Good Afternoon Mate, firstly just like to apologise for my late arrival had some family issues we've been dealing with past couple of weeks so not been as diligent with watching my notifications on you tube as normal. Glad to see your on your way to recovery and I appreciate how much effort you put into this video especially so soon after surgery and definitely no need to apologise about your absence, your health comes first.
I remember our conversation on personal survival kits from last summer well. And I'm now driving my misses and my youngest daughter up the wall with my new RUclips fame from being mentioned lol, infact organising autograph signing for later as I type this.... only kidding everyone 😉
Right back to the video. And your selection of items.
Great choice on container, I have several of these myself both as the bcb pre packed survival kit ( highly pimped for my own needs ) and also a couple of empty ones that I made my own with. Great choice of items, especially the mini knife and saw blade. I carry the doug ritter psk knife in mine which suits me, and also carry a tops folding saw blade ( admittedly more designed for cutting metal then wood but will work in a pinch ? ) might look into changing it out for a more purpose wood cutting blade 🤔 I'll see.
I could also swap both blade and psk knife out for a alox swiss army farmer , that'd give me both blade and saw plus couple of other useful tools like awl and can opener. For similar amount of space. I tend to go more heavy on fire starting and water procurement and purification and always Inc in any kit I build life boat windproof matches from a ration pack plus 2 tampons and flint. Safety pins ( often overlooked but I believe highly useful items) a heavy duty zip lock poly bag for water collection plus a strip of puritabs , a p38 can opener ( as you can bet your life I'd find a stack of food tins without the ring pulls in a survival situation 😡) and a couple of oxon cubes ( hot drink and little morale boost ) also got a foil survival sleeping bag in orange held on the outside by about 10 feet of paracord might of missed out a couple of bits apart from that very similar items to yours. but again as you say " everyone's kit is different and should be tailored to them alone "
Moving on to excellent Nav section, very clear and concise instructional information 👌
Another little tip is most major canal routes tend to run North / south here in the U.K not sure if they go as far up as Scotland but might help with a rough direction guide ( but obviously you got some weird ones that might run willy nilly all over the place ) but as you say you need to do your homework first and familiarise yourself with the terrain you'll be heading too or travelling from.
Great video mate anyway. Thanks once again for taking to time out to make last summers conversation something that everyone can benefit from.
You and the family stay safe my friend, ATB Rob 😊👍

Thanks so much for your interaction on the channel without good comments and connections it would be pointless. I’m now off looking at maps of canals here in Scotland. Thinking the next one might be from the back of the truck to show the other end of the scale with Exped mattress, cot bed and defo not forgetting the cadac for pizza’s and possibly a few beers 🍺

Forgot to mention Great idea on the mini frontier water straw. Don't they purify around 10 gallon ? Definitely a better option for uk use as only a few hours from civilisation in any direction.
Also any kits anyone carries you should take the time to familiarise yourself with how the different items work especially with shop bought kits. Tins like these including my own should only be looked at as a back up to items carried in your pockets, Or kit carried in your bergen or daysack as a last ditch kit that'd might just save your skin.

@@STIXSURVIVAL doesn't it rain Ironbru up there lol. Just good to see you back on the road to recovery mate, that's the main thing. And loved the nav and nutrition lectures after the psk show and tell. I totally get the placibo effect of having snares and fishing kit. ( always carry brass wire and maybe a few hooks shot swivels etc ) think it's kind of second nature from my time in the forces and from lofty's book, that'd I'd be sad to see em go. Not that I could catch a fish to save my life 🤦‍♂️but they are sparkly so brighten my tin up a little. I once did a survival tracking and trapping course with a professional poacher turned game keeper just after I left the forces, we set out 180 proper weathered brass snares on his guidance pointing out the rabbit runs and tracks etc. We caught 2 rabbits. Yet set out 2 squirrel pole traps both worked and had a pair of squirrel s for tea. So chances of actually catching anything are slim to hopeless but would definitely keep you occupied mentally and also keeping up morale. Love the idea of a more substantial truck kit 👍and how's this for an idea 💡 been watching a few survival cache videos uk based not so much American as we can't have the same toys they do.
I'm thinking 50 cal ammo box size . Say small lightweight poncho, knife, couple tins of food say, fielighting kit etc etc. More as an idea then anything. Keep those old grey cells ticking over lol. Anyway enough waffling from me. Not ever been bored watching any of your videos mate from the early days and as one of the other comments said your maxpedition kits were some of the best on you tube and helped me refine my own kits from tips picked up from them. Even if I do now own more stocks of maxpedition kit then most maxpedition share holders 😊

