  • Was a freezing cold day. Woke up to -29 F. By the time we went riding it heated up a little but still was a frigid trail ride. Should be back to boondocking tomorrow.

How is riding with the 6D helmet? I am heading out to West Yellowstone in a couple weeks and was thinking of bringing my 6D but not sure if it will be too cold or not. Did you have to add anything to your helmet to make the air not flow through? Thanks

Can’t believe you found the video. I looked for information for like a month and couldn’t find hardly anyone else doing it either. Anyways, trail riding with no balaclava sucks. Crazy amount of airflow which is awesome for moto but freezing for snowmobiling. So I wear a klim arctic balaclava on the trails with the built in breath box and that works like a charm. Just as good as my old 509. It did add a bit of thickness so I actually ordered a new liner for the helmet that was a size bigger and and cheek pads that were thinner. Honestly ideal. Super comfy and then for moto I swap everything back. Now off trail is where I love it. As soon as I get off trail I rip my balaclava off. No more sweaty head, when I’m riding hard my 509 would almost get wet where this thing is ideal. Overall, backcountry-11/10 trails 7/10 and sometimes I’ll still wear my 509 on cold days of only trail ridding.

Depends what kind of riding, if you’re just trail touring, you’ll probably be fine. If you’re a snowmobiler you’ll definitely want to bring your own gear. Rental gear is always pretty sparse. If you have a snowmobile helmet bring that. The ones they provide are just face shields and look pretty terrible for any fast trail riding. If you’re riding off trail, all the rental avalanche gear provided is top notch.

@@SallyBallz92 Sweet! You will thank yourself for bringing your own helmet when you see what they hand out. Riding out here is one of the most beautiful places. I’m actually out again this year right now. If I could stay out here forever I probably would.
