I teach my techniques on Patreon, where I have over 150, full length, video tutorials: patreon.com/TheDevonArtist
And if you would like to learn more about the pen and wash techniques that I use and teach, this video is a good one to watch next: bit.ly/3tGludd

Thanks so much for your reply. Even though a CP is hard on pen nibs, the results, in terms of texture, are wonderful. Thanks again, glad to have discovered your RUclips channel.

Nice to watch shading exercises followed by application of each technique on an actual work in progress. Seeing the reference image during each work in progress is always really helpful. Would love to have seen the pieces in this video with at least some watercoror applied after inking, or some example pieces thereof.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful expertise.

Glad it was helpful Stephanie and thank you for your kind comment.
I do have other videos regarding the pen & wash technique if it's helpful to you. ruclips.net/p/PLKn1cBFaLRAC8mN7fvN6bbqhmy-5mC7k4

I usually use the Pigma Micron pens because they are available everywhere here in Canada and often
on sale. However they have a pronounced ridge above the nib that can dig into your finger. The Staedtler Pigment Liners have less of a ridge and so are more comfortable to use so might be worth hunting down if this is problem.

I've recently bought a set of those pens Susan, very nice as well! I may even look for the Staedtler one's for an addition for my Christmas Shopping list later this year.😉

My cross hatching, in the end, almost always gets "sloppy". Will keep practicing. Thank you!

Great video. I’d love to know what paper you use for your pen and ink work. If it varies according to subject, I’d like to know what paper you use in this video. Thanks.

Hi Mary, I'm using a cold pressed 140lb paper here called Bockingford. It's not a cotton paper but more chemical pulp, but I love it. I very often use a CP paper in case I decide to add watercolour to the painting. 😊
