Not a Caps fan, but 100% an Ovi fan !
This guy brought a new meaning to hockey.
It'll be decades before we see another Ovi & I'm not ruling out McDavid on anything, but Ovi set the stage for Connor.
    Congratulations Alex !!

@@LOtarie I was to young to get to watch Gordie, but I did get to see the prime of Gretzky's career both on TV and in person at games and man was he fun to watch. I feel lucky to get to see Ovi do what he's done, and despite what people may think of his off the ice stuff(mainly the political stuff as he's never been a problem causer) it's hard to argue against what he's done. Despite the great amount of respect I have for Gretzky, I have equal respect for The Great 8.

      @johnnysockov2755 Год назад

Sorry Clem he will never be the best goal scorer in the game. Even Austin Mathews has a better goal percentage than your boy Ovi. Mike Bossy is the best goal scorer per game and Ovi will never come close to it. Mario is second and your boy won't touch him either. So your statement doesn't have any validity. He's good but not even in the top five which will be hard to beat any of them.

@@johnnysockov2755 It's very funny to compare the incomparable stuff. Those two are differents eras. With due respect you could compare Ovie with Cy Denneny and Cecil 'Babe' Dye because they also have higher gpg percentage, but they were born in 19th century) True that Auston is incredibly good, also Connor may to pass both Auston and Ovie in goals. But right now Ovie is the 2nd greatest after Gretzky.
Even overall goals for career are not the best feature to compare players with one another but it's probably one of the suitable.
      All the best

If Ovi maintains his current pace and, most importantly, is healthy, there is no reason to doubt that he will surpass Gretzky's achievement. It's amazing. However, as a team, they own an equally impressive milestone: It will soon be 56 years since last winning a Stanley Cup. The curse of Harold Ballard lives on. It will be a 4 game sweep for TB. He single candidly coughed up a goal against the Wild, and that loss closed the door on their season.
He did stick around to greet a kid along with Minnesota's Kiprizov, who was tossed from the third floor of the Mall of America and survived, he's a great ambassador to the game.

You might want to look up his assists and then ask yourself your own question.
It's really kind of silly to make it sound like he's only gotten those goals because he was greedy and selfish, but then turn around and try to give him a back handed compliment about sticking around to meet a child who nearly died after making it seem like he's only there for himself.
It's apparent you don't know very much about him, or his career both on and off the ice and just how much he's done for so many people and organizations as well.

Seriously does anyone else care about this other than Caps fans? He can score a thousand goals and no one will care.

Nobody cares because scoring 800 goals happened so many times in over a 100 years of NHL history????????

No, You're wrong. I don't like the Caps at all. But the man is impressive and it's a honor to watch him out of respect for what he has accomplished and what it is doing for hockey in general.

The franchise is going to waste the next 2-3 seasons just so Ovi can pass the record. He says he wants to win another cup but he plays 0 D.

He is a one trick pony and broke nothing. He takes one shot lefty from spot and dies nothing else ever.. Gretzky did it all. Anything ovvrchkin does will never count to the true hockey eye
