    Short answer? Yes. I wish that Jackson would bring back the Professional and Performer series back. The 90s models had a lot of great quality made into them. My favorite's are the PS4, The DR, and Kelly models

    • @TheBentNote
      @TheBentNote  4 месяца назад +1

      I really want to snag one of the performers from that era, I always keep an eye out for any deals. They seem so great. Especially the Kelly models, it feels like Jackson really neglects that shape, and the ones from 90s were all over the place for dirt cheap once upon a time.

      @@TheBentNote that’s because Jackson didn’t realize the quality of The Performer and the Professional series are incredibly great. At the time, they were a affordable upper mid tier guitars from 1992 all the way up to 2001 that were closer to The higher end American ones. They basically stopped because they were losing money that way and stopped cuz they realized, “fuck that, we are going to utilize these for our American models, we ain’t gonna give you great guitars for affordable prices!” Come on son!

    I bought a dxmg around 2010. Do you have trouble keeping it in tune especially after using the bar? Idk of I should switch the bridge. Any pointers to keep it in tune?

    • @TheBentNote
      @TheBentNote  8 дней назад

      @@cacaloca5434 so I find that Jackson’s licensed Floyd’s during that time period to be hit or miss in terms of stability. The DXMG has no issues, but my older DK2 from 2008 always had issues, so here’s my suggestions:
      Step 1: definitely do a total set up, and confirm bridge is set up best to your ability, which I assume you already have better doesn’t hurt!
      Step 2: check to make sure the blocks at the nut are holding! For whatever reason, Jackson import nuts just seem easier to strip so the blocks could potentially be not clamping down 100 percent (the case in my older DK2, over tightened it one too many times, causes issues)
      Step 3: the knife edge of the bridge on these bridges seem to be worse than official Floyd’s or ones with harder steel, or they just dull easier on the posts. I’ve seen some where you’ll FEEL it slip on the post, check that specifically (listen closely to the trem when you pull up or dive and see if it clicks or slips or is anything else besides completely smooth) if it is, I recommend using lube on the post where the knife edge meets the post, if that doesn’t correct it, you might have to consider replacing the posts, but more than likely the knife edge could be marred or imperfect and just might need to be replaced.
      The bridges aren’t really all that expensive to replace if you want to keep it stock! But there are affordable newer options as well that should fit as drop in replacements, but I definitely recommend trying any cheaper choices first to see what might fix it!
      Apologies if this felt long, but I hope I helped a bit! Let me know how it goes, i would love to hear back, I could try doing a video on Jackson bridges down the road

      @@TheBentNote Thanks for the response. I think I did go a bit tight on the nut lockers in the past. I may need to buy some new ones. I will try your other tips. Any issues with your knobs going loose? My tone knob popped off. Not sure if I should super glue it back on or what lol

    • @TheBentNote
      @TheBentNote  7 дней назад

      @@cacaloca5434 I never try to involve glue whenever possible cause you don’t want to accidentally gum up the put, but two things to check with that! If it’s one of the metal knobs, check to see if it has a screw on the side that you can use to tighten it (which if it does, I’m sure you already tried that lol)
      The next thing (which I don’t always recommend just cause you could potentially damage it, so do so at your own risk) but take the knob off, and take a flat head screw driver and place it into the slot on the top of the switch’s shaft, and SLIGHTLY expand it out with some minor prying, this’ll help the knob stay put. (Again tho, try at your own risk! But I’ve never had issues with the method)
      And of course, you can always buy new knobs that you can tighten manually, and never too crazy expensive if you get one off of Amazon, but just a couple suggestions that hopefully help! :)

      @@TheBentNote lol I didnt even realize the screw on the know. I got my guitar to stay in much better tune now. Not perfect, but I put a capo on the strings on the headstock before the locking nuts, tuned flat. That get the strings to sharpen a bit. Then locked the nuts. And fine tuned. Seems like they need down pressure before being locked.

    I've got one of these dxmg's, bought it used back in 2013. Serial# decoder says it was mij in '98 or '08. From my research, I'm guessing mine is from '08. I've put a SD Dimebucker at the bridge, sounds punchy and tight. I've never felt the need to swap the JT580 bridge (not yet, at least). I also own a Jackson USA RR1 and, as far as playability, I'd say they're on par. If you can find a dxmg for $500 or less, I'd grab it! Or better yet, let me know about it, I'd like a back up, lol!

    • @TheBentNote
      @TheBentNote  6 месяцев назад +1

      Haha, they used to be so much cheaper that buying multiples should have been a no brainer! People def sleep on them
      The SD dimebucker was actually in one of my first Jackson dinkys wayyyyy back in ‘08! Love that pickup to death.
      It’s strange, I’ve both had really rough JT580s, and other ones that are just as good as an Ibanez Edge pro or OFR bridge. Never swapped any of them, I still think they’re great bridges, but probably not as durable if they’re neglected or abused in too rough a manner.
      I have a MIJ RR24 that I’ve been really needing to do a video on, I miss old Jackson imports but they really did feel just as good as the USA stuff, and not to knock the newer Indonesian stuff… they just don’t feel the same.
      I’ll be on the look out for more dirt cheap dinkys tho! We gotta snag all the deal ones before more people catch on haha

      @shakebabyhitler 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheBentNoteLove the Dimebucker so much, I've got them in 3 of my guitars (including the RR1 mentioned above).
      I haven't had any trouble with the JT580 in this guitar. Opened it all up recently and definitely not enough wear to justify the cost of upgrading with an OFR. Which is funny, because I also have a Dean ML with a FR Special, bought it new just a few years ago and it's already pretty beat up, lol!
      And you're right, we should keep our mouths shut about the dxmg, before they get even more scarce!

      @@TheBentNote Which is why I'm curious that the JT580 bridge isn't more famous. For a licensed bridge, it's really a great piece of gear.
      I've abused that bridge so much in the dxmg that I warped the holes for the bridge posts (basswood's pretty soft). Redrilled and filled with hard maple dowels , and then put in new posts. But the bridge's knife edges? They were fine, lol!

      @TheBentNote  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@shakebabyhitler that’s a great point, I gotta look into it, because I believe Jackson was using their own bridges on the older USA stuff too, maybe the JT580s were built to the same spec. Cause the USA seemed to be just as good until they started putting OFRs on them

    • @TheBentNote
      @TheBentNote  10 месяцев назад

      Is both the secret third option? Lol jk! But that’s a great question!
      So if I had the personal pick, and they both similar condition, I would probably pick the R3 just because it’s a bit older and I have an affinity towards 90s Jackson’s because I’m a 1990s lad.
      Although the DXMG is a solid choice, if it’s the ones with the EMG passives, I’m not as fond of as the Jackson brand pickups.
      They SHOULD have similar tremolos? I believe..? Although I reckon the DXMG trem might have fared better since it’s younger.
      Plus I’m assuming the R3 is using dot inlays over the sharfins if looks matter, that’s another selling point for the DXMG.
      I would still go for the R3 cause of it being older and I have a thing for “old guitars.” It’s really hard to beat at 200 bucks!
