Hi everyone, at 0:55 for the skirt panel 1 I say that the width of your rectangle should be your (waist measurement x 2) divided by 2, but it should just be your waist measurement! Sorry for the confusion! 😅 x
I was just speaking to my mom like a couple of hours ago how she wanted a tiered midi skirt, and then you dropped this tutorial!!! Thank you so much, I'm totally making her that skirt as soon as I get the perfect fabric!!!!! Simple projects like this are also good for intermediate and advanced sewists, something simple but rewarding is great to get your 'groove' back after a very labor intensive project or if you're stuck in a rut. Once again, thank you so much!!!
I have always wanted a tiered skirt, but since im plus size its very difficult to find them! so you best believe im making this!! thanks for the tutorial! 🥰🥰
The tiered skirt reminds me of the seventies. We all wore them with peasant tops and sandals and usually wore a bandana in our hair. Yours turned out so cute and with the blouse, it’s just perfect!! The dress is super cute as well!!! Fun to watch!!!
It would be cool to see your whole wardrobe, like how much is self made and what basic clothing pieces are essential for your wardrobe? Your t-shirt and turtleneck looks super cute too!
Thanks for sharing your tips! Maybe it’s worth mentioning that your tip for the top in woven fabric doesn’t work for bigger busts, you will have to use a jersey fabric in that case. But the idea of tracing garments that you already have is awsome! I do it a lot 😊 I usually do it on a piece of paper so I get a pattern that I can use over and over again. By the way, I love your little tune that plays in the background, so unusual and relaxing 😊
I was thinking the same thing about that top! I wonder if using a woven top that fits well as the guide would help with that issue. I want to try it lol!
@@planningtolive_thebestlife453 Yes that would work fine! I have even traced one with a bustdart even if that was a bit fiddely and took a lot of measuring to get it right.
I am actually a female not male as the name suggests. I used to work in a fashion house in Sydney in the 70's. We made these tiered skirts. I just used to call them gypsy skirts then. I worked in the design section and worked with some great designers. I just cut out the patterns and graded them, sometimes I was allowed to make some of the patterns. It is such a shame that young people now do not have this opportunity as these factories shut down many years ago as in Australia we made all our clothes, nothing imported. Great tutorial.
I used your original shirred puff sleeve dress video to make my own and wore it to a wedding last night. Everyone was so impressed and it was so fun (and so comfy)!
Thank you so much for making a beginner friendly video, I’m just starting out and was looking for the perfect project to begin with, the dress is 100% my style so I can’t wait to try and give it a go! 🥰❤️ You’re always such a big inspiration I’m super grateful!
Wow! that was an awesome video! I've always been afraid to make clothes using this technique for fear I'd mess up, but you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a helpful beginners video. I have actually gotten started because of your videos, so thank you! It would be so cool if you could do a little videos on using an over locker and any tips and tricks you have found make the process even easier. Thanks again for all your amazing videos :)
I'm so loving the longer video. That midi skirt is to die for girl, also that yellow micro floral top is so you!! Thank you so much for all the information. I hope all is well and cannot wait to see all the amazing things you will do this year.
I love these sewing projects that people can wear without needing a full sewing pattern! And they're so cute. Amazing options for absolute beginners. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi, I hope you had a great day! I had a busy day in my sewing room, playing with strings of fabric and now I get to watch you! I hope you have a beautiful week ahead. Thank you for posting this video, sharing your time and talent.
Janelle, thank you so much for this video, as a beginner it means alot. I really needed this. I was wondering if you could make more of these type of videos!
This was SO perfect and helpful, thank you so much! I want to hack a maxi dress pattern I own to have tiers…. And I’ve been wondering how to do shirring like that on a jumpsuit pattern….. excellent timing and instructions, thank you!
Oh wow 🤩 Janelle!!! I absolutely LOVE theses projects!!!! ♥️ Thank you 🙏🏻 SO MUCH for sharing with us !!! Honestly,I start sewing because I was and still am so inspired by you . If I never come across your insta and your RUclips channel,I would never thought of sewing at all . 🥺🥰
I just subscribed not too long ago and I've watched so many of your videos already. I just bought a sewing machine that came in the mail yesterday. It's like your reading my mind with this video! I can't wait to try this!
Thank u for sharing the pattern.. I looked out to this type of skirt for my niece. If I'll make it for her then I m sure she will be very happy.. Thank u once again 💗
I made a yellow tiered skirt from a second hand bedsheet and I wear it all the time. I used the hemmed sheet edge as the hem of the skirt because we all know hemming is not the fun part!!
Really enjoyed this video Janelle. Thank you for sharing these amazing projects. Can't wait to try the shirring. You are such a blessing to all. Keep up the good work. Xxx
Really clear instructions thanks everso much for sharing.. Wish I'd watched before i made the neck of my dress... Now i remember bias binding!!😊 Thankyou
I was waiting patiently for today's video lol. Omgosh, I didn't know that by holding one end of the fabric taut when using the bias binding maker, that the iron could just push it along lol.. so much easier than the way I've always done it.. hahaha. Thanks for showing that bit!!!
I just LOVE the tiered skirt Janelle! I already had a few metres of that brick red gingham from Spotlight, just waiting for the perfect project - thank you for the inspiration & instructions! My confidence has recently been knocked with some not-so-successful makes (which are currently in 'time out' waiting for me to come back with a clear head!) but you've inspired me to keep going. Thank you for always showing your sewing successes, as well as your problem-solving process when things don't quite go to plan. It's encouraging to see that these things can be overcome 😊 I think you might have answered this question in a previous video, but where is your gorgeous black & white polka dot dress from? 🙂
Definitely keep going! There’s nothing worse than a few sewing fails in a row, but if you push through and keep sewing anyway it’ll be so worth it! The dress is a thrift flip that I shared in this video: ruclips.net/video/z4h8J0Lk3p8/видео.html x
Love the way you explain everything and make it so easy to follow what you’re doing. I’d love to try my hands on making the skirt, but am currently pregnant. Do you think I could still use the same measurements because it is gathered or would you recommend adjusting anything? Thank you in advance! I’m always excited to see what you’re working on. Thanks for being such an inspiration! ❤️
Currently pregnant and struggling to find maternity clothes that I'll still be able to enjoy into postpartum and in the future. I'm excited to make a skirt I'll enjoy!
I’m pregnant too and making this skirt and I highly recommend shirred dresses during pregnancy and post-partum. They stretch with you and are so flattering and you can pull down to bf too!
Thanks, Janelle for the dimensions. I am going to make myself one and also my grand daughters!!! Maybe their moms will want one too? I have a suggestion. Could you please design a tunic 30” long with any sleeve length? I haven’t found any I like that are long enough. Chrissy🌻
Hallo aku dari Indonesia. Aku baru mau mulai jahit. Setelah aku melihat video kamu aku banyak belajar tentang jahit... Aku suka banget liat video kakak. Karena penjelasannya sangat mudah di mengerti 😍😍😍😍
What a great video! Thank you so much these are great ideas to make! 😍 I just have a question- does it make a difference if I cut the skirt panels on the grain or the cross-grain? Thank you in advance! 🙏
Super cute beginner's projects Janelle. I think when I get around to making the top, I'm going to add puffy sleeves with the ties along the bottom.. I never wear sleeveless hahaha.. I have dinner lady arms 😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣 I'm working on them lol
Question for anyone who’s made a skirt like this, I quite like the look of tiered skirts where the tiers are sewn wrong sided together instead of right sided together, but I don’t have a serger to finish those edged, I have a rolled hem foot, do y’all think that would look alright or would it be too bulky
About the skirt: Where do you stitch the gathered part of the fabric? It looks like you sewed above or on the first row of gathered stitches. Do you leave the other row of gathered stitched in the fabric? Does it show on the right side of the fabric? The shirt: The bias binding looks too wide on the back opening. Is there excess on the wrong side? Did you sew it down on the edge of the binding after folding it in ( away from the edge of the folded fabric) or did you sew close to the edge of the fold? Thanks for sharing your expereince.
Hi everyone, at 0:55 for the skirt panel 1 I say that the width of your rectangle should be your (waist measurement x 2) divided by 2, but it should just be your waist measurement! Sorry for the confusion! 😅 x
Given that it gathers around the elastic, are you sure you didn’t mean 2x the waist measurement?
@@slapperorange I think each panel has 2 pieces, so each of the top pieces is waist wide, making the full panel 2x waist width.
@@slapperorange as @silverene444 said, the first panel is made up of 2 rectangles which once sewn together make 2 times the waist measurement 😊
I was really really doubting my math skills 😂❤️
@@RoseryApparel 2:27, we see the two first panels on the table - each panel looks to be 2 x waist measurement, so 4 x waist in total?

