my parents are getting this for Christmas. I’m a drummer my self and had to use my gaming headset , they’re noise cancelling but didn’t really work, im 15 and this will really help me a lot , this video cracked me up too , amazing review, im so excited to use this
@@jimgriffin3904 just a normal acoustic setup, I got them to practice with songs and tracks and I can barely here my snare and I’m worried they might make bad habits , will I get used to them?
They sounded great. As soon as I took my hands off the headphones everything in the main room went quiet. I couldn't hear anyone talking. When the engineer did a sound check for my kit, it was bright, really bright. He added tone, and it was very clear. There was a little change when he hit the record button, but the rest of the band couldn't hear the change. They had different headphones like AKG and audeze. And Audeze are good headphones and expensive but they don't compare to these. I remember playing back in the 80's during the big hair days twirling and banging my head; well I did that during my studio time and these head phones don't fall off, I tried to make them fall off and they didn't move a millimeter, no more headband for me. I say to all the drummers out there. I have over 35 years exp playing the drums and these head phone have awesome sound and shut out outer noise and best of all these are headphones for all drummers no 2nd guess about it. Thank you Vic Firth.
That's awesome!! I'm glad to know that I'm sending people in the right direction as far as these go, especially being validated by someone with your level of experience! Thank you!
Just bought mine today. Spent about 30 minutes going through headphones. Plus you did not mention you don't have to use a head band to keep them in the same place cause they are snug so tight. Going to the studio to record tomorrow and put them through the test.
I just got back from touring and I used them during gigs, still worked awesome, but my ear lobes kind of hurt after 3 months 2hrs a night.. LOL My only suggestion is the outside and inside where the padding meet was pinching my lobes, maybe the next version make the inner section 1/2" longer and width 1/4" wider before the padding starts. maybe I got big ears..lol...but still the best on the market. We played 10 shows in Florida, I have long black and one great thing no sweat got into my ears and the padding stayed dry. I was soaking wet and the headphone stayed completely dry throughout the whole leg of the tour. I bought three more case I lose one or roadies step on them.... I love them
That's a good point about the padding size. I wonder if others have had this issue. That's great to hear the worked out great on tour otherwise. And the fact they're snug enough to not get sweat inside the phones is a good point I didn't think about either.
I kinda thought about buying the slightly more expensive red ones that are Wireless. But.. I've read that the charge port bleeds in sound, so maybe this is my best buy anyways.. cheaper and possibly better for live practicing in a closed setting.
10:45 awesome review, I have been wearing in ear KZS but with click and the band and drum mix it is really playing it’s toll on my ears the sound is punchy and good. I have ordered a pair and will receive them soon through Amazon but I am a bit concerned I am going to loose that punchy sound with these ,
Just a funny thing.. I got them recently and wore them as you - with the cable on the right. But then I played some channel tests and it turned out that its meant to be actually the opposite way :D also on the official product spotlight they showed them the ,,left way". Nevertheless I found the the cable on the right side more comfortable. 🤔
I more recently found out that the left was the correct side when something sounded slightly off while I was checking a mix. Oh well. I make a note of it now. It is a very odd thing to have a chord on the left side when most things in general are right sided.

Nice review, thanks, enjoyed it a lot. Would you say the isolation is comparable to regular hearing protection? I used to practice with AKG K271, but there is too much bleed for me these days.
I'd say they are close to hearing protection headphones as far as isolation. I sure as hell can't hear my bandmates talking when the room is quiet and I have them on.
I'm not a drummer - so would these headphones allow me to mix a live video in a very loud room? I have been using Beyer DT770s (80ohm) and they aren't cutting it - no enough isolation.
I'm not sure how loud the room you are working in is, but when I practice with either a band or tracks, I can hear all the mic'd and mixed instruments as well as my mic'd and mixed drums more than I can hear my drumset, and I mostly play extreme metal and hit fairly hard so I'm pretty loud lol. My headphones aren't turned up very loud so I don't damage my hearing, but I can hear everything clearly, including clicks, guitars, bass, vocals, etc., without having to compete with my drumset. When I play with them on and then take them off to do a quick comparison, my drumset itself is immensely louder than what's coming through my headphones, including outside noise. Every other pair of headphones I used before I had to wear ear protection because I had to turn them up to compete with the room, but these work great for me. They most likely will work for you, they definitely isolate well at -25dB. The 770s probably weren't designed for isolation, and in a normal setting I'm sure the Vic Firth maybe don't sound as good as your 770s, but they'll definitely give you good isolation.
Hi, may I ask: How’s the durability of this model? Cause I’ve bought several DB22 model and the iron parts on both sides just kept being pulled off and slashes my head
I have one of those but I don’t really use it since for some reason the cushions on the right side keeps falling off and the right side also have trouble blocking the noise
Hi Jim, Merry Christmas! haha I wanted to ask you, how is the sound of the drums using this headset? I wonder because I have some headphones (which are not suitable for that, by the way) that make the drums sound like trash cans, or the crashes disappear. I had a shure se535, but burned one side and it's not worth tidying up, I have a shure 750dj too but falls in the case above, besides leaving the drums with a horrible sound does not isolate well, and many others. I have the opportunity to buy one of these but wanted your opinion. Thanks!
Thank you and a late Merry Christmas to you! I hope I'm not too late in my response. I would say the sound is going to be a bit different due to the fact that they sit more snug on your head. They don't make the drums sound like trash cans in my opinion, but they aren't going to sound like a $1000 pair of high end headphones, since almost all the sound travels directly to your ears and not the rest of the room. So you'll probably get a bit more of the low end in your mix as well, but they generally don't make the mix ultra muddy. They do a pretty good job of having everything cut through without knocking things out. I generally hear my cymbals well and clearly along with my kicks, snare and toms. I've been pretty happy with mine over the last 6 or 7 months.
@@jimgriffin3904 thanks Jim! my sh2 arrived these days, I really liked them, they don't really sound like more expensive headphones but they are very good in the proposal. I appreciate the consideration in replying, thank you!
That's a good question. I haven't actually tested that out. They will definitely isolate your noisy neighbors out, but as far as cinema quality, I'm not exactly sure. You wouldn't need to crank them really loud since they snug up nicely and are super dense, but that's an experiment I should try out.
They're going to sound decent, especially for blocking out outside noise and good low end response, but they're not going to sound like a super high end set of headphones. The good part is you don't have to crank the volume up in your headphones.
Hey man, how are you? Anyway, I’m considering to get one of these and I have a doubt. Can I plug this headphone in my phone and hear music while I’m playing?
You don't need a headphone amp to use them. Since I send out individual mixes to myself and my bandmates' headphones while recording, I use a headphone amp for that purpose.
