    Congratulations on finishing and publishing a game! That alone already puts you in a small top percentage of devs, who actually managed to finish what they started. And thanks for sharing the info about your launch.

    your game looks good! one thing I'd note though is, most things in it look like they lack *texture*, everything looks very smooth - and the font's used are default. it makes your game lack a coherent "identity" (as in, it feels inconsistent - the world is so clearly stylized and awesome looking, but it all feels just a touch off finished). and maybe some polish, like the death screen being instant.
    over all though, looks awesome! good job on the release bro :D

    50 sales is way more than what some people get. My first game only made 10 sales in 5 months and 3 were returned. I actually removed it from steam and refunded the people who purchased it. While waiting for steam to fulfill my request I got 150ish sales in 2 days and almost 200 wishlists. I have no idea why. I think it was because I was refunding people so they were all trying it out before refunding? Out of the 150ish sales, only 2 more people refunded. In the end, my partner and I realized that the only way you make good money on steam making games is if you have a huge following already, or nail the lottery. Either way, your take home will be rougly around 33-38% after everything is said and done. Meaning if you make 100k, you take home ~35k as a rough estimate. While that is a nice chunk of money, if you spent a whole year doing game development you only made 35k in that year. That's ~$18 an hour here in the US. That means your $5 game needs to sell 20k copies to even get that much.
    Edit: Also @Pre Dusk, don't get discouraged man. What you should take out of this is that it was a learning experience that you know more how to do what you've already done thus far. These kind of projects are good supplementary income and can eventually lead to finally hitting big or even getting the crowd.

    Game looks great, bit more marketing and out reach to streamers could have probably increased sales a lot. Not sure how big it is content wise, but think the price could have been a bit higher near the $8 or even $13 price point - so that you could have done more interesting discounts in the future and keep the game selling for longer.

    My game got about 200 sales from the first 24hours, I had 1200 wishlists at the time of launch, (which is now around 3000 slightly over a month after launch) I spent 6 months making it solo including the last month which I spent on marketing. I'm still updating and marketing it, the game cost $5.99 and had 10% off at launch, I put basically no money into developing it.

If my first game got no sell at all, I'd have to save up money for several months before I could publish again but that's all cool since the second game gonna take more than several months anyway.

You have a good start though, those sales numbers are most indy's dream. The feedback you've had is positive, so you know you have a good game to promote. It's all about getting it in front of people now. Like the below comment says - Marketing & soon.

    I don't know why people keep making 2D action platformers and expect success. It is literally the tutorial genre, oversaturated would be an understatement. Pick another genre guys! Be a needle, not the haystack!

    • @purejoymind1705
      @purejoymind1705 2 месяца назад

      The same reason sci fi novels keep selling? It's not about being the tutorial genre or not. People make things they like and connect to and it will still find It's audience. Take Broforce. Simple mechanics. Everything looks simple in that game. But it's such an amazing and fun game to play

    • @megatronusv2215
      @megatronusv2215 2 месяца назад

      @@purejoymind1705 this is a very naive take. Extremely few games on Steam make even 100k$ a year, all others will be financial losses. Of those games, a really huge portion of loss-making games are side-scrollers. You'd have to really really luck out to stand out. Expecting success when the odds and saturation are so out of whack, is really poor planning. I agree, works of passion are why people make games, but they're not going to guarantee a game that actually sells. People should really think hard before trying to make a game if they actually plan on selling it and aren't doing it as a hobby

    I personally don't understand why so many game developers make 2d games ...
    I got many game ideas, but still havn't start, maybe in few months.
    This is one of my game ideas:
    A 3rd person action adventure made in Unreal - it plays in a dystopian but cozy world, but it would be totaly different than most of the "normal" games ... a beautiful female character escapes from a laboratory without nothing, she got no idea what's going on, she knows nothing (can't speak, can't read, got no idea what clothes are), she learns nothing, she is immortal but extremly weak, also very clumsy and looses often the weapon while fighting, extreme falldamage would exist, in the game would be no inventory only what she can carry in the right and left hand, climbing would not be possible with something in the hands that means throwing everything away, no UI (no menu, no lifebar, no map, no tutorial), the enemies would be others escaped similar like her from the lab, zombies, robots, animals and many traps ..... the whole game would be a torture to play, in the game would be permanent nudity but no sexual content. I hope not but there is a chance that that this game could be banned at Steam. lol

      @@LostAntGames Don't get me wrong, I also play many 2d games ... but all of them are free to play browser gacha games. On my Steam wishlist are arround 300 games (most are on it just for inspirations and to look at the designs), arround 50 of them are 2d ... but I think Contra: Operation Galuga is the only 2d game that I would buy if it will be one day on sale 70% off.
      Thanks, I will start soon with game development .... I just need to oder a new big SSD just for my game projects.
      I wish you also good luck with your new game ....... and if you want to make it really successful, make a game with anime girls who deliver packages. ^^

    Put it on google play and make it free. Thats what I did. And put in app purchases or run Ads I found that to be the most profitable way of making a mobile game. But if its something very complex like with a story like GTA or Online Multiplayer like NOVA 2 then you can charge to buy the game.
    If you want money quick like this year is all I care about to profit in the game then make it pay to play but if you want small but consistent revenue for the next 10 years just make the game free and add Ads + in App purchases. And keep updating.

    Im almost sure, that this game would sell pretty good if you made it for mobile, maybe with some added microtransactions. My first thought after seeing it was that it looks like a mobile game.
    Dont get me wrong, i dont consider "mobile" looks as something negative. But this alone would make me skip this game when looking through steam, because i don't like playing mobile-like games on PC.
    I asked 2 of my friends and both of the responses were the same - ("Would download it on google play" and "Looks like android Hollow Knight").
    I wish you the best in your game dev journey, and i hope this game will sell great in the end.