@@Rob-qf2fs Yes better if it rained buckfast 😂 Funny you should say about stored gear. Many moons ago I had small 10 litre barrels stashed all over the place with some wine and pasta, smoked sausage type stuff in them. I had all the grid references on my GPS and took folk out for the night and just when they thought they had nothing to drink at the fire I’d dig a wee fruity red up. I’m thinking a camp out over night to review some comments and thank new subscribers. I just bought a new shinny winnerwell fire pit which needs reviewed so thought about combining them into one trip.

I'm a qualified skipper and didn't know about Mintaka rising in the East - I learnt something useful today :) Thanks!
Also you're very knowledgeable about nutrition and metabolic processes. Is this something that you've learnt in the army or later in life? I think that you should definitely make it into a separate standalone video. This is the sort of basic knowledge that should be taught in schools along with basic arithmetic and alphabet.
The only thing that I'd add to the latter part of your video (not to the tin) is the necessity of multivitamins and fish oil. Having done many such long fasting and intense training challenges and having once lost 45kg in 6 months, I can say that multivitamins and fish oil are a must.
About your survival tin, it's all great, and you're absolutely correct in pointing out that each such kit should be tailored to one's own conditions and necessities (in my case I don't even have such a tin, just have my EDC items on a braided paracord lanyard (Ranger BiC lighter (which has waxed jute, ranger bands, gorilla tape, sniper tape, kevlar, dental floss, needle, balloon and 2 water-tabs), knife, torch and whistle) and a small "gone-for-a-walk-pouch" which has a mylard, light poncho, SplashMap etc - basically covering all 10 C's), but you forgot to add sugar and tea. Potassium Permanganate without sugar?
By the way, PP is also great for gargling when throat is soar, swooshing when toothache and many other uses.
I'd also add a Vietnam Balm, Iodine, a backup map of local area on top of the tin. In any "got-lost" situation the best logic is to triangulate oneself in relation to closest roads.
In this day and age it would also perhaps make sense to add a small 2W solar panel (or some kind of hand crank charger) just enough to make that "don't worry" call.
For water obtainment, I'd add a Radar Key, British Waterways Key and 4-way Sillcock key. In most situations this is more practical than doing it the boy-scout way.

😂 Thanks again mate and you are welcome on the Mintaka thing. I love natural navigation I find it fascinating that skippers of old navigated the globe by the stars. Also thanks for the hint about the multi vitamins. I had Cancer a few years back and decided to take control of my health, while I was bedded with the chemotherapy, I took loads of online courses and taught myself about the body and how it works with different Apps and loads of RUclips videos. Once down the rabbit hole there’s no return 😂 Oh I’ve also learned something new about the PP and the throat. I have thought about a channel on this kind of stuff but might try a standalone on my channel under the guise of survival rations. Thanks again for your comments and support

@@STIXSURVIVAL in case of PP being used for gargling, one must be careful - the solution must be extremely diluted, as in the purple hue should be hardly noticeable! This is very important - PP misused can cause some serious damage!

I appreciate the nutritional stuff! After years of eating Keto a couple months ago I began the zerocarb/carnivor woe. It's amazing how well it works! As you say, if you're fat-adapted and running on ketones you'll have an ample supply of calories on your body. Being overweight is a problem for many folks today because most of us in the West have ready access to cheap & plentiful food, including forms that aren't common in nature (eg. unlimited sugar and salt). Most of my PSKs do have some kind of food element for moral but as you say, in a small kit it's not worth worrying about food for at least a couple weeks. If you can control your internal body temp and stay hydrated, you can survive for WEEKS!
Again, excellent content. Thanks for all you do. So much "survival" content is just unboxing videos and guys shilling for Chinese gear companies. It's nice to have videos that actually have substance to them. 😎🔥🙌

