    This trip you took was fantabulous! Thanks for sharing these wonderful views of the Colorado mountains. Your brave to do this narrow dirt drive. I grew up where there are some mean roads around. Our County and tamed some of them since more people have moved into our area. Now they are worried that so many people are leaving us.

I also noticed the #3 was a lot more shelfy and I would hate to meet someone on that one shelfy part where it looks like it was fixing to rip your roof off. Good video, nice and slow. This is always the toughest question I get. I don't want to discourage anyone from going to these awesome places. But leaving parts on the ground or a hole in your oil pans no good either. Maybe someone who took an Impreza on this trail will comment. Honestly I would rent a Jeep or side by side and not worry about anything but the views. Its pricey but not as much as getting towed off the mountain. Probably not what you want to hear but that's what I would do.

    also did it take 5 hours because you stopped a lot - it is only 31 miles from lake city to ouray and says it take an hour and a half

    • @donm8011
      @donm8011  3 года назад

      Yes we stop a lot for pictures and when the trail is busy you stop for other rigs to pass as well. I think a hour and a half wouldn't be possible under the best conditions. But that's been my experience over the years. The camera never really shows how rough these trails are which limit your speed of course. Thanks for watching.

    It seems improbable the road is two way... How can two vehicles pass on that last tight section of deep canyon before Ouray?

    • @donm8011
      @donm8011  5 лет назад +3

      When vehicles meet on a steep, narrow road which is not wide enough for two vehicles, the vehicle going downhill must yield the right-of-way by backing up to a wider place or by stopping to leave sufficient space for the vehicle going uphill to pass, except where it is more practical for the vehicle going uphill to return to a wider space or turnout. There aren't many turnouts on this stretch but surprisingly in all the trips we have made on this trail it hasn't been an issue, knock on wood. Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching.
