- During a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, accused Waukesha parade attacker Darrell Brooks requested to represent him in his upcoming trial. "Yes, I do. I would like to represent myself pro per," Brooks answered the judge when she asked him if he wanted to represent himself. "I've already said it on record, to represent myself as a sovereign citizen."

I love how the prosecution knows their case is so open and shut that they’re not even paying attention to this garbage.
The DA said in an interview afterwards that they mainly focused on anticipating and fighting his antics to protect the record against a possible appeal. They knew that they had video evidence of him mowing down children with his car - and video of the same car stopping and going at the command of the driver so as to dispel any notion of accident. They all but knew that any jury who would see that would convict. It was just about catching all pitfalls of the legal system on the fly, so no minor procedural thing could be spun up on appeal.
They paid close attention to EVERY aspect of the case, including this.

Just execute him already. What is the point of a trial? How could he be found innocent? I believe the judicial system fails the victims in a case like this.
He has the right to make this motion.
@@elainejohnson6955 While he has the right, the judge must determine that he can compitently serve as a his defense. thus the questions. Its highly likely that one of two things will happen.
1.) she determines that he can not adequately defend himself and serve as his own council and require the lawyers stay on the case.
2.) Rule that he can adequately defend himself, but find out who has been giving him this false legal advice and then hold that person in contempt or a criminal referral.
Remember, when you represent yourself you are bound to the same rules and duties to the court as any other lawyer appearing before the court. you must follow all procedures and make valid legal motions (to the best of your ability) and most importantly you are bound to give the court full candor.
@Null Pointer He was claiming to not understand obvious points. The Judge later describes his BS as "word games." Cite him!
@@kell_checks_in And then what, jail him for contempt? He's already there and he's never coming out.
I have never heard of somebody that lived off the government his entire life, also then claim that he is “sovereign”. 🙄
His attorneys are sitting there yelling "thank god" in their minds lmfao 😂
This guy doesn't seem to understand "understand."
I understand what you're saying 😂😂
Did you see the look on his lawyers face... priceless
His court-appointed lawyers must have been so relieved not to have to deal with Brooks' inane Sovereign Citizen ramblings.
Imagine trying to give this PoS a competent legal defense while he's in the back seat screaming about subject matter jurisdiction.
To claim "Sovereign Citizen" while living among others in a civilized society where everyone chips in to sustain that lifestyle is a contradiction.
I knew a guy like this.. he called himself a "jail house lawyer". We ended up evicting him because he was always causing problems at our leasing office. He would bully and try to intimate us. He represented himself and made a major fool after he lost twice..
"I think I will probably be better served representing myself." Oof, that statement did not age well.
It was never going to
it aged perfectly
