday technology will solve that issue. Just FYI, the falls that you went to, Shoshone Falls, is pronounced 'show-show-nee' (It is the name of a Native American tribe that lived in southern Idaho and western Wyo). Really looking forward to following your channel as it progresses!
Hey Lee. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my vlogs and leave a comment. Sorry to hear about your fall many years ago but I’m glad you can find solace in the videos. And yeah definitely a bummer that the head cam flattens out the steepness. I think that’s largely because it’s such a wide angle! And thanks for the pronunciation haha! For some reason I was struggling with that. Known as the Niagara of the west so I’m excited to go back when there’s some good flow! Thanks again Lee!

Next season for sure!
Sun valley’s “zinger” is the new mountain sadly it was closed that day that you were there but it has some awesome terrain that it super fun to shred
Sweet!
Hey I live here next time your up here let me show you around!
absolutely man!! i could use some guidance in the area haha
Nice vid man
Thanks dude!
Sun Valley - first motorized chairlift and THE LODGES are dope. Very social mountain. Take a run. Have a drink. Repeat.
thats awesome! thanks for sharing! i had no idea!!
What makes sun valley stand out is it’s history, first chairlift in the world
ahh yes you are right!

go in the late spring or summer for the falls!

Thers noting i like more on YT than supporting and watching "smaller" channels
Were there blooming flowers in the bare spots on Rock Garden? Man, that’s sparse.
there were! it was super light. i think cause its so sun exposed that it has difficulty holding snow. definitely super sparse.
high quality video!
thanks dude!! appreciate your support man!
Dope as always brother. #roadto4k
Thanks homie! #roadto4k
Thanks Lucas for the go for it attitude especially for us during the pandemic You Rock!
thank you bill! stoked you enjoyed it!
Looks like another epic weekend!
Sure was dude! Hard to have a bad weekend skiing!

Another great day skiing, lift lines looked short too! Thanks for sharing Lucas, look forward to more! Time to find that spring corn snow!
Thanks for watching jay! Definitely a great spring day! 40 degree weather, short lines, lots of sun!
Some really great shots l, stark difference from last vlog. Music for the ‘runs’ period was so good too!
Thanks dude! Definitely a HUGE difference from the day before hahah! Was nice to get a proper spring day in up there though! Hope all is well matt!
VIews there are epic. My little local midwest slope is about to close so I am glad I can still experience the snow through your vids!
Ah bummer dude! Crazy that resorts here will be closing in the next few weeks as well! Should have a few awesome weekends ahead though!
I think the thing that sets Sun Valley apart from other resorts is the general steepness of the runs and the constant pitch. Hardly any flat parts on runs. Great vid!
You’re definitely right bro! The runs are super long and definitely steep! It’s a massive leg burner of a resort! Top to bottom runs are dope!
4:37 Jackson hole has Corbett’s
Yup! Sure does haha
I think Sun Valley’s claim to fame could be that it’s the first winter resort in the U.S.
that certainly can be! i had no idea! thats super cool haha
Im surprised how uncrowded it was on the weekend.
Seriously! I guess that’s why people rave about sun valley? Not typically a lot of lines I guess!
