- The start of Cody Rhodes championship reign has not been the smoothest to say the least. There has been nothing that you can really sink your teeth in and the first two competitors sent his way have felt like random filler feuds until The Rock shows up again. It feels like uninspired TV and Cody Rhodes doesn't feel like the most important thing on his own show. SmackDown has taken a back seat and need something big out of Cody's championship reign to really bring it back to its A+ status. This is not to put blame on Cody Rhodes because he is just dealing with the cards he was dealt, but it's a real shame that his title reign feels completely directionless at the moment.

I think the problem with booking Cody at the moment is, that we all gonna know, that he won’t lose his title till the Rock comes back. That’s why we won’t get any big feuds for Cody, because we all know deep inside that he will win them anyways

Ever since Michael Cole coined the phrase "Finish The Story" after Cody won the 2023 Royal Rumble, my feeling was he was going to be one of those wrestlers who has way more value in the chase than as champion. I was one of the people saying before Wrestlemania 39 that the worst thing for Cody in the long run would be to beat Roman & be WWE Champion. Now after a year and a half of the chase with the one of the company's hottest storylines in decades paying off with Cody winning & Finishing the Story, it was more important than ever to have something immediately for him that won't allow him to get stale by just having thrown together title matches. That's all he's in right now & he's still over but there's a slow burn of fans getting bored & if you keep it up Cody will turn into Super Cena & Shield Roman getting split reactions. I've been watching wrestling long enough to remember when both Cena and Roman were beloved by the fans until they weren't and the fans split. To think it can't happen to Cody too is incredibly naive on the part of WWE Creative.
I think the problem right now is that his reign was during the draft and Saudi. Wwe was still trying to figure out the roster during the draft and Saudi wants a big match which is why ur getting Cody vs Logan. But after that wwe definitely needs to switch it up and make his reign more interesting

I think the Logan feud was good but I feel like it should’ve lasted longer. I still feel like he needs more time but the thing if they’re gonna do that then they have to give him a feud with someone who actually poses a threat to his championship and better storylines instead of what we’re getting. Because if you look at the Brock Lesnar feud. That look like a feud that would be for the championship. Looking back at it. That should’ve been his title run. I agree with you on everything in this video the problem is I don’t think WWE had it in their plans to have Cody as champion and it shows in the booking with these short feuds I think The Rock and Roman was supposed to happen Roman goes over then probably next year Roman vs Cody II at Mania 41 then since CM Punk got injured I think he originally was set to win the Royal Rumble and face Seth for the World Heavyweight Championship so they had to change plans then with the we want Cody movement started WWE shifted to Cody being set to face Roman instead of The Rock so I believe that’s why it’s a lack of top heels on SmackDown cuz they haven’t build any up in time for Cody cuz it wasn’t meant for Cody to be world champion they had to pivot into it

About the rock belt switch thing. About 10 years ago after the rock beat CM punk for the belt and he showed off the new one Cody came out and asked to hold the belt and the rock let him. They were kind of making things go full circle

The directionless is very obvious. Roman's first feud was with Jey and that had two matches with differing stipulations and promos to basically set up the entire Bloodline angle. Having Jey acknowledge him and becoming his right hand man. We could all tell it was leading to Jimmy eventually joining up as well as other members of the family. These one and done matches with Cody are already getting tiring. At least make the promos more engaging or something. Get the "story" going and what not.

Personally - i think face runs are usually boring because they are fair and usually respectful - is there a way face runs are entertaining on the level of heel runs. In my opinion the build up between LA Knight vs Roman was WAYY better then Roman vs Cody . LA Knight should be the one holding that title he literally is a MEGASTAR and even has the persona of a CHAMPION and it would be way better if we started this new ERA with the FASTEST GROWING WWE SUPERSTAR IN HISTORY instead of CODY it makes so much more sense! They need to turn Cody Heel and have that title stripped from him.

One, I don't disagree with most of your points but that 'use of father's name' criticism gets me. Roman Reigns was the most boring character until he used his family. Most people don't complain about that. Reigns got over when leaned heavily on the whole Samoan thing. Why is it a problem for others?

1. Because Reigns' family angle/story is an Actual STORY that has garnered mainstream media attention. Rhodes' story was a SYMPATHY ACT.
2. Reigns was already on top of the industry and a star, he just wanted to do things better and his own way. Reigns Decided that if he's going to change he's gotta raise other people up with him, and he DID . Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Jey , Jimmy, Solo , Tama .

