Hey man, thank you for talking about invisible diseases like Crohn's. It normalizes it, and encourages people who suffer from it to recognize that they are not alone. It sucks, but it's just the hand you were dealt. A significant portion of my friends and family are affected by similar afflictions, but don't talk about it. I think it's important when someone as prominent as yourself talks about it, because not everyone rolled 20s on their character creation sheet, and the fact that you persist *in spite of it* is incredibly encouraging. Thank you for all the joy and entertainment you bring my family.
Having a positive outlook, ideas to look forward to, and especially friends of family to share thoughts with are extremely important living with a chronic and invisible illness like this. I'm so lucky to have a Mom, Dad, sisters, brother, Wife, and kids who understand my suffering and can talk to me about it. Sadly, some people have others in their lives who doubt what they're going through or the things they say because it's not so visible the signs of the struggle (even if things show up on tests or scans). That can be sooo hard to live with, and I pray those people can find someone to show them the support and love they need.
You should read "Wheat Belly" by William Davis.. most of those ending up with Crohn's are dietarily creating the vicious cycle to the full blown affect prior, and never know it. I really hope that you will be well soon, being sick is no fun at all and I really appreciate you prioritising your health over RUclips. More and more people tend to do it the other way around, which is nothing but ideal. While waiting for the next video, I will enjoy rewatching some of your older videos. You always learn something from them, even after watching for the third or fourth time!
Thank you so much for all your work, it's been so inspiring! I really hope you get better very soon, and keep enjoying time with your family and friends.
Take care Jeff! As someone with Crohn's disease, I know the feeling, and while it doesn't seems to be as bad as you, it's been kicking my ass too! I'm constantly bloated, have intestinal blocages, frequent migraines, nausea, bleeding and I'm tired all the time, to the point, I can hardly get out of bed. If you ever need someone to talk to, who can relate, don't hesitate to reach out.
Oh man, hope you can find a way to get into remission-and stay there a while! And always consider finding another GI for a second opinion. That's how I found out about one drug that was newish at the time and got me through college in total remission!
@@JeffGeerling Thanks man, I really appreciate it! I switched GI around 2 years ago, after constantly changing medications. We are going through everything, again, trying different things. My remaining symptoms might be due to having IBS, in addition to Crohn's, but nothing is definitive right now. I'm trying rectal manometry for a couple of weeks/months, and I hope, it'll help us figure what's going wrong! I hope you'll find the right treatment for you.
My wife has Chron’s. My sympathies to you and your wife. Life with chronic illnesses and being a care giver are both challenging i their own way. I am happy you have support!
You’re amazing, I couldn’t do all you do and I’m healthy…sometimes just putting away my laundry is a major accomplishment! 🤣 Your supportive wife is a blessing, no doubt this is hard on her too. I wish the best for both of you!
I've recently also been diagnosed with Crohn's after my bowel perforated and I went into septic shock. Had emergency surgery and part of my bowel removed too. It sucks, I know. Best of luck with your battle. You are not alone. Look after yourself.
Also, @Jeff, I also have a "hidden illness". I'm on the autism spectrum which makes me a bit of a pain in the rear to people -- unintentionally. I'm trying hard to overcome it, but like Crohn's, I was born with it and I can't "get rid of it". All I can do is "fight it".
@@CodeMasseur I'm not much of a social butterfly either, but the best advice I can give is to read the room, and if no one else is talking, you usually don't need to be talking. Silence is completely okay.
As someone who also suffers from IBD (Ulcerative Colitis) it is very inspiring and motivating to hear people like you and Mr. Beast talk openly about your struggles with the disease and helps make the mental strain more manageable. Sending love and healing thoughts your way.
To Thomas and Jeff, I can second this. Sending this comment from the toilet right now during a UC flare that I got since the beginning of the year. Luckily for us UCers, we can be „healed“ by the colostomy. Jeff‘s CD also stretches far beyond the colon, probably into the smaller intestine as well. That can’t be removed :(
@@fg3ify I've been having one since July. It really sucks the whole time. I seem to be getting better in that i feel a lot better than a few weeks ago but i seem to be kinda plateaued. Hate being tired and feeling bad all the time and unable to eat anything particularly tasty. :/ I don't know how I could sustain myself for as long as you have. I've lost so much mass, i think i would die if it went on that long.
Cheering for you, Jeff. My dad survived colon cancer five years ago, and half his colon was removed. He lived with an ostomy bag for a couple of years before they reversed it. While he made the best of it, and I'm sure you do too, I can only imagine the added issues with Crohn's. Stay safe, get healthy, we'll be waiting for you.
Jeff, please take your time! Your community will wait for you! I'm looking forward to every video you make, it's always my first click on the YT start page if you uploaded, but please don't rush anything. Thanks for speaking up about Crohn's. People need to speak up about health issues. Talk helps people to not suffer in silence. Many, if not all of us are carrying something and it's empowering to not feel alone even if others issues are different. In my case, I have IBS that is getting worse. I'm also dealing with mental health issues that were probably overlooked when Gen-Xers were in public & secondary school, especially girls. Covid-stress is causing some of these issues to surface. It remains to be seen if stress and diet are the issue, or if the disorder is accelerating. Time and testing will tell. This video and comment is not about me. It's about you. Although I'm a new subscriber, I have watched many of your videos before subscribing due to post Explaining Computers recommendations. So, being some random stranger, I may not have standing to make recommendations, but I hope that you do slow down. We're in an RPI shortage anyhow and it breaks my heart to see one of those devices get chewed up by a bandsaw. Self-care is important. I've been in awe of the dedication of many RUclipsrs. It feels like you are apologising that a possiby fatal disoder is preventing you from releasing. Major TV productions release 12-24 episodes a year with giant crews and casts. So many RUclipsrs do their thing alone, maintaining family, personal time, a job if they aren't full time RUclipsrs and self-care. I think that your audience will be here and may grow even if you slow down or take a break. If income is an issue, I would hope that some of your audience step forward to offset any adsense losses. Get well, and I'll check out your other channel.
So sorry to hear you've been so sick. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 17 years ago so I can understand what you have to deal with. Mine is not as severe as yours but flare ups are definitely no bueno. Hope you feel better soon and please take it easy.