That was very interesting. I never thought of the 365 day year and the 360 degree circle part, but that makes perfect sense. The food part was very interesting as well, and I learned a lot there too, and I also heard that you'll starve to death eating just wild rabbits since they're so lean, and no fat. I'd watch more of these types of videos, but please, no more marathon hour and a half videos...lol It's hard for me to find that much time all at once to just watch a video. I'm good for 30 minutes here and there, and then it seems like I'm called to go and do something.
I appreciate the links to the items in your kit. Do you happen to have any links to where you got those small plastic vials you had your fishing kit in and potassium permanganate in?
I'm not sure if you're interested, but they do have bigger industrial bobbins that hold A LOT more fishing line and cordage on them. They're made by Singer and are 36.5mm wide and 12mm deep. I looked on the UK Amazon but couldn't find them. They have them on the US site and on ebay. Here's a link to the ebay and they have good pictures with a ruler so you can see how big they are. John wiseman is literally the godfather of survival training .
    That said ,
You should have included the victorinox ranger in your kit .
It replaces all your blades ,your arrow head, your handle ,your Allen key, your saw .....
And does MUCH MUCH MORE than all of them .
    Great head torch ...
FYI we cured both my mum and my dad from bowel cancer an breast respectively with DOG WORMING TABLETS ,they're both dead now but they died donkeys years after their cancer went away..
Great navigation tips ... the furthest point from the coast is 84 miles in Britain...there's no way to get dangerously lost on such a heavily populated ,small island ..if you have your button compass...
Obviously Canada, Australia, India, Asia America russia China, etc.etc.etc are very different..
    At night , the
    "N.E.S.W .
    .L.U.R.D "
    Night time navigation
system doesn't require any reference point or constellation knowledge. ...
( I learnt this from the great dave Canterbury)
    ...
    Far simpler system
    .
I'm not sure why you make night navigation seem so complex ...
BTW, I'm utterly embarrassed and ashamed by my lack of wild edibles knowledge..🙄
But I intend to improve .
The idea that the average person can last last well over 3 weeks with no food is technically correct , but that person's capability to function efficiently is severely compromised after a very short time, plus the electrolyte deficiency associated with long term fasting can cause potentially fatal atrial fibrillation ..
    I'm a fat bastard BTW...

Hi David. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment with your detailed comments. My friend has a ranger and yes it’s a very nice bit of kit but I wanted to keep it more about the tin than the tools. My own personal thoughts are if you scale up to that size of tool you’d be better with a waist pack like the M1 from maxpedition. With regards to the Nav, yes I’m familiar with L.U.R.D but wanted to keep my stuff original as I will cover this subject a lot in the future. I don’t want to be seen regurgitating or copying Dave C stuff on my channel, I want to show other alternatives and get people to actually understand how it all works. Plants and trees are coming soon so hopefully you can get some good info on them here. I do disagree with your comments on the food as a normal person should not show any signs of deficiency until or after 40 days, we are designed by nature for this but I do agree that we are all very far from the point that it would feel normal to go without food. The food companies have done a proper job on us all with high sugar concentrations in all processed food. Effectively getting people addicted to sugar.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I look forward to your future videos on wild edibles .
I used to do water only fasting , believing it to be harmless for up to 30 or 40 days ...I built my way up to 9 days, and was then hospitalised with severe heart arrhythmia..the hospital blood test results confirmed a low sodium diagnosis due to water only fasting ,I had to go on an intravenous saline drip for 24 hrs to restore my sodium to a safe level .
I now pack salt stick electrolyte caps in my survival kit and I always use sea salt in my water if I'm fasting .
You can feel free to "disagree" with proven ,medical facts , but people reading the comments can
Easily Google the potentially fatal risks of extended ,water only fasting for themselves.

I guess we are all different and need to experiment with things. It is a highly controversial issue especially putting it out there for debate, some will have bad experiences and some good. I do agree with the extra electrolytes. Are you all good now or is it a permanent thing?

All OK now thanks , lesson learned the hard way...lol
I'm actually of the opinion now that water only fasting might be perfectly safe if you only drink the bare minimum water based on just quenching extreme Thirst as opposed to drinking 2 or 3 litres of water a day .
I think the low sodium was due to too much water ,which dilutes and flushes out electrolytes...
I reckon just a pint a day ish would work well ...
