Couldn't agree more with the methods you have am a single dad my son has talipes however he finds the boots and bar a sense of security and I find routine is key ..now been 2 I found a bigger bed helps with sleeping
Tip from my parents' personal experience putting these on me: put the boots on when the child is awake, then put the bar in when they are asleep. Otherwise you have basically given your child a weapon they can kick into your face if the bar is only on one foot and they kick out.
I put (nipple covers ) on the tongue of the boot to help push the heel back and so the strap doesn’t mark my baby girl foot and it’s the best with circulation also I feel like just the tongue it self cuts it and the silicone helps a lot :)
Have you always liked the ponseti static bar? I feel like my child is so upset he can't move his feet like the ponseti move bar or dobbs bar. Any thoughts?!
Thank you for the video. We put our sons bnb on for the first time this morning. Rough start. He hates them. Hes almost 3 months old. Video was helpful. Our insurance does not cover the bnb so we had to pay out of pocket. $900. How many pars of boots has he went through? We are trying to set back the money so we can buy them as needed. Just not site how many par or how often. Obviously as he grows but I was curious if he stayed in the same pair weeks or months at a time.
Derek Barbee hi, glad this was helpful! And that is not OK that insurance won’t cover your BNB, is it because you’re using a different brand than what the doctor prescribed? Have you asked your clinic about it? Perhaps they’re coding it differently for some reason? BNB should absolutely be covered, it is medically necessary for clubfoot children, that’s ridiculous! Something is not right if your insurance is refusing payment for BNB. Anyway to answer your question: we went through a lot of sizes in the early months, nowadays we change sizes maybe every six months. Earlier on it was every couple of months, maybe every three? The issue is if you size up to give them room to grow into them so you don’t have to buy so many they may not fit properly and their feet will slip out of them or they’ll have issues with blisters, etc. If you still can’t get your insurance to cover them, there is a Facebook group called clubfoot exchange I think and they take donations of used boots and ship them to families who need them. Also our Shriners hospital has a program to pay for our boots, they charge our insurance whatever they do cover and they don’t charge us what we would pay after insurance, essentially. A few options to consider!
Hi Lydia, i'm from Argentina. Thank you so much for the video. I have a question: we received our baby's first BNB today (we were using different ones) and they feel like a little hard to put on at first. The size is right, but is it possible that the get softer with the usage? Thank you so much again! Have a great day and stay safe!
Hi! If they're made of leather then yes, they definitely soften up with time and wear -- I've heard of some people who put them through the wash to soften them up but I've never felt the need to do that, they soften up pretty quickly on their own :) They always feel stiff at first when they're brand new.
Hi my granddaughter has a slight club foot. She is not wearing her brace and she had kicked it off a couple of times in bed and she’s only seven months old so I don’t know how to able to keep it on tight enough without hurting her?
Hi Atif, look into Miracle Feet, this organization is trying to get all clubfoot kids the care they need -- they may have a clinic near you www.miraclefeet.org/#!

Hi Lydia, my bub is getting his first BNB on next week (he'll be just over 8 weeks when we get it). When your babe was in it 23 hours for the first few months, did you use a baby carrier? I've got a Baby Bjorn and would love to keep using it, but I'm not sure it'll work with the brace when he's still little and wearing it all day.
Kate Berry hey! So we have a lillebaby (similar to babybjorn) and a wrap type one, I put him in the wrap some while he was in casts but when we were in 23-hour wear I honestly never really had an occasion to wear him (it was winter in Wyoming... ha). I know of people who do though, you just have to make sure their knees are comfortable - check out the Facebook group for baby wearing clubfoot babies!
Kate Berry not that I know of but it wouldn’t be surprising ha - can’t hurt to ask in the baby wearing one though, tends to be the same crowd as a general rule 😉 Personally casts and boots didn’t particularly affect breastfeeding that much - I’d use one hand between the legs to support the casts a bit better but other than that with BNB we just adjusted :)
Did they start your son at 70° or did he gradually get moved to that degree? Can you gradually move their foot out? My sons foot does not sit down in the shoe properly and I cannot see his heal through the window. The angle is too far and it’s pushing his foot up into the boot farther. I’m really worried this could do damage. I didn’t think our Dr and ortho person took time to help us. They literally sent the boots home w us to put on our son.
I can't remember the specific angle but 70 sounds right (they brought him down to 40 a little while back), and yes he started at that angle right off the bat. He had super flexible feet after the casting anyway so it never seemed to be a problem. If the heel isn't sitting right it may be a fit problem with the boots, they didn't even have your son try them on in the office?? I would go back and have them check the fit in person if you can, for sure! Best of luck
Erin Farbar hi! Right now we have the plain Walmart Garanimals brand triple roll socks, you know the ones that are folded down but if you roll them out they’re quite long. I’ve also gotten the Target Cat & Jack brand ones in the past, they’re basically exactly the same! The website clubfoot hub has a list of suggested brands I think, the basic thing for the socks though is that they’re tall and thin, so they fit comfortably inside the boot and ideally you can fold them over the top so they don’t dig down underneath :)
Hoping you can donate clubfoot shoes to us we cannot afford buying mitchell boots I have a bilateral clubfoot baby who's now 15 mos old using size 3 from the Philippines.

Are you talking about nipple shields? How do you do that? My son is new to BNB and has blisters on top both his feet.

My son has the same but he isnused to it now. Give it some time. My baby doesn't even notice them now. It's normal for him.
