I really don't understand people who only attack "good, experienced" artists, like, they will be so swamped with attaks they can't revenge most of em. I, personally mostly attack "beginner" artists because i know it will make them so incredibly happy, and they are FAR more Likely to actually revenge. I hope next year is more positive and less gatekeep-ey than this year
Honestly, I LOVE attacking artists who have little to no attacks! They are always so happy when someone attacks them, and almost always revenge! Honestly, I mostly do Artfight to make others happy by drawing for them, and getting attacks/revenges is just an extra bonus :) PS: Don’t know if I am just lucky but I actually didn’t know anything about toxicity on the site until I saw videos covering it on RUclips. I feel that a lot of the toxicity is coming from other social media platforms and not the site itself
I managed to avoid most of the toxicity this year and my main strategy is to just pick a genre/niche. I like dungeons and dragons and drawing fantasy characters, so I ordered my characters with d&d ones first and mainly attacked d&d related characters. That way you’re drawing something you actually like, and you’re also more likely to receive more revenges because your OCs are part of a niche the artist you’re attacking also likes.
I was actually a person who got into artfight from 2024, not by tiktok, but by friend reccs. I loved seeing artists I looked up to talk about it, and had actually known about it for about two years before joining. I wasn't actually on too much social media except for things like youtube and discord, where I mostly talked with a select few people. Due to this, I never really got onto the social media side of art fight. I only joined recently because I wanted to draw people's ocs, have fun, and maybe even hopefully, get at least one piece of my oc's. I went in with low expectations, because I was a beginner. Maybe intermediate, but not too good regardless. And so because of this, I had wanted to attack people with little attacks as much as I could. I complimented on every attack I got, and tried my best to get to all of them. I hadn't made a single mass attack, because I was afraid that the quality of my art would go down. Then, after art fight, i got into social media and was so shocked at the amount of people just.. yeah. I'm pretty afraid for next year, but as always, I'm just gonna try my best to have fun :)
Literally I just go through all my bookmarks to find who I haven't attacked yet from the previous years + I hop on the new and I do a eeny-meeny-miny-mo thing to select who I'll attack next.
This year was my first year on ArtFight and it went really well for me. Went on the site the other day and already saw a new user with “no bad art” in their character perms. This next year’ll be _reeeally_ fun…
I have been participating in Art Fight since all the way back in 2017, so this is my input as a 'veteran'. I started as a very beginner artist, and always felt very welcomed in the community--while my attacks did go ignored my many users, many MORE left supportive comments, revenged, and thanked me, which I will always be grateful for. A lot of these issues aren't new, and I experience many of them myself; I still don't receive tons of revenges/attacks, and sometimes people ignore when I attack them. This can really hurt my spirits, especially when I see other people drowning in them, so I absolutely get it. However, I do disagree a bit when it comes to mass attacks. As a genre they are not inherently lazy drawings with a bunch of characters crammed in to earn as many points as possible, even if that's the way some users have been utilizing them recently. I feel like a lot of the toxicity that has sprung up recently has been due to the scope of AF increasing, meaning the negative behaviors are getting more attention and becoming more normalized. One person saying 'dont attack me if your art is bad' will lead to more artists picking up the same mentality, or JOINING the fight with that mentality. The toxic behaviors both get reproduced by other individuals AND broadcasted across the web, and now suddenly a bunch of people view AF in a skewed lense, including the players. I haven't witnessed a lot of the toxicity because I don't engage with the people posting about it on other websites that much. Maybe I'm just lucky. What is really unfortunate is that this entitlement (ex. the "i won't revenge unless your art is good" or people only attacking experienced artists) goes against what Art Fight is supposed to be about. They seriously need to get their heads out of their asses. This might just be me, eut I actually avoid attacking super popular artists unless they have an oc I really want to draw. I think a lot of the negativity this year has really crushed peoples spirits, which is really sad. This is supposed to be FUN, not scary or unpleasant. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom though--what has made it fun for me is to, as corny as it sounds, treat others how I want to be treated. Leave enthusiastic comments on attacks you recieve! Try to revenge as many people as possible! Draw characters with few/no attacks! Attack small or beginner artists! Use the tag function! Another way to have fun is to focus on niches, like fandom ocs.
