  • This was sent into my day job with a complaint of dim, even with a new lamp. This projector was really dirty. Packed with dust and nicotine crud.
    It was/is used in a Golf simulator(not a bar) so it does get run pretty hard. Aside from the smoking damage, the green polarizer was shot. I was able to find a replacement for cheap enough, so after the replacement polarizer and a good cleaning, the projector was happy again.
    The test video at the end is / tankmastersenvironmental Check out their channel
    If you need a polarizer for your Panasonic, contact Time Electronics, Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com be sure to tell them I referred you.
    If you need an ET-LAV400 for your projector, use code YT50 for 5% off. www.purelandsu...
    Thanks for watching!

    "No offense, but getting this working is more important than good camera angles." -- No offense in that, at all! Totally agreed. Thanks for taking us along on these projects at all.
    The Canon footage is much sharper, and the color profile you have set is a cooler temperature, so personally I prefer the Canon. If you need a naturally warmer look, go for the phone.
    Fascinating job.

      Thanks man, I appreciate that info on the camera. Its hard for me to tell while filming so this makes it a lot easier to figure out. It seems that the canon wins on all fronts. Now I will spend the time working out the settings. Thanks again for watching!

    This is a proper projector. I currently have one PT-VZ575U in stock. picture a bit yellowish on mine. I suspect a burnt out polarizer but can't be bothered with it. Everytime I cleaned the polarizer there's a coating on it that once gets wiped away it is ruined. Even when putting a new one in adjustments is an absolute nightmare. For cleaning the lcd block I use a Datavac pro a vac cleaner which also works in reverse as an air duster for blowing the dust away. It is extremely powerful. The only problem with datavac is that speed is fixed, so I had to fit a speed controller on it.
    Canon seems better. Just a fraction out of focus. Good job again great outcome.

      I'm going to order a datavac. I use some no name mini shop vac. I have a ground wire setup in the hose to kill static but the datavac is way better.
      I appreciate the feedback on the camera. I agree, now I need to work out the settings a little better.

    I know I am crossing the line here but...... I love 3LCD units! Also, I love my DLPs..... Yeah, I need some serious and urgent medical assistance, I know, I know! Nice to see a proper unit saved and going strong. Never understood why people have to smoke like no tomorrow near electronics that use fans. Nice outcome Frank!

      No lines crossed at all! I have no problems with LCD when they work. My first 'real' projector was a Sanyo PLVZ4. I feel the same with Optoma's UHD series. They are great until they break. It's when they break or more to the point, when their 'economic' manufacturing methods come into play.
      Truly my favorite display tech is DiLA/SXRD.

    It seems that in LCD projectors the polarizers are the first part to breakdown, having so much crud inside didn't help matters though.

      Totally agree. I find it curious how Panasonic polarizers tend to last much longer than Epson. I have an Epson 2150 with all bad polarizers after just shy of 5 years.

    Hi Frank,
    your videos are great, I love them. Where do you buy the Polariser Plates ? I couldn't find them, sniff!

    I've made many mistakes trying to "clean" polarizers on Panasonic LCD projectors. Big mistake. Had that hazy look, ended up trashing the unit.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад +2

      I figured with the amount of nicotine "mud" it was worth a shot. I even tried some alcohol as a last ditch but it was done. I wonder if there is a way to clean them when there is something stuck to them rather than just dust? I still don't like working on LCD units. too delicate...

      @@FixitFrank At that point I think they are pretty much done last resort possibly put the whole optical block in the dishwasher no soap.. But it would have to sit in the sun for plenty of time you have time to dry. May sound crazy but may work I might try it in the near future as a last ditch effort.

      worth a shot for sure. Its not like it can be more broken.

    Hi Frank!
    I got hand on the VZ580 projector which was installed unprotected under the ceilling in the "not so clean" local music venue. It had same crud and dust inside as yours in the video.
    I compared it to a brand new one and it is much lower in brightness and it has yellow-ish streaks on the projected image.
    I have disassambled it and tried to clean polarizers with the cotton swab and now I can see gray streaks on it. Have I damaged them? What else should I check or clean and how?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 месяца назад

      Unfortunately you wrecked the polarizers by touching them. They can't be touched at all sadly. For what its worth, it sounds like they were already going bad(the yellow streaking). you just sort of finished them off. You need alll new polarizers or just scrap the unit. If its not 1080p I would not bother with it unless you can get the polarizers cheap.

    @fixitfrank i Have problem with the same projector well 2 to be exact. They will turn on everything.. but will not give me the normal blue screen with the Panasonic logo. it will turn on just white image. It will not show menu or if I sent signal it will not show any image. I check all the plug to the main board everything is plug in and good. any idea what can be the issue here....

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад

      That is a tough one. If you are only getting a white screen, then the LCD panels are not likely getting driven. That could be the LCD driver power supply, LCD control chip or even a main control chip issue. I don't think its anything simple but I am only going off your description. I could be wrong. If I had it here, I would be checking all the voltage regulators on the mainboard for proper voltage.

      LOL! It honestly threw me at first. Its been so long since I encountered nicotine in electronics. It used to be pretty much the norm back in the day.
