@@TippedScales106 Oh I'm so sorry, I wasn't clear. King George III, husband of Queen Charlotte, is who ruled England during the American Revolution. This "young Charlotte and George" is taking place in 1761 and the first season of Bridgerton takes place in 1813. So same historical person in Bridgerton and Hamilton, not same actor :)

They did a great job of showing that Charlotte is by far the youngest main character we've had. Daphne was 19 in season 1, and Kate was 26 in season 2, whereas Charlotte is only 17. Her age is very clear in the way she approaches marriage and Queendom, though she matures really quickly throughout the season.

George doesn't really receive an official diagnosis but in modern times we would conclude he had some form of chronic mania or dementia. This is true even for the real King George III of the past.
He doesn't get dementia until much, much later and that's not what's being depicted on Queen Charlotte (it is on Bridgerton, though).
He's bipolar too

Porphyria is a group of liver disorders in which substances called porphyrins build up in the body, negatively affecting the skin or nervous system.The types that affect the nervous system are also known as acute porphyria, as symptoms are rapid in onset and short in duration. Symptoms of an attack include abdominal pain, chest pain, vomiting, confusion, constipation, fever, high blood pressure, and high heart rate. The attacks usually last for days to weeks. Complications may include paralysis, low blood sodium levels, and seizures. Attacks may be triggered by alcohol, smoking, hormonal changes, fasting, stress, or certain medications. If the skin is affected, blisters or itching may occur with sunlight exposure.
Corey and India did a FANTASTIC job portraying these characters! I kinda hope they do another season mainly bc I want them to do more together (and their press interviews are SO FUN to watch!)

I remember some of costumetube being snarky about bridgertons costumes a season or two ago and the fact that the Queen doesnt dress in regency. People were talking about what bad costuming that was and how the queen should be setting the trends. But turns out there is a whole story behind how the queen dresses 😭. Just wow. I feel like the trendsetter is Lady Danberry she is very ahead of things and so cunning. I agree so far this is probably the best season of Bridgerton.

I honestly think Queen Charlotte is a lot better than Bridgerton S 1&2. There is so much more to the story and behind the characters. I feel like the writing is better as well. I hope we get another season and maybe get to see the King and Queen with some of their children and see Violet meet Edmund.
a violet and edmund season would be iconic because we hear so much about their love for eachother.
@Yondit Yohannes this is actually top to bottom shonda and her team. she aparentally even wrote the script first and the the book was based off of it. she had much less hand in bridgerton.

I’ve watched it twice on Netflix but have watched certain RUclips clips from the finale (don’t want to spoil anything) an embarrassing number of times. This show has me in a chokehold 😭

At one point, during one of his more severe episodes of whatever he had, George proceeded to talk for 58 hours straight without stopping.
One of the reasons that he may have gone mad over was: 2 of their children, prince Octavian (4) and prince Alfred (2) both died from smallpox, in the same year (roughly 6 months apart). He was always a little crazy, but that probably sent him over the edge.
I think she still wears the Georgian style because of her husband’s memory, see how many deformed bunnies she has now

Yeah, he never had an actual diagnosis when he was living. But the most common hypothesis ppl have for what king George has is Bipolar 1. So he has mania with psychosis symptoms.
Because a bunch of his personal journals got released to for public access in 2013. Prior to 2013 people thought he may have had Porphyria which is a blood disorder that causes neurological symptoms and body pain and hallucinations and can outwardly look a lot like many different mental illness'. But it is a physical illness.
But yeah porphyria was the hypothesis prior to those 2013 released journals/diarys... And the actor has said that when he was preparing for this role he credited a book that he read that detailed the contents of those journals... So it's highly likely that the actor was attempting to portray bipolar 1 symptoms. He has said in interviews that while George was never diagnosed IRL..Corey, the actor, had a specific diagnosis in mind so that he could portray it respectfully and accurately.

Historians *believe* King George III could've suffered from bipolar disorder, but he had so many things wrong with him. He also often had seizures, and to restrain him, his servants would sit on him 😬

I watched youtuber who is therapist. He watched every episode of mental disability George had. Charlottle handle really well with her husband and are best way to handle when someone are this stage.

He definitely displays symptoms of Mania: decreased need for sleep, more talkative and disorganized thought patterns (flight of ideas), increase in goal directed activity illustrated through his fixation on gardening and the observatory. And of course it caused impairment in both social and occupational functioning.
The most modern belief is that he suffered from Bipolar Disorder. I have some wondering on this belief however because while we do see his manic episodes, we don’t see his depressive ones which are needed for a bipolar diagnosis.

Fun fact: the real queen Charlotte was very traditionalist and thats why she and her court used this style of clothing, the dresses the debutants wore were also different and matched the queen's taste, the dresses on the show are french debutant dresses, not British ones (sorry for the shitty English)

I love y'all's vibes and energy while it is chaotic it is also so addictive to watch. One of my fave reaction is you two making comments that would make Mr. Darcy feel objectified if he heard them. Not that those comments weren't a 1000% on point😤. If you haven't seen the Bollywood version 'Bride and Prejudice' I would really recommend it. The cast is gorgeous and the songs are fun. Hey guys. George III was a real figure known as the mad king so if you were to look up his illness you might be able to learn more.
I also wonder if George has some sort of dementia, but The Truth Doctor has been hesitant to diagnose him based soley on the show 😅
I mean it's because she's an ethical person. You can't diagnose someone based off of the symptoms that they display on the Internet or on a TV show because doctors can only diagnose someone when they've actually talkef to the individual for a decent amount of time. And get additional information and then they can propose a potential diagnosis. But because we're only kind of getting snippets of the potential symptoms he might be experiencing she doesn't want to definitively diagnosed him with anything. She has mentioned bipolar 1 which I believe is the disorder that the actor is attempting to portray, from what he has said in interviews. She also mentioned dissociation which is probably what he is experiencing at times and it's decently easy enough symptom to portray in shows and movies. But yeah, she's NEVER going to definitively give him a diagnosis because that's not an ethical thing for someone to do. And she's a practicing therapist. So it would only look bad for her if she did attempt to actually diagnose him.

Back in those days they knew nothing about mental health. So, since he acted this way, they figured he was just mad, hence the nickname "Mad King George." I won't tell you what modern doctors believe he had (OCD wasn't one of them) but I will give you a teeny tiny spoil: George didn't have dementia at this time but as he got much older he eventually did develop dementia. Tragic story because he was a brilliant man. I've watched a couple of documentaries on him and all these myths about him are just completely shattered. Sorry, I just love history. And I just finished this series up late last week. I really did like it. I love Lord Ledger's relationship with his daughter, Violet and how he sometimes calls her by the nickname "brains." Too cute! I was waiting for Lord Danbury to die and I thought it would be after he had sex, not during it! 😂😂😂 I hate to say it but I laughed at that part. I couldn't help it!!! I loved your ladies reactions!!!

03:02 That's how period dramas often dress "old people". Like Avery said-they dress them as if they were supposed to dress when they were younger. That's not entirely wrong, but history has proven that many older women, especially affluent ones who could afford expensive gowns, in the early 1800s really tried to keep up with current fashion styles. What's happening with period dramas is almost a cliché by now, and I hope they change it soon. I mean, I don't mind Bridgerton doing this because their costumes aren't meant to be historically accurate in the first place.