When I did artfight this year I kinda lost motivation but I got like 5 attacks and I revenged pretty much every single one. :) Next year I hope I get more attacks because my characters have very simple designs and would probably be easy to draw!!! And I will probably do a lot of revenging
It was my first year too and honestly i didn't know about all people acting entitled and stuff and the people not wanting beginner art until i saw youtube videos about thd subject. I was just trying to drawing others characters that i thought looked cool
Some advice for next year. Don't attack artists who say that they don't want beginner art or art that they think is "ugly". They don't deserve your attacks and it's better to attack none toxic artists as they will actually probably appreciate your art for them more than the toxic person
@@Gimmyruinslives yeah I was lucky to not get any negative responses to my art that was negative just sucks to here other people had bad experiences with making art for others
Super scared for next year aswell, 2025 will be my first year participating. I would've joined in 2024 but unfortunately I didn't have good drawing skills, I want everyone to be surprised when they see fanart of their oc 😭
Hay their I been playing for af 6 to 7 years now. The whole entire exclusion new young artist “I will only tag popular people and I will only attack “”good artist”” “ all the other issues in the vid that nothing new like at all people like that have been around on the website forever and it’s just because it’s social media like TikTok that people can put that nasty behavior on blast. honestly my best advice to ignore annoying people that surface every year (block and report if they doing anything bad). But also just to find your own little group of friends to play art fight to play with and just play for yourself and your own enjoyment and not care about anything else. something that I would tell myself in years I didn’t really get any artwork at all is that if it’s not fun I don’t have to play it but I still found it fun because ART fight really has helped me expand my skills because of crunch time in a massive amount of effort I do. At least that’s my two cents on the issue. ^^
2024 was my first year on artfight. It sucks that this is happening. I am grateful for the few attacks ive recieved(one of them made a headshot of one of my most beloved characters and it made me cry and gush about it) and i try to comment nothing but postive love and appreciation for the gift of their art. Hopefully next year will be better even if i dont get attacked. Im just here to draw a few pieces of art for others :]
I also feel like part of the problem is the negative attitude a lot of people have that "so and so social media ruined art fight" or that it suddenly became way more toxic due to the increase of new people participating. Most of the discussion about artfight this year has been those same talking points, which means that people are giving toxic behaviours more attention (And I bet a lot more ragebait was made to stir up drama too). Idk maybe me staying in the splatoon niche with a lot of my mutuals for my first year meant that I didn't have the horrible experience that a lot of people made af 2024 out to be 💀
I wasnt able to attack many people this year due to art block, but i thanked everyone who attacked me and revenged a beginner artist with the best i could do
I feel like I got really lucky in terms of this year’s art fight. I ended off with nearly an exact 50-50 ratio, I remember I was struggling early on to keep that ratio up because I was just getting jumped, not to mention all but one of the people I attacked gave me a thanks, and a lot of them got their revenge as well. I think part of the reason I got as many attacks/revenges/comments as I did was because I primarily attacked people I just found randomly through searching tags or just checking the profiles of people who followed me. (The fact my characters were easy to draw probably helped) One thing I will say is I’m really not with you on the ‘avoid mass attacks’ point. Not everyone who makes mass attacks is point farming, I was part of two mass attacks this year, and I absolutely loved both of them, especially the second one, which was this really cool beach scene featuring a bunch of cat-characters. Some people make mass attacks for the fun of including a bunch of different characters interacting each other in a cool scene, they don’t deserve to get lumped in with people who just do it for point farming.
^ I did a mass attack this year (though it was mostly directed toward people I had interacted with prior to artfight, and it was only 6 characters) and they're fun! They're not even normally for point farming I think a lot of people just like drawing big groups of ocs together
I feel like with the way TikTok and social media work nowadays Artfight this year was yet another “trend”, it was something new for many people and next year they are either not gonna participate or participate for the first week or so and then not. I’ve been participating in Artfight since 2022 and trust me, the website has gone through way more drama just a year ago than this year. Don’t let people on social media affect your view of a certain thing you could have enjoyed :>
I didn't even know aout all the drama, I only got 3 revenges but every attack I did got a thanks, I also made sure to go only after people with 0-3 attacks at most towards the second half of the event I also treated every character drawing as a sort of "draw in your style" challenge so I didn't care too much about how a character looked, of course I tried to sort of bend my little knowledge into the character but still, I'm sad that I got kind of burnt out since I was spending a day or two with mostly full body drawings or at least half body I'll be sure to get that template thing everyone had, no idea that was a thing until like halfway though and only had 1 character as I was drawig a few more in the middle of the even, to be fair I only knew about it a week before it happened lol, I'll be a little more ready next year so I'm actually looking forward to it, hopefully it won't be as bad but with tiktok getting a hold of it, oh boy.
