BushcraftMtl Axe There’s an awful lot of nonsense talked about Rhodesia, and the ideological and prejudice based reasons expressed in attempts to explain what happened.
Rhodesia was betrayed and ultimately destroyed because the leaders of the USA, UK and SA were working for Rockefeller.
If you look into the facts, Nixon and Kissinger were Rockefeller’s men. He sent uncle Heinrich to meet Mao in ‘72. That’s when the deal was agreed. Nixon did the public bit later.
The bush war in Rhodesia escalated in ‘73. By ‘78 it was obvious that elements were working behind the scenes to ensure Mugabe won. We exposed the CIA X station assets operating in Salisbury. Mugabe’s job was to destabilise SA, this gifting it to China.
I know Rhodesians who will to this day still attempt to claim it was Carter’s fault, or Andrew Young etc. They’re simplistic in their outlook. There are good reasons for this, but perhaps here is not the place to explain it.
The facts are that the CIA ran the end game, and SIS rigged the election with the frankly brilliant ZANU/PF campaign which marginalised Nkomo and handed Mugabe the win.
Operation Quartz and Operation Hectic (plus the other two ops that have never been publicly documented), would have changed a lot of things, not just in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. But that too is a story for another day.

12:58 looks like Max didn't have a problem with the violence until it was he in the hot seat. Also that guy(the Boss) looks like he was looking for a chance out of the operation but didn't dare say otherwise. i guess the communist's would've murdered him and known it.

They left or pretended to have been terrorists the whole time. Fortunately the terrorists want to keep the narrative that they were the good guys fighting against racism, so they pretend that virtually no black men where fighting for Rhodesia. Though many were found out and tortured to death.

I have listen to many of your stories about Rhodesia and now I understand that these war's in your country and many other Africa countries are about, and I may be a little slow but I always thought it was because of Blacks and white issues. Now I realise its about communism creeping in to Africa. Although I have travel in Tanzania , Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia on expeditions, and of cause nearly drawn into the Angolan war. Very interesting!
Well not really: without taking sides, the rebels wanted end of white domination, communists were the only ones supporting them. It was the case in Angola, Namibia and other places in Africa even SA for a time.
Tell me where was there a communist government after the end of those wars ?
During the bush war in Angola and the MPLA ruling, the Angolan offshore oil extraction was still operated by Americans, British and French oil firms. The West doesn't have a huge history of supporting emancipation mouvements...

Ann E what are your sources? It sounds like conspiracy theories without any substances. But I might be wrong. perhaps you know something I don’t? I would like to understand what the likes of these people/organisations had to do with communism ? I was a teenager at that time but not without some insight on the matter as I was born from an African mother and a European father. As far as I know, these people fought colonialism before being caught in a cold war situation.
@@jpm8782 I personally mostly know about the Rhodesian war, but have some familiarity with other African wars. Just to be clear, among the other things, what those monsters did to black elementary schools alone will always mean that I call them terrorists, no positive terms can be applied to these monsters.
Factually most of the west also supported the terrorists. For example if you were a Lutheran in the United States paying your tithe some of your money was being funnelled to help the terrorists, because like you said people think that these wars were about race, or colonialism. They were not. Most of the wars, and definitely the Rhodesian war, was started for Marxism, but once the generals got enough power it wasn't even about that, it became about pure greed, supported by the Marxist because they believed in the glorious revolution, and supported by the ' free world ' to ease their white guilt, and out of the racist belief that the color of the skin of the countries leadership not only mattered, but MUST be improved by changing it to black. Unfortunately this belief was also historically ignorant. These African nations were created on maps, not formed. A black man from one tribe did not see another black man from another tribe as a country man first, their culture and language were different. Only through English (Rhodesia) and their colonial past were they in any way linked. This is why Mugabe slaughtered over thirty thousand of the other major tribe in the first five years of his presidency, after he won the war, so that they could never be a threat. They didn't care about race or colonial power, they just wanted power. That is why they have made life so much worse for the average black person than it was under colonial rule.
The truth is, it wasn't even colonial rule at the time. The white Rhodesians saw themselves as Rhodesian and loved their country. They didn't see themselves as Englishmen in a foreign land. They wanted to see Rhodesia grow and become more prosperous, and they were making Rhodesia a better place for ALL Rhodesians to live. That is the next bit of history everyone forgets. Rhodesia was still a developing country, they didn't have the money and resources to give everyone a highschool education. They were still building a road network and developing an economic backbone. Had Rhodesia been allowed to develop without the outside world bank rolling a war that wasn't even organically supported by the native blacks I believe that we would have seen something much better. The whites really couldn't abuse the blacks even if they wanted to because they were horribly outnumbered with a world willing to support the blacks on racial lines alone. Meanwhile the blacks would have the security of knowing that while the white people are in charge the other tribe wasn't, and so the government could not be turned against them. Slowly, generation after generation, of being told that regardless of ethnicity you were ALL Rhodesian, as the country became wealthy enough to afford public universities, students would be able to study and work with Rhodesians of different ethnicities, Rhodesia would become a country filled by educated people who saw themselves, and their fellow Rhodesians, as Rhodesian first, capable of a functional democracy. Perhaps I am wrong, but it couldn't have been any worse. Illiterate people being bribed or forced to vote in certain directions has not proved an effective form of government.

