    That was interesting, however, it would have been nice to see the additional living quarters at the other end . Quite a long boat !

      You can see all the living quarters on the website. This was an unplanned encounter and I had been cruising solo for three weeks. It wasn't exactly tidy!!!

    I married an ex boaty she was born in a narrow boat on the grand Union, as were her parents and grandparents. Her family left the boats towards the end of the 60s and they in about 68 or 9 moved into the lock cottage at Marsworth . She lived their with her parents until around 1978 when she moved in with me in Aylesbury. Her parents lived their until Around 1990. The cottage was the turned into a tearoom call bluebells. Had a couple of short holidays with her mother and father on a borrowed narrow boat borrowed from another retired boaty. Even when the wife’s dad was in his 70 he still wanted to run for 16 hours a day. On second day he woke me up at 6 in the morning and said thought I let you have a layin cos your on holiday. After 4 days I was knackered but I would not have missed it for anything.

The engine sounds brilliant with its chugging sound thanks Nigel for showing his boat, l had a little smile when u were told about the baby drawer years ago it was common to put babies in drawers to sleep when space and money was short. Thanks again xx💚

    Fabulous video Marina. Just loved the sound of that old engine, As I have just bought an old wooden cruiser it was interesting to see how Nigel maintains the balance of tradition, authenticity and also make the boat practical and useable. I'm still figuring that out.

    Thanks for this very interesting blog. One can’t fail to be fascinated by the sound of the Kelvin engine. It reminded me of days long ago when I walked along the towpath and watched the working boats pass by. I often watched as bargees filled their brightly painted containers at a water point.

    Owl had a Lister which was removed and dropped in my boat in the 80s . I think Owl didnt move after that and was part of the ongoing decline and disaster at Sileby until she was resued

    I've sometimes wondered, if a working boat was travelling light or even empty, would some of the family - maybe the kids - sleep under the canvas to give more space?

    Are these old boats built with better or thicker steel. Modern boats seem to be in real danger of needing re plating after 10 years in the water. At 12:14 is that an old style bus bell push “Push Once”

    Would have loved to see how the slanted roof line affects the usable interior space. Bet it's quite loud in the rain!

    • @yarwoods2115
      @yarwoods2115 2 года назад +1

      You can only hear the rain at the windows. Unlike conventional tin tops, there is less pointing upwards and there are the cloths softening the impact.

    Painting boats. Using catalyzed urethane dries in 30 min and is tuff as rubber when dry. So tuff sanding only scratches it. I used on my top and it's like fiberglass. TERRIFIC!!

    Sorry, not a fan of this type of video. If I was a guy and liked all that technical/engine, etc. stuff it would have been different. But it was ok to see something entirely different. Travel safe and looking forward to your next video. Travel safe.
