It's not just because he's an older man or the original singer. When you watch other videos of him singing, whether he's young or old, you can truly feel the depth of emotions in his performance.

This version is so gut-wrenching! The first few times I viewed this, I was a sobbing puddle of tears! This is not like his original recording in 1989. Check out that original version, as it's more "mainstream/poppy" sad song. This version in his later years is so much more; direct from his soul!! 🎶♥️🎶♥️

I watched some old japanese series, what I realise is the old series and the songs are full of emotion, deep. So recently I found this song, it has the same deep feeling like the musics and story from old japanese series. When we listened to old music from diff countries, we feel that too. Seriously I think we dont do similar art anymore.

The difference between Dimash’s version and Koji’s version is the difference between sadness and pain. Dimash’s technical genius is unrivaled but his emotions seem manufactured. I enjoy watching reactions to Dimash’s more than listening to him sing. Koji’s emotions, on the other hand, are genuine and deeply moving. Peace

This man is a legend in Japan. The thing about Japanese singers is they put their heart and soul into their musicianship. I haven’t heard Dimash do this song but I’ll take Koji’s version, the original voice, any day. I’m not really fond of covers because a lot of people forget the original artist and give credit to the ones who cover.
This song has beautiful lyrics and music. It’s a classic.
I get tears in my eyes each time I hear him sing this song. ❤

In the video, Mr. Tamaki says that he is singing this song for Hong Kong.
For Hong Kong in perhaps 2015, or 2016...
Since then, the Chinese government has suppressed the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement.
Some of the Symphony's members may have fled Hong Kong.
I think that this may be why this performance in Hong Kong is especially heartbreaking

Without detracting from Dimash’s performance of this composition, these two talents perform it beautifully in different ways. Dimash's performance conveys youthful love suffering. At the same time, Koji Tamaki with his performance represents the feelings of a mature, I would say, seasoned man. but both performances equally stir the heartfelt emotions.

On December 9 2021, Goro Matsui gave a short interview to the DJFC Japanese fan club, where he shared in more detail what got him caught up in Dimash’s performance of the legendary composition.
Goro Matsui wrote “Ikanaide” together with Koji Tamaki in 1989. The poet shared that at the time, Tamaki rarely sang the song at his concerts. It took a long time before the singer started performing it on stage again.
“This song is very difficult to comprehend like this even for the original singer/composer. I believe to be able to sing this song, you need to have “the time” which is many life experiences to fully express the song's lyrics, not just with singing ability.”
“I happened to find Dimash singing “ikanaide” by chance. The first thing that surprised me was his crystal clear tone and his expressive voice that conveys the lyrics of the song. I’ve heard other Asian singers sing “Ikanaide” in their native languages several times. However, even though they all sing great, none of them seemed to quite capture the sound/reverberation and meaning of the original lyrics/words, and perceive the emotions between the lines. In this song, the phrase ~ Ah, ikanaide~ is repeated several times in the chorus. Although they are the same exact words, each line has a different meaning. I feel that Dimash seems to know it.”

It's been ten years since girlfriend died of cancer.
but, I can't stop crying when I hear this...
    i ka na i de
Do not go away.
Please don't die, don't leave me alone.
    This is double meaning.(日本人にはそう聞けちゃう)
At that time, I was in a remote area, so I went to the palliative ward where she is housed every weekend.
At first, she was able to take a walk in the hospital, but every time I met her, she became emaciated.
On the Tohoku highway on my way home, I couldn't stop crying and hit the steering wheel...
    "Why is she?"
No matter how much I cried and shouted, she would never come back.
Mr. Tamaki's songs and the way he sings them vividly remind me of how I felt at that time.