3:00 i got an attack like that.. i was greatful for every attack i got! but when i looked at it and zoomed into my character it was.. incredibly obvious they just traced my reference sheet😭
My only negative experience from this year, is someone drew my OC wrong, broke the very first rule and argues with me that is their art style and is incapable to change just one line to be less curved 😒 Then again I guess understandable cus I reported their attack and got taken down. Their ego got shattered so hard. They force me to accept it without edits at first lmao.. Of course I won't accept it since the art made me uncomfortable and them acting that way at first is really bad vibes.
This was my first year on artfight, I knew about it last year but remembered it again this year and decided to join because of tumblr. One of the things I made sure I did was attack people with little to no attacks (though i did still attack ppl with more attacks since i liked the ocs). Attacking people with less attacks, or even none, is one of my favourite things to do on the site, because I know how happy it makes them. (also they are more likely to attack back which is a cool bonus). Personally I didn't see any of the issues I see so many people talking about, I just know that tik toks being bad about it. I never saw any of the toxicity that this video and so many other videos are talking about. I don't know if that just means I was lucky or if its way less of a problem than people are making it out to be. It feels like more of a problem happening outside of art fight, but I joined halfway through the month so maybe it was happening more early on?
I haven't had a bad experience in artfight before ,so hearing a sudden surge of bad apples was a surprise! i make sure to revenge all attacks (i have a snails pace though bc burnout) ive only seen the point bot spam once/first time this year and it got taken down quick (where they post a shitty unrelated doodle and tag a bunch of ocs/set it to highest point category) im worried for it's come back next year
Ill be honest I just try to ignore all the toxicity, have as much fun as I can and attack characters with fun designs Already excited for next year, itll be my fourth!! Thats crazy honestly. Ive lost every single year too so at this point I am obligated to continue my losing streak
Wow you joined this year as well :0? So did I! Well actually I made my account last year but I actually made characters and attacks this year ^^ I'm so glad to see other new artfight participants, it makes me feel less lonely. Tbh I've had a wonderful experience with artfight. I hope some other people on this video can say the same. Sad to see tiktok ruining the purpose of the silly art game, but this may just be a small phase in the community, then before you know it it'll be gone! (Sorry if I'm too optimistic) I think artfight is a good way to be able to show your favorite artists you look up to them (I was so happy when I saw comments from my fav artists calling my art good), practice your skills, and make new friends. It also helps get rid of artblock!! This is just a small bump in the road and people will realize these things about artfight.
I was pretty confused on why I was only getting group attacks, didn’t know all this was going on! Still adored any art people included my ocs in though, obviously! :3 I didn’t participate this year but I’m gonna try next year. Been a part of artfight since 2020 and loved the community
I've been doing art fight for 7 years (holy moly). I do have to admit, the atmosphere has changed a lot over the years. While I haven't personally experienced the negatives of what people have been talking about this year, I *have* seen it happen to other people, including my own friends. People will ignore rules about certain characters in order to slap them into mass attacks, and much more. I feel like back then, people generally didn't care about an artist's skill level. I know I don't! I genuinely love art of all levels, and I 110% support beginner artists. There's just that special honor that someone out there decided to draw my character, no matter what. As a slow artist, I can only manage to finish around 4-5 attacks before the event ends. That means I can't revenge everyone. In the early days, this gave me HUGE anxiety. But as years went on, I became more comfortable. It's a little sad knowing that kind of anxiety is slowly coming back with the new wave of people expecting you to revenge them if they attack you. Aside from this, since I can't attack everyone, I ALWAYS leave a comment on every piece of art I get. If I can't attack back, I know how how much a simple comment means to anyone. And again, I'm always super honored that someone has taken the time to draw one of my characters! I know Art Fight is trying to make an effort to combat different problems that arise, but I still hope things turn out well in the end. It would be very sad to see this site go downhill.