The tribalism is, with corruption, one of the more important reason for the lack of development on this continent. I don't know was the situation was in Rhodesia but I have seen many other countries and really the ruling of whites on the black majority, whether is was by political or economic means, was going to end a day or another. it was inevitable. I do not believe communism had anything to do with any of the "emancipation" mouvements anywhere in Africa. One exception though : Ethiopia but that wasn't related to colonialism at all.

@@jpm8782 I don't know exactly what you mean, but it is a matter of fact that the communist powers provided vast amounts of material and training to the African wars. While it is more difficult to prove, every war I have seen started with a Marxist cell. So Communism had a lot to do with virtually all of the wars. The reality is also that these wars needed a mythology to justify themselves, and Communism offers a ready-made worker/poor vs rich mythology.

The often untold stories of the ZANLA, ZIPRA, and ANC cadres experience in their training camps are horrific!
I wish the true stories would get out and be published, but most of the surviving victims are justifiably too scared to talk.

He's talking around about a bit but it was probably SB or Special Branch, the CIA/FBI of Rhodesia.
trilithon108 Special Branch was like the USA’s FBI, but Rhodesia also had the CIO which was closer to the USA’s CIA, and the UK’s SS (MI5) or SIS (MI6). Internal Affairs also had some off book roles.
There were actually various turned terr units. One was called Spear of The People, lead by Ndabaningi Sithole.
For all you people who like these stories. Try and read Viscount Down. Fantastic read of the bush war. Book is very hard to find

Rhodesian military of all units I am so proud of you doing good even to the enemy when it was necessary and you did not kill civilians or child and this word of thanks is to our military African, European and all those who fought for our safety yet stuck to the law not killing for the sake of killing you were merciful and compassionate plus wounded enemy was choppered out to the best hospital and fill treatment and this spoke volumes to the people and turned them back to protect all who lived in Zimbabwe
Bless you Rhodesian guys and women for keeping these almost 'hidden' facts from the Truth side and to all of us in the World Wide Web.