My opinion: I think that Cody is a good wrestler with a great in ring ability and I disagree with people who say that he is boring. With that said, I don't think that he should have been the one to dethrone Roman Reigns. Roman is a legend, like him or not, and is probably one of the greatest and most epic wrestlers of all time. His title reign is historic and one of the greatest of all time. Cody is not and will never be close to that level of greatness.
That’s why I said solo should’ve worn the belt even if it was going to be like a month and a half or two he doesn’t have to go out there and have crazy matches.
Cody could’ve easily wanted it back at Bad Blood. You could’ve had Roman spear Cody and Solo. Roman could’ve caused him the title for wargames. Cody just needs to be booked with adversity not winning his matches perfectly. I thought solo was his opportunity to make his ring a lot better by having someone new. Cody Rhodes is emotionally exhausted with the bloodline. They should’ve played off of that with solo winning Cody having more on his plate to get his belt back and possibly team up with the person he beat for it

Cody was never "the guy". Cody entire run was based on winning the title because his father did not. The chase for the title had very little to do with Cody himself. TBH, the chase did not become interesting till Rock showed up and once Rock left it was the same old WWE. Newbies would have you believe this shit is as good as the Monday Night Wars. That's joke. I have nothing against Cody but he's not on a Rock, Austin, Flair, or Hogan level. Cody is a mediocre champ. Once Punk gets the title things might get spicy

Right now, his reign is about the matches. Later or soon, it will be about a good story. You could have both at different points in a reign. The Bloodline and Roman Reigns spoiled people, but it doesn't mean this short reign doesn't have potential.
The problem they have seem to be that Reigns and the Rock are busy, so all other matches has to be secondary to the coming feud. Still, I agree with you that they could have done more storywise. As for boring, I am not entirely sure. I have enjoyed his matches, but they are not very good storywise. As said, I believe that is because they dont want to overwrite anything before the main storyline picks up when they get the old guard back.
Time will tell. I am to busy being angry that Rhea Ripley isnt on my screen to really care.

Because it was meant to be the rock that roman defeats at wrestlemania 40, not cody.
Cody should have gone for the world title with seth, then after that reign he can start talking about the wwe title, which roman would have vacated due to an injury.
It has literally been not even 2 months into his reign. Come Summerslam/Post KOTR, the rivalry will be very interesting when the Wyatt 6 debut. That's going to be a revolutionary rivalry for him. Either that or he has a rivalry with Randy. Trust the process.

I havent been a fan even before he came back. Cody isnt the kind of Wrestler or character I like. I prefer heel Champions or at least someone with more edge to him. I'm not saying a 4 year run for anybody but Cody just isnt as entertaining to me as other superstars like Drew or Gunther.

I respect peoples opinions on Cody and his title reign, but I feel like any title reign no matter who it was, was always gonna feel lackluster after Roman's massive reign as champion. I personally am loving a lot of storylines in WWE atm, and I enjoy seeing Cody in the mix defending the title against Styles and Logan. However, I do think it's a bit ridiculous that fans are calling for Cody to lose the title already. People's minds might change when we get closer to summerslam

the problem with cody is that they already teased a cody vs rock match. that just shoehorn the audience to believe that this’ll be the “main quest”. This shit happened last year too, everyone seems to be in some sort of developing story while cody is stuck doing sidequests again. Also, his main quest with rock just tells everyone that he wont be dropping the belt to anyone. and if he does drop, that guy will just be a transitional champion. Because you know, its the rock. the most valuable belt has to be on the line for it.
also, its weird how the new bloodline is avoiding cody. like the only interaction was them and the champions locker room door 😭

Cody's reign as champion (as far as the King of the Ring PLE) has felt a bit stale, and has made him look weak as a champion. First of all Logan Paul literally did nothing to deserve a World championship not even a contenders match. Cody as WWE champ was literally in the position to say in the contract signing the ONLY way he'll sign is if Logan puts his title on the line. Huge missed opportunity even as it's been teased by the champion himself. So now here we are the WWE champion got pressed by a challenger who did nothing to deserve the spot and won't even put his title on the line as well? This whole storyline makes the U.S Title look irrelevant and the WWE champion look weak. This match is secondary to BOTH King and Queen ring finals (which I suppose some could argue that's the point as that's the name of the PLE) but seriously Damian Priest hold the secondary world championship yet seems like the stonger champion and he doesn't even have a match🤦🏽.
After summerslam (Roman should come back and help Cody beat solo) the first smackdown after, Randy turns on him & beats his ass laying the way for a good feud for a few months
Imo the real problem is hyping up Cody vs Rock literally the next day after Cody won the title. It makes for a rather predictable title reign as we all know Cody would retain at least until he faces Rock at maybe Summerslam or any of the big 4 PLEs. WWE booked themselves to a corner with that Cody-Rock segment. It also doesn't help that they have a general lack of main event level singles heels apart from maybe Gunther
Maybe WWE could do face vs face storylines a bit more and work on them like they do heel vs heel ones tbh. There's just way too few heels and this is kinda WWE's fault too for focusing too much on Roman.
They were teasing Bobby Lashley turning HEEL based on his interactions with Carmelo Hayes but Lashley got injured.

I do appreciate the video and your opinion but I disagree. With the Rock teasing a potential match with Cody he won’t be able to take part in any long term feud so they battle that by putting Cody with people who he could have high quality matches with 3/3 banger defenses so far.
We say “give it time” because obviously we have feuds like his feud with Randy happening hopefully a trade happens and someone like Gunther switches to Smackdown. He even has a new feud with Solo coming up. We forget Romans reign had 7 years worth of material to go off of? Feud with Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Brock Lesnar all people he has history with. Cody is not only building new feuds he’s also building layers and foundations that will play into his character later on down the road. Patience is key when creating something new.