I was so confused! Getting on now. 😁
I have always wanted a tiered skirt, but since im plus size its very difficult to find them! so you best believe im making this!! thanks for the tutorial! 🥰🥰
Same here, thank god for rosery apparel. Everything in shops is too small, and who wants to look like everyone else anyway
The tiered skirt reminds me of the seventies. We all wore them with peasant tops and sandals and usually wore a bandana in our hair. Yours turned out so cute and with the blouse, it’s just perfect!! The dress is super cute as well!!! Fun to watch!!!

My favorite skirt at your age was this skirt. Each tier was a different fabric, calicos and plaids, in brown and blue.

Thank you. You have inspired me to get back into sewing. I will make the tired skirt which I love.
Thank you!
I will totally make myself a tiered skirt this summer.
Almost done with my (also gingham) tiered midi skirt and I'm obsessed with it already!!
So 140cm, 210cm and 280cm in my case. That is just so much fabric!
Welcome to the world of gathers 🙈 Feel free to customise and go less if you like! The more fabric the more gathers

I used to find sewing patterns overwhelming when I first started sewing, so these self drafting projects where such a good stepping stone 😊
Thank you for another great video Janelle! It came out just when I was trying to decide what to make next.

Yay my favourite Sunday viewing! Lovely projects, and i adore the colours and fabric choices! Thank you!
Aw thanks lovely! That means a lot 🧡
I use my overlocker for gathering stitches, it both sews and gather at the same time! Gets really even! It is just a few easy machine settings.
I'm definitely giving the skirt a go...it looks fab.
Your video is so well done and helpful! Finally And finally see how a bodkin is used.
I finally understand pockets

This is a great video (for someone withvsome sewing knowledge) thanks ❤
Gorgeous skirt!
Going to Spotlight tomorrow to get some materials to make this beautiful skirt❤

double your waist measurements divided by two??? girl what