That is simply incredible! Fingers crossed this flare passes quickly and you get some lasting remission on the other side!
Jeff, hang in there. My sister has Crohn's Disease. They haven't taken out her colon, but it was really bad for a while. They finally found a drug that is working for her. Love your videos. Waiting for the next one. I have a raspberry pi and started a streaming company partially because of you. I am praying for you.
Jeff, thank you for all what you do! The passion, humour and quality you put in everything you do here is hard to value. I wish your disease to calm down and be your friend rather than your enemy. May the God bless you.
Jeff I'm with you little brother. Bled to death and lost all but 6" of my Sigmoid Colon in 2010, and had an Ileostomy for 4 months. Luckily I had the plumbing reconnected. But the struggle does give way to adaptation and a normal life again. Chin Up!

Thanks Jeff for sharing your Crohns. As a fellow sufferer it is great for someone to be sharing just how debilitating this disease can be. I am personally in a really great spot with my illness but obviously understand what it is like. I hope you can get it back under control soon.
Jeff, I suffer from Colitis so, I can empathise with you, people don't realise the full extent of the impact IBD has on your life until they live it first hand. A few years back I had a flare-up which lasted for over six months without a day of remission, I was in Hospital seriously ill and almost died. I wish you all the very best for the future.
I know this stuff is rough; I had a temporary colostomy due to a perforated colon & diverticulitis which almost killed me (complicated with Sepsis.) I grok the pain and exhaustion. You do what's best for you and your family. Lots of love from [ near ] Oxford, UK.

Hearing the upbeat sound in your voice is something that is hard to fake... and it shows through to your viewers. Draw on that energy as best you can, look out for yourself, and keep doing what you do. Again, thanks, and be well!
Just found your stoma/Crohn's related videos. Thank you for sharing, I've had a stoma since 2019, and I'm booked in for surgery next month to reverse it, fix a hernia, and form a new one on the other side (yup, going from right to left), and never expected to have stuff like this in common with you! I've subscribed to your other channels, I'll probably keep those as something to watch during recovery. Look after yourself!
I had the right to left revision, and if you're like me and had some issues at the old stoma site, prepare to see a nice gaping hole over there after surgery! I didn't know quite what to expect, but that was something else. Luckily I had a very kind sister who helped me with wound management, changing the dressings and such-that helped speed up recovery, along with eating *tons* of protein!
@@JeffGeerling the existing one isn’t in great shape… I spoke to my surgeon yesterday, and she’s hoping to do a good job of fixing it up, but we’ll see! In all honesty, if I’m able to stay hydrated easier, and don’t get diversion colitis again, that’s a win!
@@Shonkyretro Ah hydration... that and eating the right foods to prevent blockages are the two biggest things I think (outside of health issues outside our control) to make living with a stoma a bit easier. Every time I eat a little too fast, or have something that I know is at the boundary of what's okay... it ends in at least a pretty bad stomach ache!
Jeff - I have only started watching your channel this year but you are what RUclips needs! I learn so much from everyone of your videos. Were not going anywhere, take your time and get healed up. I have a whole archive of your videos to watch so Ill keep that algo busy!

