    Impressive technique and good explanation. A 2-stage vacuum pump is now on my list. Thanks!

    Very cool! The small Tesla coil setup is very nice. I honestly didn't know that you can get such a good discharge without a metal wire sealed in the tube! I see the comments below about adding a metal electrode. I learned how to do it with uranium glass over tungsten wire. I like what you are doing, for demos, since it avoids making glass-metal seals.

    Nice video. I'm just wondering if you put a tiny grain of iodine in then vacuum and seal, whether the iodine would sublime into a gas form in a useful concentration to ionise with the Tesla coil. Warming and cooling would vary the gas pressure. Might be interesting

      Interesting idea! I’ll have to try it out. I will let know know how it goes.

    Please make a Crooks Tube...similar to this but with metal electrodes at each end inside the tube that can be connected to an external HV power source.

    In this video you used an Autogen 2 stage vacuum pump that is attached to some sort of stop cock platform device. Where did you buy this black stop cock platform? I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere.

    I am definitely using your video series to get started with the hobby!

    You use an Autogen 2 stage vacuum pump that has some platform device with a valve to fill the glass with gas, but where did you buy that platform valve device? I can't seem to find it for sale online although the pump appears available for sale.

    Check out "didy clips". They make special camera filters made with didymium to cut out the sodium flare. Just like your lamp working glasses. They have them for go pros, cell phones and several other camera options.
    They are an absolute necessity when filming glass in the flame.

      Thanks, I will check it out. I was going to cannibalize a pair of glasses eventually, but if theres already a product, that would be great.

    6:19 - when you seal it, is the vacuum pump injecting argon at that stage? Thanks

    Do you anticipate a upper limit to the tube diameter? Could you use a 2" diameter tube, for instance?

      If you can create the proper vacuum and back fill it with the gas, then you 100% can do it! If you physically can make an adapter or something for the vacuum hose then it's possible

    What torch and what gas are you burning? I'm in the market to buy glassblowing torch except I'm on a budget. £200 max

      I’m using a nortel major minor, with oxy-propane. Best bet is to check Facebook market place for deals, that’s how I got mine super cheap.

    There's no way that was left on for long enough, the better the vacuum the less work it takes!

    • @lawabidingcitizen5153
      @lawabidingcitizen5153 Год назад

      I don't think a better vacuum would have done much, it seemed like well under 10hPa judging by the discharge, so a better vacuum wouldn't make much of a difference, since atmospheric pressure is about 1000hPa

      Yes, yes you did lol. I plan on it just waiting on the special wire. Idk what I’m going to make yet though, a light bulb maybe or a cathode ray tube.

    • @thesciencefurry

      Weirdly enough, I can't get a good seal with more than one wire for some reason. I use tungsten wire. What are you going to use?
      I already made some vacuum tubes that can create x rays. But they didn't last very long because the seal isn't good.

    • @WheelerScientific
      @WheelerScientific  2 года назад

      Did you oxidize the wire before sealing it so it wet the glass properly. I’ll be using a copper nickel alloy wire. An X-ray tube sounds fun to make.

    • @thesciencefurry
      @thesciencefurry 2 года назад

      @@WheelerScientific I can oxidise it and make a glass bead seal that looks good. But as soon as I put it into a bigger tube the nice yellow color goes away. I suspect the flame to reduce it again or something. Same happens If I seal the oxidised wire in directly. I don't have a burner with oxygen. But I bought a bottle of oxygen and try it this weekend.
