You're one of the few TouTubers who declutters based on grouping by color stories. I absolutely love this format! I like seeing similar color stories compared. Also, no shade to other RUclipsrs, since I guess they're doing what works for them. But have you noticed when they declutter after grouping by brand, they tend to keep the same color story over and over?
I actually think it’s a very smart idea. I’ve noticed I tend to trend towards buying similar color stories over and over so color comparison is now key to keeping my collection in check. I really liked seeing a declutter done this way- much more realistic than just tossing something because older without real thought.
Right?! I group and declutter palettes by how I use them. I have the old Oden’s Eye Solmane palette is in my purple section because of its one purple shade that I love. I love Nomad Cosmetics, too and because I use the greens in Okavango and Ghost Town, they are in my green section. Paradise Islands, Haunted Europe and Iceland are between my green and purple sections, as I use them for both. New Zealand Stargazing and Royal Europe are in my “Oh My Gosh” section for those incredible duochromes and shimmers.😮🎉😂
I definently think you should do a second declutter at the end of the year. Now that you have less, you'll be able to see which ones you're *still* not using and can let go of them. Also please give all the palettes you deculttered with green shades to me thank you kindly 😂
I was kind of shocked. I actually bought my copy fairly recently from a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s so much newer but I had been stalking it for a long time on her recommendation. Keeping it for a few key shimmers that I absolutely like- mostly the browns and greens as i don’t tend to like the Ocean side as much as I don’t like a lot of blues on myself. Anyway, end of an era. 💔

Just a tip if you ever do decide to depot plastic palettes: remove the sticker and use a lighter to gently burn the plastic, just enough to use a safety pin (or something small and sharp) to prick the shadow out :) I used to do this with my wet n wild palettes! Hope that helps 🤍
I feel you in the flower palettes. The shimmers are stunning but I rarely wore the Jungle Lights palette even though I loved it. I am tempted to repurchase it though. The purple pink shimmer looked fabulous with the Maevelous Mauves palette.
There have been several palettes that I've been intrigued by, but have ultimately passed on getting because I've realized that I have similar shades already. So grouping these by color story was brilliant! I currently have 17 palettes and am thinking about depotting some of my favorites shades and/or decluttering some by the end of the year. I've been keeping track of my usage for each eyeshadow to help make that process easier. I need to do a blush/bronzer declutter too as painful as that may end up being...
Sometimes even though the color comparisons between palettes aren’t exact in the swatches, but, on your eye, you can’t really tell that they are different. It is so hard to declutter. I like that your collection is a mix between indie and drugstore.
You did great, Sarah! 👏🏻👏🏻 ...Although this did remind me how badly I need to declutter my eyeshadows! 😩 Since I only have singles, it's not technically that many palettes (only 6), but there's still still quite a few shades that didn't work out for me, or I no longer use, and I desperately need to go through them. Why is it so hard?? They're things I'm not using, but it still feels torturous. lol 🤦🏻♀️
I love the style of looking at your collection by similar color stories!! That is how my brain works, too. When I'm looking at new palettes, I test them based on how many shades I already own, like if it's less than half, I'm fine with adding it to my collection. But if more than half are "dupable" tones, I pass. I want to fill my collection with unique color stories. For instance, I've recently been adding singles into my collection of the tones in palettes where I really just wanted them for 1-3 shades. It's so interesting how different we all are and I think you did great at really looking at what you use and don't use, like and dislike. You know yourself well enough to be mindful. And that really keeps me coming to your channel. 😊💚

I also bought some alter ego palettes recently from your recommendations (I used to buy all of their stuff YEARS ago, and then Bad Habit before then, iykyk) and I’ve fallen back in love again. Their eye primer is shockingly good too? I’m so picky with eye primers (NARS or bust, honestly) but this one might be just as good? I’m amazed.
Fantastic declutter! I’m considering repotting my flower beauty palettes into smaller pans for my singles collection. I think they’d get more use mixed in with some mattes than they do currently.
Related so much to what you said about certain colours giving you 'a black eye'. Whenever I wear blue and blend it, I look like absolute horror. Gave the shadows to my mom and she loves them. Goes to show, better to give it to someone else.
Listening to you talk about how you don’t like berries and greens together made me laugh because the very first palette I ever owned (and wore to death when I was 15-16 ish) was a Maybelline quad that was shades of berry/mauve and one olive green. 😂😂 When I used the green, I would use it as a liner-I loved that thing so much! I’m guessing we just have different colors that suit us, but it made me laugh and gave me a little bit of nostalgia lol.
I scored just about all the Aether beauty palettes when they were closing down for a song. Like $7,$12 each. I don’t know why I was so surprised by their beautiful quality. Best purchase I ever made.
I haven't seen the grouping by color stories method and would like to start implementing that! You did such a graceful declutter which was refreshing to see aside from others just getting rid of palettes because they're LE or can't be used in videos. 🙄
I have 64 palettes. It’s way too many but I have such a hard time getting rid of any! I do have at least one pan in all except 7 so having a pan makes me feel like I can’t give it away or anything
Norvina is so pretty and I always say I'm gonna use it and I don't so I gave it to my daughter. I calling cheating declutter. I mean I can use it but it's not in my case

You could do what I plan to do with my large Give Me Glow pans and depot them into smaller pans. I’m planning to get a mortar and pestle lol.

If you have any blue or maybe even purple left, try stamping and not blending, that really helps me with wearing blue mattes.