Just found your channel looking up some jellyfin stuff. As much as I hate to see it, I love to see someone who’s not ashamed to speak about this on their platform. About three years ago, I got very sick VERY suddenly. It turns out I had a severe case of ulcerative colitis. Went to ER, got sent home in a couple days. A week later, my colon perforated and had to have a complete colectomy. I nearly died from it, and woke up with an ostomy…I’ll try and keep it short, but LSS, had a reversal a year after that, suffered through an ileus immediately thereafter. After 3 surgeries for fistulas I was diagnosed with crohn’s. My whole life has been upended but through all the suffering and autoimmune hell I’m getting back on my feet (even with pyoderma now!) Again, I’m so sorry for your struggles and pain, but it helps more than you know to know that there are others out there like me that are fighting everyday too.
Big Hugz Jeff!!! Hope you begin to feel a little better soon. (Oh and I love the poop references! LOL). I have Severe ADHD and am Autistic so am familiar with the whole 'invisible illness' perceptions from others. Super awesome to see you openly talking about it!!! I'm working on the DeskPi Super6C as well too, so if there's any grunt work you need doing in the meantime just let me know. Also if you like visiting labs, if you're ever in the UK I'm a part-time DPhil Clinical Medicine student at Oxford in the Pathogen Dynamics Group working on COVID-19 and pandemic response. Could potentially get you a tour of the Big Data Institute as it is today (or the new Pandemic Sciences Institute we're just forming) if you're ever over this side of the pond, or VMware HQ if you're ever in / around San Fran/Palo Alto. We've got a v.large cluster that's probably a little more powerful than your Raspberry Pi clusters... put it this way, it provides the heating for the building! 8o) Stay positive and get well soon mate.

You have a great channel and you seem like a great person, Jeff (don't know about that red shirt guy though). Please stay healthy and safe, and don't skip on the family time!
Red Shirt Jeff is just out there living his best life. 🤣
@@canwenot573 Hope he doesn't destroy everything in the mean time 😶
People oftentimes tend to forget, that their favorite RUclips Creators are all humans as well - humans with their own problems outside of RUclips.
Get well soon, really appreciate what you create.
Thank you for all your videos! Praying for your return to health.
Crohn's gang reporting in. Remission is close bros WAGMI
Sending healing thoughts your way.
@@smileyguyz sadly, people like myself are unable to read the room. But, thanks for trying.
As someone who suffers from an invisible disability, I feel this in my core. Take care of yourself and be as well as you can. Hug your family tight.
I have really enjoyed your content, and i hope things get better for you soon. Get well soon jeff.
Sorry to hear that you are suffering from this. Hope you recover soon.
Good luck dude, prioritize fams. We'll be around
I don't know how I could sustain myself for as long as you have. I've lost so much mass, i think i would die if it went on that long.
Ever since my brother got ulcerative colitis a year ago, I keep on finding out all my favorite creators have it
I can only agree with all of you.
@@fg3ify Also last year I found out I can get severe inflammation inside my gums, lips, and tongue... those ain't fun to remove either ;)
If it takes a week longer, or a month longer or however much time you need, please take it for you! I'll start my first real job in October, and I'm looking forward to supporting you on patreon, no matter how many videos you get done. Giving you a virtual hug mate ☺
Aww, thanks!
Don't worry about us, mate. We'll be here, patiently waiting for the next video to grace our feeds, whether it takes a week, a month, or even a year. Take care of yourself first. A happy and healthy Jeff is the best Jeff. Even if you have to go radio-silent for a bit, we've got your back, my guy. Wishing you the best!!
I've also got Crohns Disease sir.. . and amazing you are so open with having an ostomy!
i always thought about 'being open' but just feel like people dont understand..
Death knocked on the door a few times... I absolutely know what you are feeling..
Keep your head up Humira has worked wonders for me over past few years
My Dad really suffered with Crohn's. I know exactly what you're going through and you're doing an amazing job highlighting this debilitating disease and the impact it has on people's lives such as yours. Thank you for all your awesome work. I've learnt so much from you.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks for the great videos Jeff. I learn a lot and have started playing around with Raspberry Pis based on some of the things you've shown me.
Currently in a flare up with Ulcerative Colitis and seeing this and hearing you talk about all this made my week a little better. Thanks
UC sufferers should smoke weed
I feel you man. Crohns past 30 years, colon cancer, needed to remove my colon during height of covid. Luckily I did not need to have an ostomy but was primary caregiver for my ex who had one for 7 years.
Keep your head up, you are not alone.
Hi Jeff, My wife was also diagnosed with Crohn's disease, so I totally understand what you are going through. Like many others said in the comments before me, health/family comes first. Hope you get better soon, and they find the correct medication (cocktail)to calm things down. Take it easy!
Take the time you need. No one here will unsubscribe for that reason. Hope you will get better and your M.Crohn will stabilize. Greetings from Germany. 💐
Stay strong budd. Greatly appreciate 🙏🏼 your channel/ content!
Fellow Crohnie here going on 17 years. The amount of quality content you put out has always impressed me, but hearing you're doing it while also raising a family AND dealing with crohn's? That is simply incredible!
Fingers crossed this flare passes quickly and you get some lasting remission on the other side!
Thank you, and hopefully you're in remission as well!
It saddens me to see you like this Jeff. I hope that you'll be feeling better soon and that the Chrohn inflammations keep away a long time.
Chin Up!
Jeff- My mom has struggled with Crohns for years, before they even knew what it was. Totally understand your struggle, and I hope you get it under control!
One of my best buds is graduating from engineering school this year with a very similar situation. He’s a major source of inspiration for myself and those around him. You and your wife are some hecking strong folks, I wish you the very best! Also- it seems clear that all of us subscribers are here to stay for whatever you need 🙏.
I have ulcerative colitis and wish you the best. Sometimes these autoimmune disease are really hard.
As a Type 1 Diabetic, I concur: Autoimmune diseases suck.
Thanks for the contents, take care as well.
hope you get well!!
Get well soon, appreciate your work.
We love you Jeff 💖
We (the audience) always come second to your health (and family)
Though considering how hot it is here seeing you under all those blankets made me feel rather warm
Oh man i wish you the best for the future!
I really hope you get well soon. I imagine how difficult it must be. Keep up the faith. Good thing you have someone on your side to help, these heroes called wives. All the best. We’ll be here when you’re better. Don’t worry. Keep being awesome.

