1. Sing out loud and clear. 2. Do add lips. (Sing in your in a different style or your own style.) 3. Take your time. 4. Use different voice colors. (Sing higher or lower, Sing a different pitch.) 5. Live through the story. (Or Song) 6. Be vulnerable. (Act vulnerable, don't actually be vulnerable.) 7. Have fun!
I have been told by several musicians that a singing teacher can't help you sing better. I am certain that just this one video will make me better. Stumbled across this video 2 years later and am even more convinced of the value of these great tips.
Thank you so much, Freya!!! You're wonderful. I'm getting ready for 2 solo performances--one that is classical and then one that is a week later that is more Cabaret/standard/contemporary songs with a small group I work with. Different use of my voice and of performing. I need this feedback and you give such great advice. Listening now to you "conquering your stage fright" webinar!!
You are Awesome madam! Thanks a Ton for posting such relevant Stuff...Its so nice of you that you share all your priceless experiences that you learnt over years to all.Keep going mam! May God bless you! Take care
Wonderful. I especially love your tip about how to deal with the band/orchestra etc. Usually when I have this experience I just go to pieces. Luckily I haven't really had to do that in public. But if I just do my thing and let them adapt to me, - which I think I can infer might happen, then it will go better. I actually struggle with backing music/accompaniment. I've just signed up a teacher for this now and god I hope it works but maybe I will try to work on this attitude too. Thanks again.
This remind me about 2 months ago i was accidentaly told by my friends to singing on the stage (im an audience too that time), then, the guitarist and pianist doesnt know most of the song i wanna sing "broken vow, unchained melody, all by myself" but My heart will go on...i put all my power on it, although i was fail on the high note (i didnt warm up because they didnt notice me to go sing before), i think all my friends like it
Im really glad for your tip about not having to be perfect. Im always so concerned about making mistakes, people laughing at me and not liking my voice, and Im kind of like 'not gonna show my voice to anyone until its perfect in range and technic' - but I know even the best singers, like Celine Dion, have vocal flaws, technic that can be improved. Another thing is, I always get so nervous when Im about to sing in front of someone, that Im not able to breath right. Its like I cant breath in the way I usually can. Theres no space for the air. This is very sad, because I know that Ive come a long way - still having a long way to go though - with my singing and technics, but I cant show it, because they dont seem to work when I get nervous :S How can I get through this problem? :S
Wow, thank you so much for this video! This was really helpful, because I'm trying to develope to sing more. Really enjoy these videos, subscribed for life, and I'll definitly follow you from now! 😄
I don't like that either. Ever since I took a risk (didn't think it was much a risk at the time), I have been seeing people in my church who just stay where they're comfortable, and while they may not have a reason to sing the way I can, I still shamefully cringe during the service when I hear people singing high with bad technique. Every now and then, the song leader will let the rest take over while he coughs or something because it's difficult. So, what I'm saying is I CAN RELATE.
Bhavya Jain I'm guessing your problem "pun intended" is the high notes where she sings ( no weight on my shoulders)/and really all the high notes your problem once again pun intended is your larynx is probably positioned too high cause most inexperienced singers or even experienced ones position the larynx too high causing they're voice to have a sudden stop on a certain note so instead of pushing harder to get it right relax start on a lower note you can hit easy and work your way up make sure your throat is relaxed and just go up note by note
Thanks for your tips. The only issues I have with your description is . . . A lot of the 'additional' stuff can sound just like ego to me, and could detract from the song itself. It may appear as unnecessary showboating. Also, the additional stuff you add wasn't written in the song by the composer and may be deemed disrespectful to the original artist. Any song you sing will include your own personality, sure . . . but when your personality is deemed more important than conveying the song, you've gone too far IMHO.

It is more important to be vulnerable and connect than to be perfect. Best advice!
