Thanks For a shorter 4x experience you should give warpgate with the beyond expansion a try. Next to TI4 and Eclipse 2nd, Warpgate is our go to shorter 4x space game.
Yep, I went all in on this thinking I could play with 5+ in a short time, but there are a good amount of rules and it takes 2.5+ hours or so to play. I'd much rather play Warpgate or spend all day playing TI4 or Eclipse. It's not a bad game, I just bought into the 8 people can learn this and play it in under 2 hours promise that feels completely impossible.
I'm glad you touched on the technology deck piece of the game as it was by far my biggest gripe. Tech the varies greatly in strength and balance and the game gives you very little agency in the selection. The game overall is a good time but the technology selection is what keeps it from being a standout.
Nice summary, review, and nuanced perspective. This game is clearly not for me, and thanks to how you shared your experience with it, I can better understand that. Cheers!
Would love to hear your take on Voidfall. A massive euro 4x game.
I have it but the I’ve not been able to play it. Learning the rules is next to impossible at the moment. I’m short on time.
Have you played The Silver River? Wondering how this compares in terms of "faster" 4X games.
Not played it mate
The designer of silver River was run out of board games by the usual suspects on board game Twitter
Thanks

I picked up warpgate on the used market and love it. I've been keeping my eye out for the Beyond expansion but its not easy to get.

We enjoy "The Warp" as our "shorter 4x space game". Actions are not taken simultaneously but you can get involved in every player's turn.
I used to have an awesome board game buddy like this guy but, that was way back during prison stint.
Did you pick up the soap or was it him?
Good stuff sir! Love the content and hello from Indiana!
👍🏻
The designer is from the dice tower right?
Yes
Nice. Looks up mein strasse, this one. I'll have to investigate further.

Love your reviews. All I can think of is that Guy Ritchie has directed them 😂 or that you’re Vinnie Jones’ brother 😂 love it!
FMD that's exactly what I wrote when I shared this channel on FB!
Liked the mining rules but that's just 'cos I'm an 'Extractor' fan.
God I hope Roy watched this to improve 2nd edition.
Oh yay. Another space game.
@1:33 ‘gonna get a bag on ya head…’
Boom. Nice.