Sorry to hear that man, I've worked with a lot of Crohn's patients in my Specialty Pharmacy days and it can be debilitating. Here's hopin you get better soon, get all the rest you need!
Mad respect to you, Jeff! I don't know how you manage crohn's (tempted to make a crond joke) and everything else... it's inspirational. I hope you start feeling better soon and we'll still be around when you have the health and time to get us back in front of the screen.

Jeff, Please feel better soon.
So much love to you Jeff. You’re in my thoughts! Thanks for all you do.
Jeff, you have my sympathy. I have to deal with recurring, open wounds on my lower legs. Ive dealt with this for 15 years. I'm not comparing it to your problem, I am just saying I know what it's like. I used to spend up to 12 hours a day on y feet working on electronics in y shop. These days, I can only spend a few hours standing, and I haven't been inn my shop for several years. You are in my prayers.
I’m sorry Jeff! Let me know how I can help!
Think you, sir Tim! I may ping you separately :)
@@JeffGeerling certainly! Whatever you need!
I just found your channel and already appreciate the information you share in such an easy manner. Thank you!
@@JeffGeerlingsurgery was yesterday, but there’s a dressing where first stoma was, so I’ve no idea what it’s like yet!
@@Shonkyretro Good luck! Don't get too freaked out the first time you look at it! Hopefully it heals up nicely (and fast!)
As another with Crohns, I feel you. Infliximab and other meds help a little but it's still a struggle. Keep your head up.
Good choice, prioritize your health! And get well soon ❤️
Jeff - I have only started watching your channel this year but you are what RUclips needs! I learn so much from everyone of your videos. Were not going anywhere, take your time and get healed up. I have a whole archive of your videos to watch so Ill keep that algo busy!

I’ve had Ulcerative Colitis for years . And NO, they don’t want CURES . They want to give me CHEMO Drugs that just make it even worse lol. Welcome to the shit show right ???
Jeff, thank you for telling us! I will add you to my prayers. Dan and I still recall fondly that time you, he, Matt & Jeffrey all shared a hotel room in Boston. (Lucky... Hoping you all the best. Get well!
I have ulcerative colitis. Stay strong brother. You got this. Your doing the right thing. Focus on health and family.

I consider myself really lucky that my Crohns is still being kept under control, five years after diagnosis.
You're an inspiration to us all.
Stay positive and get well soon mate.
I have an invisible illness. CRPS. I've lost everything to it. Everything... I'm sorry for your struggles. We signed up for the hard class! Hang in there. Chronic Illness is a lonely and devastating path. People are far from nice about it! Highest blessings!
Sorry to be late to this, but you're in my thoughts and prayers man! Thanks for being such a huge inspiration and positive voice in the tech community. I doubt it, but let me know if there's a way I can help.
