I am getting ready to buy Kasim's Live Bootleg album....but, I wanted to say how great a singer Kasim is, and Utopia is a forever great band... please let me see them live once, or buy one more new album from them!
Only 3 of the John Veleno ~ Ankh guitars were ever made. Todd was the owner of 2, but sadly, they were destroyed in a warehouse fire. After Veleno heard of their sad demise, he decided to make one last version albeit with improvements ( structurally and electronically ). He is still in possession of it and you could own it for a mere $9,745,000 U.S. dollars. Needless to say, John Veleno lives just a tad bit toward the eccentric side of life. $9,745,000 ?? Pfftt. lol

Really enjoyable tune Todd was always big on pop-prog and Kasim sounds great .I've really only starting getting into Kasim's work since he started playing with BOC so I've had to go back to hear all the early parts of his career.
Kas is a terrific singer, but I prefer Roger's vocal on the studio version. Roger's singing is more appropriate for the lyrics, adding an air of mysticism to the words. Kas actually oversings on this one, delivering it more like an arena-rocker than a subtle, jazzy ballad. Todd must have understood this...which is probably why Roger ended up with the lead on Oops, Wrong Planet.
I think this was recorded in August of '77, and Oops Wrong Planet came out in September, so the studio version must have been recorded before August. Maybe Roger was sick? Or maybe they were just experimenting.
I'll take Your Word For It...I could tell the difference, but I'd have to hunt up the original...I got too much other stuff to do...Thank You Very Much