The reason I didn’t join in 2023 was because I was still trying to practice my art first. So I joined in 2024 because of my experience. It’s a good thing I didn’t stumble on the toxicity!
I've never participated in AF, I wanted to back in 2022, but now I'm unsure. I've always been unsure, but as a person who hates stress, I don't know if I'd be able to handle it tbh.
im a beginner artist, and i got 7 attacks, and only one of the people i attacked didnt thank me. but then again i draw fandom ocs and characters aus of the same fandom so all my followers are from said fandom and draw my au characters since they're still drawing a character they like! trust me join fandoms and find ocs or aus from the fandom (the fandom in question is omori lol, my af is amelily)
wait are mass attacks bad? cause one of the like 1 or 2 attacks i (1st year) was of a group drawing and i was do excited to even have my character be drawn as a little gingerbread cookie 😭
artfight 2024 was my first year on the website, and i got a whopping 19 attacks with 1 mass attack. i only managed to get out 7 attacks myself, 2 of which being revenges. im not a very popular artist by any means, my only reach being on twitter and discord, however it was a great learning experience for me and i strive to join again next year!! i am a little worried for the possible ragebait though :(
2 months late but my bestfriend is social media free. He had a 100% attack ratio for a bit till I posted about her online in the hopes some people will see her acc and attack him back. This year was more about clout size and skill than celebrating original characters and the fun in art. It’s kind of demotivating to see, hoping to see it get a bit better next year
I personally just wouldn't want to attack someone who doesn't want to be attacked by beginners because it shows that they don't value what is, in my opinion, a very important part of art fight, showing people that you admire their OCs. They would be better off buying commissions. Besides, why would I put effort into something when it's very clear they probably wouldn't care?
I couldn’t do much this year because of my broken apple pen (😀..) and that I had a bunch of stuff in July, but I was glad people liked my characters :) and I was sad when I couldn’t revenge them back, but I’m glad I missed this toxicity this year, really hope next year will be better :’D
I didn't actually do artfight this year bc I was doing stuff and spending time with my family all july :/ I've never actually did artfight but am a bit nervous if I do it next year
It was my first artfight this year, I feel bad not revenging people but most of the people didn’t have characters I felt confident drawing. I hope artfight isn’t bad for me next year because it was really fun and I do want to do it again.
I feel like in a few years time. Art fight is going to be only allowing 18+ instead of 13+ because of all the adult content that might be happening in the years to come. That's my opinion, please tell me if I'm wrong
I don’t think this will happen at all, they’ve always been very strict about censorship of mature content and NO explicit NSFW. They do very well as an event for all ages, why would they ever swerve to becoming 18+ 🤨😔
I guess i dont go on the social media part of artfight very much 2024 was my 3rd year of artfight and i didnt even notase a difference form the other years
Not sure if i will do art fight next year. This was my second year. I didn't get many attacks so it degrading. Either way, i pushed myself to draw as much as i can, even if i didn't get some thanks.
This is was my first year and i didn't get any attack except for one from a beginner artist, i was a bit sad at first but then i thought that if i did this only to get free art I'd just keep the chain of negativity going around ^^
This year had been my first year, and honestly I don't think that I was on the tictok side of things most people I attacked gave thank yous, and I'd try to revenge anyone who attacked me :3 I believe that I had such a good time with it because I went in thinking it was a gifting game not trading :3
Idk if u can put descriptions on your account in artfight but if there is I’m gonna put ‘beginners pls interact’ because I’m guessing a ton of ppl put starters dni on their descs
This is why i didnt join, it sounded cool but seeing how people have gotten more rude the past few years i didnt want to put in so much effort for nothing but crickets and roaches (also, happy birthday)
Literally nothing was happening, all this rants of af this year where from some videos of social media, but if you just draw and avoid obvious toxicity like a profile saying "no ugly art" then it's literally ok, people really be making a small problem way to big, there is drama, but not nearly as much as youtube and tiktok are making it out to be

I'll be sure to get that template thing everyone had, no idea that was a thing until like halfway though and only had 1 character as I was drawig a few more in the middle of the even, to be fair I only knew about it a week before it happened lol, I'll be a little more ready next year so I'm actually looking forward to it, hopefully it won't be as bad but with tiktok getting a hold of it, oh boy.