Yup...a close look at his 'tales' reveal quite a considerable amount of bullshit. A disservice to all those who passed, and to those who were genuine soldiers.
He makes it clear that the details for this story were changed to protect Max's identity.
5RR...Recruitment by abduction was confined to outlying centres, such as Plumtree, Wankie. Anyone who knows that area west of Bulawayo also know of the two sets of farming brothers who would have made any city abduction, and a 90 kms trek to the border, a complete failure.
Abducted recruits were never 'flown' anywhere.
Binga is 50 kms along the southern shore of Lake Kariba. (10 kms across the lake to Zambia).
The only rail line crossing the Hunyani in this area is virtually in the centre of Sinoia itself. The Police station is barely one km down the drag from the railway bridge, and if they had tried to blow this bridge up the whole town would have been shut down with no buses or people going anywhere. And no police would have simply told Max to 'go sit over there'.
The only major rivers they would have crossed between Binga and Sinoia are the Sengwa, the Umi and the Sanyati, none which have ever had a train or rail line anywhere near them.
I notice in your other tales you constantly refer to your R1. This rifle was only issued to PATU and Police Reserve (farmers etc), not to troopies in the Rhodesia Regiments, or to the RLI (Rhodesias' Finest), who were issued with FNs.
You mention MAGs being set up on tripods (in ambush) when they already had a bipod on them? Each stick of four had an MAG...limited to four people so they could fit into the Alloettes. No MAG gunner ever carried a tripod and if they had tried. the chopper tech would have thrown it out.
The MAG used a continuous type belt of ammo, not the 'link' type you refer to (Images #2). (so that the belts could be reloaded after a contact).
The rear site that 'had been dislodged' on the MAG (Images #2), is in fact the weapons' carry handle.
5RR...I have no doubt you served, and while I could go on and on picking apart detail in your tales I acknowledge you are truly gifted in being able to relate these tales. No-one loved Rhodesia more than I, and no-one respected the Rhodesian Soldier more than I, but the war has been over for 40 years with neither side winning. I ask, are you telling these tales out of respect for the Rhodesian Soldier, or for the sake of nostalgia / fantasy. If it's out of respect, then fact matters. Using 'big ticket' allusions to the Scouts and RLI is almost disrespectful to the men who made up these fine units.

Anyway, you have gone to a lot of trouble delving into many details; common courtesy demands that I make some response at least. It's difficult to know where to start. With respect to Max, you have ended up in a quagmire of contradictions because you didn't take the hint during my closing remarks in the video. I said I had taken whatever steps I could to protect his identity. 40 years is not long enough for certain people to forget what they regard as treason. In his case you are right to say - let it go. That aside, the substance of what he told me is entirely plausible. Why do you say, for instance, no abductees were ever flown from Botswana to Zambia? There has been more than one account of this happening.
The R1 replaced the FN in 1976. Perhaps your experience of Rhodesian weaponry was prior to that, in which case your are excused. If you still hold to the idea that it was something handed out only to farmers and reservists, I can only tell you respectfully that you very much mistaken. You are mistaken too in putting PATU on a par with those whom you view as part-time cops. PATU were a front-line element of the bush war.
Very briefly on the MAG ...the very thought of someone trying to board a chopper with that weapon mounted on a tripod is ludicrous! What on earth led you to a conclusion like that? I only recall one instance in my videos where I have referred to an MAG tripod...and nowhere was there any suggestion of a helicopter. On that occasion, the CO had positioned a pair of MAG's on tripods unseen during daylight hours outside a village. He did this so that their arcs of fire could be controlled at night - thus preventing the gunner inadvertently shooting into the huts. I assume you know how these things are set up so I'm not going to explain it further. These two guns and their tripods were lugged there on the backs of two call-signs...what's with the chopper? Further to that, the ambush parties walked in much later after darkness. While we're still on the MAG ... please go and look at that image again. You know perfectly well where the rear sight is located - there, just above the last rivet from the butt on the top bar. Is it up or down? It's up, yes? Then what's the problem? Why are you directing me to the flipping carrying handle? Come on Bushley... are you trying to catch me out, or what?
I hope folk don't think I'm trying to cash in on the reputations of the Scouts or the RLI. I don't feel I need to. I had an opportunity to join the Scouts and declined. I honestly did not feel I would get through the selection course, and I was already tracking at that time so saw no reason to change regiments. (Like most people at the time, we thought the Scouts were a purely tracking unit.) I believe I can speak freely about the RLI. We formed part of the same brigade and a great many ex-RLI troopies found themselves in 5RR. I have only the highest praise for every one of them. You are going to find yourself hard-pressed to find any disrespect from me toward any Rhodesian servicemen.

Did his side butcher innocents, using "terror" as a tactic against civilians by, say, shooting down planes full of people and butchering women and children survivors for fun? Isnt that what makes a terrorist, not whether you agree with every stance of their government or not? Which side ran a country into the ground, indiscriminately torturing and murdering FAR more blacks, like Max, then the Rhodesians ever did? Which side was really "racist", one that limited the seats that africans could elect in government (but they still had em) and allowed them to elect their local representatives, or one that openly murdered and raped and stole lands away from whites to the point of essentially driving them all out of the country (alongside whatever black tribal group they happened to not like).
