Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.

I previously lived 15 mins from Kensington and I can tell you first hand that it is hell on earth. I wish patience and positivity to those individuals who are trapped down there. It’s incredibly disheartening but even more heart breaking to see young children down there too.
Also the Children cannot play in that Park like many of us did when we were Children. That hits my heart deeply.😢😢

Mental Hospitals..are really a thing of the past. Closed in the '80's...and some with good cause..due to mistreatment of patients. What is need for many of these individuals ..are compassionate mental facilities. It's outrageous that the city is allowing this. Just heartbreaking.

While doing wound care this weekend I came across several individuals with exposed femur bones from overused injection sites, it’s getting considerably worse as time goes by.
Wow that sounds horrendous I got a image from that comment, many year's ago a friend of mine who was becoming a drug and alcohol counsellor told me about the video's they had to watch of drug users that had gangrene and how they are screaming in pain as the gangrene has rotted their blood supply😳

@@gormleym77 Since 2004 when I started catching the 60 bus at K and A it's been filthy down there. Also the place has always been crawling with drug addicts up and down and under the EL train. Now it's gotten worst especially from front street all the way up through Kensington Avenue. Kensington

@@josecastellanos9713 well it's safe to say yes, some could've started from childhood trauma, job loss, prescription abuse that lead to the abuse of pills that fell into recreational use to daily dependency and it's now a everyday fight to get their fix before they go into withdrawal.

You can walk to this Gateway to hell in 5 min. This nightmare was created by those in government and those within 3 letter agency's funded by Americans. Pay attention to the day and night sky as the past year event is a big distraction from something that may be coming from far away. See all these people in this video...They are Houseless aka homeless...Proper hygiene - nope. How many died from the event? How many died from overdose, murder, suicide? That number is off the charts. These people will not take just any jab...only if it chases the dragon. This is coming to a city near you but most likely is already there. Go find the Kensington of your area. Good Luck in whatever the future holds. Turn off your television if you haven't already.
If these so-called representives are working for us in washington we should force them to live in areas of the country that seem to need their attention. Living in washington in their comfortable pent house apartments and gated communities is just not getting the message across to them.

There are some free agent sets on that block, it can be dangerous because no one really "owns" those sets and anyone can setup shop there. Since it's not connected to any brand, people there might rob or sell beat dope, or do whatever.

I live a 10min walk from Kensington.. it's my neiboring community. It's really heart breaking that no one is stepping up to help. I literally take a 20 min extra ride to avoid having to go there for the EL.. Soo many lost souls