Man, I was gonna participate in artfight 2024 after knowing about it for years. i hope things will get better :(
This was my first year on artfight, I knew about it last year but remembered it again this year and decided to join because of tumblr.
I haven't had a bad experience in artfight before ,so hearing a sudden surge of bad apples was a surprise! i make sure to revenge all attacks (i have a snails pace though bc burnout) ive only seen the point bot spam once/first time this year and it got taken down quick (where they post a shitty unrelated doodle and tag a bunch of ocs/set it to highest point category) im worried for it's come back next year
Ill be honest I just try to ignore all the toxicity, have as much fun as I can and attack characters with fun designs
Already excited for next year, itll be my fourth!!
(Sorry if I'm too optimistic)
I think artfight is a good way to be able to show your favorite artists you look up to them (I was so happy when I saw comments from my fav artists calling my art good), practice your skills, and make new friends.
I've always been unsure, but as a person who hates stress, I don't know if I'd be able to handle it tbh.
im a beginner artist, and i got 7 attacks, and only one of the people i attacked didnt thank me. but then again i draw fandom ocs and characters aus of the same fandom so all my followers are from said fandom and draw my au characters since they're still drawing a character they like! trust me join fandoms and find ocs or aus from the fandom (the fandom in question is omori lol, my af is amelily)
wait are mass attacks bad? cause one of the like 1 or 2 attacks i (1st year) was of a group drawing and i was do excited to even have my character be drawn as a little gingerbread cookie 😭
artfight 2024 was my first year on the website, and i got a whopping 19 attacks with 1 mass attack. i only managed to get out 7 attacks myself, 2 of which being revenges.
im not a very popular artist by any means, my only reach being on twitter and discord, however it was a great learning experience for me and i strive to join again next year!! i am a little worried for the possible ragebait though :(
Oh no! I hope this doesn’t happen to me I joined art fight for the first time this year and it went well but now I’m a little worried for next time 😅
2 months late but my bestfriend is social media free. He had a 100% attack ratio for a bit till I posted about her online in the hopes some people will see her acc and attack him back. This year was more about clout size and skill than celebrating original characters and the fun in art. It’s kind of demotivating to see, hoping to see it get a bit better next year
I wanna join art fight even though it's going down hill
I didn't actually do artfight this year bc I was doing stuff and spending time with my family all july :/
I've never actually did artfight but am a bit nervous if I do it next year
i was so new i didnt know how to comment 😭 i feel so bad now
It was my first artfight this year, I feel bad not revenging people but most of the people didn’t have characters I felt confident drawing.
@@lozzy9569 idk it was just a stupid speculation
@@Gimmyruinslives Ey well, don’t worry so much X’D
they ove censoring everything so probably not. will probably make the site less entitled and filled with tiktok babies, though.
Happy birthday I'm late
So I want to participate next year for the first time ever aaand I doubt I’ll get anyone interacting with me.
I personally didnt see any toxic artists everyone was very nice.
This year had been my first year, and honestly I don't think that I was on the tictok side of things most people I attacked gave thank yous, and I'd try to revenge anyone who attacked me :3 I believe that I had such a good time with it because I went in thinking it was a gifting game not trading :3
wanted to join artfight but decided against it -due to being a traditional artist- lowkey glad i did not, only heard negative things so far : (
I'm a traditional artist and I've seen others on their too u should join dont let anything stop you I did traditional on their
Idk if u can put descriptions on your account in artfight but if there is I’m gonna put ‘beginners pls interact’ because I’m guessing a ton of ppl put starters dni on their descs
You can
Also DNIs are banned on artfight for b that exact reason
i only attack my friends when i do artfight
This is why i didnt join, it sounded cool but seeing how people have gotten more rude the past few years i didnt want to put in so much effort for nothing but crickets and roaches (also, happy birthday)
Literally nothing was happening, all this rants of af this year where from some videos of social media, but if you just draw and avoid obvious toxicity like a profile saying "no ugly art" then it's literally ok, people really be making a small problem way to big, there is drama, but not nearly as much as youtube and tiktok are making it out to be
chat should i join art fight next year
It’s your choice lol
Btw discord invite is invalid in case you are using an old one
Artfight seems like absolute dog shit, I stick to normal art trades.
