Gay is very slow at starting. Would have won more if he had a faster start I think but you also have to be able to maintain the speed if you accelerate quickly. I notice Asafa typically slows down at end of races so maybe he is burned out.
Not accurate comparison. Also they both "obtain" power the same way lol. Pushing the ground down and backwards to keep themselves standing and moving. The reason in this different start is PURELY due to preference + what you deem are your stronger muscle groups. Some people have big quad heads and come push the blocks harder. Some have strong hamstrings and can generate the same force vector later in the race. Some like tyson have big psoas muscles and can contract the leg faster. Harder for powell and bolt due to bigger Femur. They both use the same principle as any other speinter/runner/animal that essentially walks forward

Gay loses a lot of speed and power with so much side to side action where as Powell has good straight angles
He gains power by going side to side it makes you push harder of the ground
it screws up with momentum.
