I just got home from seeing my friends play in this play, and I just needed to hear this song again. It was a beautiful performance, and it'll live forever in my heart as the first play I saw some of my best friends in. This is my favorite song from it, by far
I see that the choreography starts very, very small and gets bigger - and the whole song crescendoes from start to finish. At first I wasn't sure about this - but actually it works really well and gives the song a building kind of pressure. I like it.
The Sky that was playing this one is playing him reallllly dark-ly.. It's interesting but it makes me feel like the character has actually got ill intentions so its sort of strange (like when he does the curvy movement with his hands for "broad"). This production definitely accentuates the MEN in the performance and the sort of dark style that really existed in that culture back then so it definitely is relevant--it was just sad to not see a Sky you want to support in this part of the show.
Yeah, I think the lighting on Rusty, Charlie, and Benny makes it really eerie. They are so fun in other parts of the musical, seeing them in the background looking so dark is really interesting. I like it though, it ups the stakes a little bit.
We live 40 mile south of Portland and we can only afford to go to Seattle once or twice a year, so we pick one or two plays at Fifth Avenue and build our trips around them. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED, and "Guys and Dolls" may have been the best yet. It had been maybe a decade since I saw it and I forgot what a GREAT SHOW it is. The cast, the orchestra, the direction at Fifth Avenue was fabulous. And the Amtrak trip was very pleasant, too! MAHALO NUI LOA, FIFTH AVENUE THEATER.
I did this play in middle school and it's honestly been difficult to find the specific version of the music we listened to. This performance is honestly one of the best that I feel really fits the intended tone, emotion and beat for my ears! I used to record snippets of this song on my old flip phone. Amazing RUclips find! Thank you for uploading this 💙 It'll be a favorite for a long time
Now that's how you sing a big showstopper like Luck Be a Lady. Marlon Brando's great and it's probably Broadway Blasphemy to say it but this is the kind of voice you want for this number.
In this performance Sky looks like if she ain’t a lady he’s gonna go home, have her make him a drink, and then ruthlessly beat her while he sips his whisky. One of the most terrifying portrayals I’ve ever seen. Congrats.
can we just stop talking about marlon brando, he may did some great acting but the singing was sooooo poor , this Video ist by far the best version i have heard till today ! :-)
I don't think anyone is going to disagree with you on that statement. They just probably can't stop talking about Brando because his singing was so poor and out of tune that you just can't forget it. His version is just stuck in their heads and pops up every time the read the song title alone.
Was reading “The Color of Magic “ and the third time the reader sees “the Lady” I realized it was Lady Luck, and I had to rewatch/listen to this song Hope it wasn’t a spoiler but she was just a supporting character.
This is AMAZING I’m in a show called a night at the Tonys and we are doing a part of guys and dolls and I play Sky Masterson but I’m sad we won’t do this
This guy looks like he's going to murder somebody, not take them to church. The guy who plays Sky at my school has such a smooth voice, like he's getting women to sleep with him.
Luke, Be a Jedi Tonight! Luke, Be a Jedi Tonight! Do it for Yoda, while we serve our guests a soda. Uh, and do it for Chewie, and the Ewoks, and all the other puppets ... Luke, be a Jedi tonight!
Hfrthhhu I'm pretty sure that it's Sky, he has more songs and although Nathan seems to be the driving force for the story it would more realistically be Sky
Nathan doesn't have a single solo in the entire show. He sings a little bit in Oldest Established, and he shares a duet with Adeliaide in Sue Me. But that's all he's got in the whole show. It's really bizarre.
They call you Lady Luck But there is room for doubt At times, you've had a very unlady-like way of running out You're on this date with me The Pickens have been lush And yet before this evening is over You might give me the brush You might forget your manners You might refuse to stay And so the best that I can do is pray Luck be a lady tonight Luck be a lady tonight Luck if you've ever been a lady to begin with, luck be a lady tonight
Ahhh the way the guy's dressed back in the early 20th century were class...without a doubt. braces Fedora hats even when this country was having some financial serious issues. ...the people then ?? still dressed in class especially after the crash and we some how rebound from a nasty fiscal era. Ok that said? let me ask where is Dick Tracy? ?? just kidding. I hope they bring Guys and Dolls to Albuquerque. ciao.
Wow, um, so... this song did not age very well. Don't get me wrong, I love it and have always loved it, but that doesn't mean I won't do a double take at some of the lines.

Absolutely stellar

Yeah Guys and Dolls, if one thinks about it enough, is actually a really dark show underneath it all.

Loving the costuming!

Maybe not Broadway blasphemy but blasphemous to the legions of Marlon Brando fans..
An excellent rendition !
Luke be a Jedi tonight.
Hahahahaha

great performance....we are doing this in my High School in San Diego and i think we are pretty good but i hope we can do something even close to this
this is so good and sky is cute in an intense sort of way.. im a fan

I got to see this on the "off broadway" show. It was so wonderful!

Nice voice 😉
We’re doing this musical (I’m Sky) and I always cry when I see videos like this because WHY ARE THE GAMBLERS NOT DANCING??????
This is AMAZING I’m in a show called a night at the Tonys and we are doing a part of guys and dolls and I play Sky Masterson but I’m sad we won’t do this

+Carry On He's impassioned. It keeps the energy level high.
Exactly, the guy playing Sky at my school sounds way different than this guy, in a good way.
Luke, Be a Jedi Tonight!
Luke, Be a Jedi Tonight!
Do it for Yoda, while we serve our guests a soda.
Uh, and do it for Chewie, and the Ewoks, and all the other puppets ...
Luke, be a Jedi tonight!
I know its Star Wars' but no
thefistofjuly The Simpsons reference
+Dick Butt Guys and Dolls, we're all a bunch of Guys And Dolls!
why does one of them look like penguin the batman villain?
Holy Grace Rusty Charlie
And then one is wearing Joker colors
im a little confused as to whether sky or Nathan is the male lead in this musical
Hfrthhhu I'm pretty sure that it's Sky, he has more songs and although Nathan seems to be the driving force for the story it would more realistically be Sky
Its Sky. Although Sky, Sara, Adelaide and Nathan are all considered main characters.

@@maninthetrenchcoat5603But also Nicely-Nicely leads the show's most iconic and (IMO) best song. There are so many big parts in this show.
this is actually good
They call you Lady Luck
But there is room for doubt
At times, you've had a very unlady-like way of running out
You're on this date with me
The Pickens have been lush
And yet before this evening is over
You might give me the brush
You might forget your manners
You might refuse to stay
And so the best that I can do is pray
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck if you've ever been a lady to begin with, luck be a lady tonight

Snake eyes, NOT Stink eyes! (at ~2:42)
Not the best, but still enjoyable. I love this song.

Why is obama in Guys and Dolls?
Charlie Sheen?
Wow, um, so... this song did not age very well. Don't get me wrong, I love it and have always loved it, but that doesn't mean I won't do a double take at some of the lines.
Same with “marry the man tonight”

The belting is way off. He's basically shouting
