Thank you for the excellent video and great instruction! Have done several in the past, and my 2013 Elantra GT has got 210K miles on the original clutch without any problem. Time to change as its coming in higher that it should be. Seems that lining up the subframe when reinstalling might be a bit of a trick on jack stands. Have two floor jacks and a pallet jack on my tractor that may help. Have the transmission adapter for one of the floor jacks. Elantra has been a true gem, as until I recently replaced the headlights in 2024 due to sun damage, I've had < $100 in parts for this other than normal maintenance items. Nice job, and much appreciated.
I pretty much do a most of the mechanical stuff on all my cars & have been for many years. I never replaced a clutch yet & I probably could if I was dumb enough to even try & I'd probably screw it all up ! A 4 hour job done in 4 days filled with cursing , swearing & couple of nuts & bolts extra knowing they went somewhere scratching my head curious to know where & trying to convince myself thay were probably not all that important ! Needing a rebuilt clutch on my Elantra Touring 2012 will humbly accept defeat, bowing my head, taking that walk of shame & go pay the $400 to have it done & keep that 1 year guaranty that comes with the clutch assembly kit.
i understand what you are saying, it is not for everyone even the most mechanically inclined person and make mistakes and one should know their own limitations based on knowledge and experience. But as for the warranty, if a parts store is selling it to you, the warranty will still apply as long as it's in the time frame. unless the instructions say must be installed by a licensed automotive technician. warranties are there to say that this product will last "at least this long" now if there are special instructions for that warranty to be applied then that's another situation all together. Thanks for watching
Thank you for this video. I probably will be changing my clutch in next few weeks. My clutch doesn't slip at all but my release bearing sounds horrible and it sounds like something is going to break any day now. The first clutch broke under warranty just before 60,000 miles but not due to wear. Fortunately Hyundai fixed it so that didn't cost me anything other than not have my vehicle for few days. Today my 2015 Hyundai Elantra Sport 2.0L has 153,822 miles on it and 80% of those miles are all highway in top gear. I guess I should be happy that I got nearly 100,000 miles out of the replacement clutch. 😀 I usually get over 250,000 miles out of a clutch and that is on my last 2 trucks. This will be the first time I change a clutch on a front wheel drive car and I'm not looking forward to it but your video really let me know what I can expect. I don't have lift like your do at your shop so I'll be in my garage with my car lifted up on 4 jack stands but I will have enough clearance to remove the transmission. Again thanks for making this video and God bless you folks in Canada. 😀 Gene USA
Im glad that my video can help you, you will need roughly 2 feet of clearance in order to do this job with jack stands. I would suggest keeping the jack on the side where you are working for extra protection just incase the the jack stand lock lets go. also make sure you have the centering tool. thanks for watching.
Your video was so helpful. My hyundai transmission is about ready to go out and I'll be doing this in summer once I find a replacement. I'm not spending 2500 on a rebuild.
I have the exact same car 2012 Elantra and I need to change the clutch. I can do it by my self but since your garage is close to me I would like to do it with you. Let me know how much it’s could be. Great video!!!
Cheap people… doesn’t pay for the fly wheel…smh lol I got a brand new one doing mine today just finished most the disassembly thanks for this video. Guy at the shop said to use anti size and not lube in the clutch the silver paint on stuff…but my question is why does everyone use different stuff inside? What does the dealer suggest we use at Hyundai/Kia? Or what brand do you use?
When you buy a new clutch fork, they normally come with a white synthetic grease on the pivot point. The lube that I used was synthetic brake lube, with a high temperature rating. the extra point that I lubed were more for personal reasons/experience(high movement= high wear----steel bearing race on aluminum shaft). Whichever you choose just make sure it has good lubrification properties(that wont fail after 6 months, and that it has a high enough temperature rating. Thanks for watching.
Hello thank you so much for this video! It was virtually the only resource I needed to pull this off for my first time (Just finished) but something is wrong. It drives perfectly but when I depress the clutch there is like a whining noise of some kind.. It goes away completely when I go into first and release the clutch (or any gear for that matter) but if im in my driveway in neutral and press the clutch in it whines? Please help I don't know what I did wrong..
@@JLsAutoSolution I didn't do anything with the pilot bearing (I don't think) how do I center the release bearing? I aligned the clutch with the centering tool that came with the kit but the bearing I just threw on the fork.. Thank you very much for the reply! Greatly appreciate it!

My daughter has a Hyundai Veloster 2015. Transaxle went out and come to find out that the flywheel is bad. Bought a new Transaxle but we can't find a flywheel anywhere for a reasonable price. Found one in California and they want a $1000 for it. It's an automatic and have had nothing but problems since she got it.
And then engineers came with a brilliant idea : let's mount the engine and transmission on a subframe to reduce engine vibrations Result : higher purchase costs, higher repair costs, longer repair time. All this only so the driver doesn't feel a little bit of engine vibration
Typically there should be one.. Due to the engine support being overly stressed.. But in the past 12years with kia i have yet to see a support break. I dont let the engine drop either. I support it first the slowly lower it. The angle that is achieved is the same angle needed when using and engine support beam. So the amount of flex in the support is the same, just a little more weight.. This works for me when I'm on the go.. But a support should be used but not necessary for THIS ENGine.. Now a v6 on kia/ hyundai... A support is a must. Thanks for watching..
I followed your video and successfully changed the clutch kit. But know I have a ton of movement on the engine and it clacks when I hit any bump, brake, or accelerate. I've double checked everything and I'm going crazy. Here's the movement from underneath when I tap the brakes. ruclips.net/video/QXbWF7s4oNY/видео.html What's going on?

One thing the release cylinder has in these cars (Kia Fortes too) is a "clutch delay valve". It is a flow control valve that causes the clutch to re-engage at a slower speed to "reduce shock". It is a major annoyance for anyone who knows how to drive manual, it will also ride the clutch no matter how fast you come off the pedal. Thankfully they are removable (behind the banjo bolt on the release cylinder's hydraulic line), but very few know about the valve. I would imagine the valve leads to a lot of heat damage and premature wear on these cars. You can see it in this vid. ruclips.net/video/K9oJBZlwkcw/видео.html
We have people on forums complaining about the engine keeping the revs high for about 2 seconds when changing gears - without touching the gas pedal. Even on new 2023 models. Terrible choice of design

Is the alignment tool absolutely necessary for this particular install?
yes an alignment tool is required for this install

How many hours (book) is this repair? I had mechanic quote $700 labor only. Seems high or reasonable?
alldata says 5.3 so depends on what the door rate is.. plus parts so around 1200-1500
Mechanics in Australia would charge that price of $700 plus gst Somewhere between $125 - $140 per hour .
Hey, just curious about the steering shaft disconnect you mention. Where do you disconnect from exactly.
Thanks

look for a flex plate not a flywheel. Flywheels are used on manual transaxles and flex plates on automatics.

Yes this is for a manual transmission. just remember to use all needed safety equipment in order to safely perform this task.
What does it cost to do this job? Curios because I have the same issue right now and I’d rather not attempt it in my small garage lol
The cost is normally between 800-1200$(cad)
