Went out to the velodrome to train and there were 12 guys kitted up sitting around the infield of an empty track having a chin wag. Everyone was 'between efforts'.
Keirin is not so exciting to watch, but I would love to see an „Elemination” and/or „Point” race with GCN-presenters and maybe with some special guests. (More riders, more fun)
And Brother-in-Law Nigel as commentator. He's right you know; how vocal is Conor when there's an effort involved? (except when wearing a mask for his unbelievable 5,500m altitude effort)
This content is great - I've wanted to learn about track cycling events and rules and couldn't find introductory content online. I very much appreciate this series of track videos and their timing with the Olympic events is perfect! Thank you!
After watching the last two video, I understand that Conor and Alex were putting their life on the line when they were holding hands. There’s no brakes! Thank you guys for your dedication.
Honestly its a lot safer then a road race. No one diving for corners, no one slamming on the brakes out of panic. And if you do your exchanges well they're very smooth and quite nice.
Watching a Madison Race live at a pro Six-Day in 1991, in Stuttgart, was one of the most thrilling things I ever witnessed. Pure chaos, but so fun to watch.
I started track cycling before finding I loved endurance road much more. It's left me with some weird habits and this video was a nice trip down the memory lane. More track content please!
Fascinating series, its just not convincing me that a track is anywhere I want to be with a bike. That's ok. Thanks for the information, it is entertaining:)
Yes the WDQ has a great idea per a track Madison race betwixt GCN presenters. Of course, the Siborg has the advantage of HIVE technology and software. All will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. Loved the vid very informative. Wish we could watch your presenters cover the Olympic live.
Newport velodrome is where I had my biggest ever crash. Someone kicked a ball onto the track. It went straight under my wheels and I went over the bars at ~45kmph. I had a lot of friction burns…
I remember a race at Cologne Sporthalle: Girls from the audience were asked to do a fastest lap competition with folding bikes from the 70th. Some of these girls sadly fell…
my favorite music in this video: Arc De Soleil - Marappa . Ok, so what if you'd love to try track cycling but don't have access to a velodrome. How can you simulate a velodrome experience on the road? And I'd like to see an all out 10K sprint.
The cinematography and editing on display here. Perfect framing, focus, depth of field, B-roll, colour grading, the works. Hats off to the unsung heroes!
I think 'Giuseppe' (Alex) should race a track sprinter. I know from another video he peaks at 1,100watts; it'd be cool to see just what 2,600 (Hoy) does. It doesn't have to be Sir Chris Hoy, he's be retired far longer than Alex. There's a bunch of young Whipper Snappers who are over 2,000 watts. I mean we know they're fast but I'd love to see just how fast. You could even do it with a virtual track sprinter? Then Hank could go too!
It is said that the track at the Olympic Games maybe is the fastest in the world. Could you please explain what the differences between different tracks are.
Hand slings do happen in field sprints. The problem is as one rider is accelerated forward in the bunch, the other decelerates backward causing problems for the riders behind.
@@oldanslo Yes, even the regular lead out riders cause enough chaos as it is, without any hand slings, once they put in their maximal effort in the lead out train, and give up, and drift back quickly.
There used to be a Tandem Match Sprint event, and they used tandems (even triples!!) way way back when for the paced races, before dernys and such. There used to be a wild fast Motorpaced event on the track, using 'stayer' bikes behind big displacement motorbikes where the pacer actually stood upright in stirrups in order to give the rider maximal wind blocking slipstream effect. They rode HUGE gears, and were quite fast, but they went the way of the dinosaur for the World Championships in the early '90s. ☹
I've never looked up the current UCI rules for the Match Sprint, but I believe that they have severely limited the amount of time the riders are allowed to do a 'track stand' (which is what you describing, when they try to force their opponent into the lead). It WAS getting downright ridiculous in the 'old days', with the record being like over an hour or something?? (How are they not way too cramped and tightened up to even sprint at all, after that?!?!?) Lately, I have not seen any current top elite World Cup/Nations Cup/Olympic/Worlds Match Sprinters coming to a complete stop at all. They all seem to at least roll slowly, while watching each other intently for jumps/attacks, until the final windup starting at ~250 meters to go.
Why clipless have clips and how you can clip in clipless ????????? How it is called when you really do not have clips ? Cliped ? Can you clip in those ?

derny, never forgot the derny

Si and Dan on a velodrome. Let me put that on my calendar. I’m sure Hank still has nightmares when he tried the PFs on the track

I thought I knew a fair bit about track cycling before this! Chapeau, GCN, I've been schooled and I want some liquid chalk!
Check out Alex's quads. Those look like a great sprinter set.
Imagine a GCN Omnium race. With Manon, her boys and the other countries presenters like the Germans or the Frenchs
+1 For Si, Dan, Ollie and Hank on the track too
@5:30, I'm reminded of Shane Kelly during the 1km TT.🤕
I LOVE the Madison. It's like NASCAR on 2 wheels but so is a road race.
Really interesting to learn more about track cycling. Some sort of GCN competition on the track would be exiting to see. Thanks guys! 👍👏

I wonder how track riders get their feet out then? Especially considering they can't freewheel to undo the straps.
You either slip them out or be extra fancy and hold onto something while someone else undoes them.

hi gcn, can you use a small bike after you have grown up a size, by adjusting the stem ,the crank and a higher saddle ? #askgcntech
You can. But it’s not proper, because your torso and arm also grow in length, sometimes just ajusting stem and saddle is just not enough
