      “Once you argue for your limitations, they’re yours!” (Richard Bach)
      Same concept: don’t overthink technical issues, otherwise you dig them deeper.
      I wish I could avoid it...
      I solved the putting yips a couple of years ago with the pencil grip, now they’re back in chipping and I felt lost.
      This morning I started doing the practice swing just with the trail hand, in order to better feel the free movement: it seemed to work, but I have to test it under pressure.

    Have not hit a ball in months due to lookdown. i use a small green area near me to practise my swing. It used to look like a ploughed field when i finished. Since i started studying with Marcus i now leave a neat line of divot just like you see the pros doing on the practise ground. It feels wonderful . Hope i am not building up too much hope for success. Brilliant as usual Marcus.

    This is great. I have always had a great practice swing. Great rhythm, about 1º-2º in-to-out. And then I would "hit" at the ball and come over the top about 5º or even up to 10º!! And it was really a mental thing. I would "get away with it" and could even get around the course with some good scores, leaning HEAVILY on a decent short game. But I never hit the ball solidly the way I knew I should. My pro did some similar drills with me. It's taken some work, and it's still going on - but massive improvement. Better strike. Closer to a zeroed path. Even some little tight draws in there! I'm still fighting the over-the-top move sometimes, but just knowing that I COULD hit the ball solid and pure and with a good path was huge. This is really quality coaching.

    I sure can relate. while being a mid 80's to low 90's player I would have bouts of hitting good shots then out of the blue a big shank to the right as if the club face is hanging wide open. The last 4 months have been on you tube trying to find that swing that compresses the ball as is consistent only to find myself worse off than before. In fact alot worse. To the point where I am in this same position of calling it quits. Yet a part of me just wants to start striking it pure. Then I found your site. How does one like myself in this same mental state get back into the groove so to speak to play better golf and enjoy it. help.

    I've developed the full swing yips. It started with the driver. I could get things under control mid round by teeing off with my 3-wood for a few holes. But over the past two years its been getting worse. Its now spreading to my irons as well.
    It's difficult to explain to people, it's like a lightning bolt strikes you right before impact, the 50 yards right, 50 yard pull hook left.
    It's not anything you can compensate for obviously. But like him, it makes me want to quit the game. I was a high school all state and played in college, now I'm starting to struggle to break 90. Its awful.

    What is the definition of the "yips"? Not feeling confident through the swing or just a bad shot?

    • @GRFGolf
      @GRFGolf  3 года назад +1

      It's an involuntary response causing what may be considered a bad shot in relation to the intention of the shot. As it's involuntary the movement it creates isn't recognisable so the player experiences a loss of control. This manifests itself and starts to become a part of the player's identity and a characteristic of their movement they 'try' to combat but the issue tends to worsen as it becomes ever so more conscious over time. It's ruined many a tour player's career and some people live their whole life 'battling' the yips. It can be resolved easily but this isn't a generic 'cure' as they don't exist. It may work for some and not others. Worth a try though even if you don't have the yips. It's great for developing confidence and flow.
