      Do they sell those plastic spacers with the polycarbonate panels? Belle is so precious. I loved caterpillars, too. I never see them in Florida.

    Predrilling the sheets does not only save you time, it is absolutely necessary for polycarbonate sheets. You should be predrilling your holes slightly larger than your screws to allow for contraction and expansion. Great looking tiny greenhouse!

    • @alexjenkins1643
      @alexjenkins1643 7 лет назад

      Absolutely, of all the tips I've been reading in recent days this is something I've read on numerous occasions. Another thing that is key is to ensure you place the fixings at the highest points of the corrugation. This is as water should, assuming you have a pitch about 5 degrees, never sit here and leaks will not be an issue.
      I'm currently looking at a polycarbonate roof for my conservatory, so not corrugated. However, having researched numerous brands I am unsure as to whether I should turn to Axiome for my polycarbonate sheets. I've found brilliant prices at www.roofingmegastore.co.uk/polycarbonate-roofing-sheet-axiome.html and have read many great things about Axiome polycarbonate. I would, however, appreciate your feedback!?

      Sorry, I am in the US. I have no idea on pricing. It looks like it is UV protected since they say it has a 10 year life expectancy, but again, I have never heard of the brand.

    Looking good! I never did pre-drill. I let the screws do the cutting. I would use less translucent for roof, as it gets very hot in the summer time.

    I use a polycarbonate called Soft lite on my greenhouses. It is made by Amerilux. If you fasten the roof panels on in the valleys you will find the wind doesn't cause as much problem. Just place your fastener in the middle of the valley. You will not have roof leakage doing it this way. The fasteners at the top and bottom of each panel should be in each valley. Go every other valley for any purlins between the peak and eve.

    A question: With this clear roofing material, does it allow for all the necessary sun rays to pass through for good plant growth? Thanks.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  5 лет назад +4

      Yes and probably too much. If I did it again I would choose a more diffused plastic. Clear plastic allows very harsh light rays through and creates a lot of heat and shadows. A more diffused light would give a better light for the plants.

    • @bobbyraymedina
      @bobbyraymedina 4 года назад +1

      Have you thought about using a Scotch-Brite pad or something of that nature to scuff up the panels, you might get better light diffusion

    I had this done by a contractor and the panels from the roof keep blowing away in high winds.very dissappointed. I realize that he left all of them overhanging a lot,so the wind gets under them and blow them away. I think It needs to be cut to size and secured really well

    • @GhostvaperYT

      make sure they are fastened down well and remove any edges that overhang too much! the wind will just rip them off
