I'm know I'm late to the party, but here I am commenting on this a year late. I'm a Home Fry who found Jelly Roll recently. I've never heard anyone quite like him, and I find him extremely relatable. We all have moments. It might not be drug or alcohol- related for some people, but a lot of times it is, and you would never know it. Either way, it's always something. He's so genuine. We are all happy on the surface sometimes, but then again, life is also happening to us behind the scenes at the same time. This song was spellbinding for me. A frozen-in-time kind of thing. Jelly just released a new song on Friday called "Sober" He's doing a whole album of these style songs and Sober is the first release off it is. It's amazing. He speaks from the heart and alot of us can identify with him.
His songs are about his life. I think this was written when he broke up with Bunny a couple of years ago (they are married now) . Last 4 years have been rough for Jelly, dealing with both parents health issues,mom dying and best friend also getting killed. The album that this song came from Therapy Sessions is excellent. He mixes his rap and singing on some songs as usual but then on some it’s singing or rap on others.

The honesty in his lyrics has opened my perspective on addiction and brought compassion to my heart for those stuck in a horrible place! This song is easily one of his best. Some might say it’s a bit more… “selloutty”, I guess. It is very popular, but for a very good reason. This brings that sound that I do wish we had more of right. The soulful singing with the barebones arrangements.
