Giuvarlakia is a winter dish and an absolute comfort food too. It's my son's favorite dish. Gemista is the summer dish and it's best with yogurt on top.
Thank you sir. I love that you had okra - one of my favourites. One can never have enough baklava. Though I do believe it is best when made with pistachios. It's always nice to observe how different cultures take the basics of Parisian recipes and make it their own. The stuffed profiteroles looked a lot like the Turkish lokum.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, even in Italy they have French influenced pastries and desserts. Actually lokum is a completely different type of dessert, the sweet cubes with powdered sugar on top. Too much baklava is not good either it's too sweet. 😀

@@AlexMarkTravel I wonder . I would love to know it’s olive oil. I just googled this . Olive oil is the primary fat used for frying in Greek cooking, and has been a standard practice in the Mediterranean diet for centuries. Olive oil is a good choice for frying because it has a medium-high smoke point, and it contains compounds that help protect it from breaking down.
@@goldengirls0125 For deep frying they don't use it for sure. Nobody use it for deep frying. It's too expensive and it's not practical. For pan frying yes, even Spanish used it mostly, until recently when it doubled in price.

If you visit Greece, Crete is a must. Crete will not disappoint. Lets talk about the Turkish version of some of the Byzantine food. Turkish kebab is not with pork while the greek gyros is pork. Turkish cacik is very watery like soup while the greek tzatziki is a thick sauce. Turkish baklava is with pistachio, very small with heavy butter that it is impossible to digest while the greek baklava is with nuts, vegetable oil big pieces
That's wrong actually, The region of Anatolia, which includes much of present day Turkey, was predominantly Greek both before and after the rise of the Byzantine Empire. This area was Greek influence long before the Greek Byzantines were there also, and it remained a significant part of Greek cultural and political life throughout the classical and Hellenistic periods of ancient Greece. The Byzantine Empire was Greek in its cultural, linguistic and ethnicity essence for the region of Anatolia/Greece and especially Constantinople . When the Ottomans arrived and conquered Anatolia, they not only took control of the land but also integrated and rebranded many aspects of Greek culture as their own. This included various cultural and musical traditions that originated from Greek communities in the region. The narrative that Turkish culture influenced Greek traditions and music/food is inaccurate; in reality, it was the Greeks who influenced the Ottomans. The Ottomans absorbed Greek cultural elements and then rebranded them as part of their own heritage. This rebranding led to a historical distortion where modern Turkish culture is often mistakenly viewed as the original source of these traditions, rather than acknowledging they were originally mostly Greek with of course some Turkic origins, but the main things that the ottomans influenced to the Greeks was words and names mostly.

For sure not. First it would be too expensive, second - olive oil has a low smoke point which is not good for deep frying. 🙂
