The one thing that made me fall utterly in love with Death and Chuck are the lyrics from Within the mind. As i am perusing dentistry and struggling with marijuana dependency because of depression, i keep reminding myself the power of letting go lies within the mind. Incredible Chuck. That song is so sentimental to me.
One thing I like about chuck is his tone and his riffs are very accessible to play, if you've been a guitarist for awhile of course. And what's even more amazing is chuck's progression from scream bloody gore to TSOP. From just straight up death thrash all the way to beautiful progressive death metal his guitar playing got significantly better. Spiritual healing was the turning point of that.
Totally agreed. One reason why I fell into playing Death so much was because they hit a sweet spot between technical and accessible. I agree he became a much better player later, but I actually find SBG and Leprosy to be the most difficult to play because it's just so fast and insane. Later stuff is still difficult but you won't find one song that's as hard to keep up with as Open Casket or Primitive Ways. That album breaks my arm.
@@DeathCovers I find spiritual healing prolly to be the sweet spot of technical and easy, like for example I can play spiritual healing but not living monstrosity all the way through lmao. Sometimes he came up with shit that was kinda difficult
@@Kasketthrash Absolutely. There's at least one song from each album that causes me a lot of difficulty. But I don't think there's any shame in it. Chap is a legend.
@@DeathCovers Honestly from what I noticed every metal band has a prominent technique they use. Death uses alot of alternate picking and tapping, Metallica uses a alot of downpicking, Pantera uses alot of gallops and groove, and etc. Its useful learning songs by bands because if you do you can literally incorporate all of their styles into your playing and make it your own. It's a useful way of learning guitar and extremely fun.
Shit man! Totally Death-like sounding riffs. Sounds like a bonus track from Spritual Healing!! It's like hearing a new Death song, it gave me goosebumps.

Thanks mate! I've a few songs written over the years that are basically Death worship in the way that Gruesome does it. I might record some and put them up one day.
Awesome stuff I remember seeing Death live on the Symbolic tour & hanging out with Gene Hoglan before & after the show it was amazing great video & very well played😀🤘🤘

@@marekkrynicki3746 yeah I know the pain. I tried various plugins throughout the years before finding Bias and even then it took a long time before I found the two tones that I use, and I've been shaping them bit by bit ever since. I was considering doing a video because not everyone would have Bias FX 1, it's not even possible to buy anymore, and the tones don't sound the same when transferred to Bias FX 2. Plus I can show each amp chain separately and break down what everything is doing, which could help people using different software/hardware.
@@symbolic1884 Interesting! I'm not as familiar with Gruesome. I've listened to most of their stuff before but didn't even know "Lethal Legacy" was by them when you said it, but yeah I agree they sound similar. I'd assume they took the same influences as me for that riff - the one in Living Monstrosity right after Chuck's solo, and the one in Killing Spree also after his solo.

Wow, what a tribute!
The sound and the riffing is on point!
Big compliment coming from you buddy! Caught your entry from #59, it was unbelievable.
@@DeathCovers thank you very much!
I’m glad you liked it :)
Congratulations for being on the last SWOLA :)
P.S.: the part at 0:38 gives me extreme goosebumps, it’s so amazing

You nailed the SH tone!
That was tasty! More like this please sensei!
Sublime 👌👌👌
The first riff sounds like a mix of Within the Mind and A Waste of Life by Gruesome.
Well spotted! Can you identify the influences for the rest?
@@DeathCovers The riff at 0:38 reminded me of “Lethal Legacy”.
