Chemical Engineers are very versatile. They can do anything. They are great Problem Solvers, have a mind for processes and are usually avid learners. A Chemical Engineering degree is great grounding for many opportunities. I’m a Chemical Engineer by qualification- my passion now is teaching Public Speaking skills.
I really love this video. Actually, I was spending time thinking about What area I should start. So now I'll consider starting in whatever I want in fact it helps me a lot to familiarize myself with the chemical industry. It's my last year in university and start to work on energy projects as a researcher. Thank you so much from Peru, Shawm.
Your videos are really insightful, I’m hoping to study chemical engineering next year. I’m mainly interested in petrochemicals and their potential replacements, though I would like to work in any other chemical manufacturing industry.
Disclaimers: 1) Do your own research. I am by no means an expert. I have only worked in 3 different industries - the most reliable source is from someone who has actually worked in that industry. 2) There is no "best industry" - job openings are dependent on where you live, the economy, where you live, and what you are interested in. 3) Many job postings can be filled by various engineering disciplines. E.g. I was interviewed for a Controls and Automation role that was usually for Electrical Engineers but due to my experiences, I was seen as a good fit. I’d also like to start interviewing more chemical engineers on the channel, so if you’re an engineer with anywhere from 5+ years of experience in traditional or non traditional chemical engineering career paths please get in touch with me at shawnesquivel24@gmail.com
Thank you for the video! I am a final year Chemical Engineering student, and this video is really gonna influence my career as I move forward and I'm sure a lot of other people too. We appreciate! I suggest you pin 📌 the comment on disclaimers.
Please make a video on final year projects how we can select our fyp and what we can do in our bachelor degree what type of projects that we can work on them kindly make on it.
Skills in cranking out Videos and podcasts will be most useful for chemical companies, public utilities and the like. Having a degree in engineering makes you credible. Sincerly. Jakob Eriksen.
Great video! I am currently a first year ChemE student ( I hope I will survive!) and I'm expecting for more videos about our chosen field. Your videos helps me a lot to keep going despite of my setbacks. May I just ask, Is ChemE in demand in Canada? Or is there a high probability that Canada will accept foreign Engr. for work? I am hoping to work there soon, HOPING. Thank You!
@@shawn.builds Thanks man! Is it necessary to have an experience first right? Before working in foreign country like Canada? Thank You! have a great day ahead!
Very informative and motivating video. Currently studying my masters in Germany and the past few days I did some more research about the job opportunities. I plan to get into the oil and gas industry! Do you have any tips which tools I could learn to get prepared for my job entry? Im dealing with Aspen and want to learn python aswell. Thank you very much. You just got a new sub :D
aspen plus and python are great! tbh your best bet is to have internship/extracurricular experience, but if not, try to do some aspen/python projects related to oil and gas... i've never worked in oil and gas so i honestly have a limited perspective on this. if you join the discord channel, you'll also get to ask more ppl about this!
Hai. You can try to do more case studies involving steady state and dynamic simulation. For steady state, you can work on more case studies on separator, heat exchaners, gas dehydration, or gas compressor performance optimization using Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysis while for dynamic simulation, you can use Aspen as well and also if you have the license, use OLGA for flow assurance under dynamic conditions. Involves and familiarize your self in those softwares and case studies, and it will increase the chance to land job in oil and gas.
Really appreciated. Im doing bachelor of chemical engineering. Can you give a suggestion on how could I continue my journey after graduate. I could like to continue my career in pharmaceutical. Thank you for your sharing so far. Thank you
Hey shawn! I like to work in Canada if I become a chem. engineer someday. I hope we can be friends there. I want connection, at least i wont be alone in that country too... I'm a fellow Filipino. Please remember me I keep on supporting your channel.
Very informative video thanks! I have a question as you got the chance to work in three different industries.. what helped you into getting these jobs? Like did you take certificates from online and/or in person courses? If you have any tips to make a good resume tell us please😊
The first internship I got required almost no experience, I just talked about my school projects. The second and third internships I got based on that first work experience, as well as other school projects and design teams that I was a part of. The best resume tip I can give you is to take lots of internships, do research or join student teams because those are the things that really shine on a resume, not online courses or certificates
Can process/chemical engineers work as accountants? I just did course on process economics, evaluation of projects /proposal and their economic feasibility. If possible, can you provide some insight about type of industry. Thank you for the content you create, it is very helpful.
Nice vid! I’m just curious, as an asian chemical engineer, do you find it difficult to work in western country? (Considering the possible discriminations and competitive enviroment)
Great question! I have been in work places that weren’t always the most diverse but I’ve never been discriminated. I live in Canada which is a little more accepting of different cultures than our neighbour down south I think :)
But Process Engineers are the closest that you would get to a Chemical Engineer since it entails a lot of Mathematics and Physics knowledge and you apply it in the real world like eg. Paint manufacturing plant.

It’s region dependent but in Alberta/Ontario it’s pretty good. Also if you’re ok to live in more rural areas there will always be a job for you.
