I love my Breitling and I have a Super Ocean 42. The built quality is phenomenal and I love their Anti Reflective coating. I don't mind the blue sheen and it's very well coated. A little sad that it's not as well loved as it should be. Nonetheless, my Breitling SO42 is a keeper ❤️
My favorite brand! That's a terrific looking piece. Built in a near medical grade facility, filtered air is swapped every 6 hours, controlled for temperature and humidity. Zero negs for my taste.
This has been one of my daily drivers for the past 7 years the strap is absolutely obliterated and falling apart, need to replace it, but the case is still immaculate even after smashing it into shit everyday in the warehouse. it keeps great time, i only adjust the time once every couple months if i wear it consistently for that long and its only off a couple minutes. I never think or worry about this piece. The DLC coating on the case is no joke as there is barely a surface scratch. If I had the Chrono version with the same dimensions it could be the only watch I would ever wear
I have a Titanium Chrono Avenger from back in the day. It shares the same DNA, and I think they are great looking watches, built for battle and highly functional. I vote 👍🏽 on the AR coating. Thanks for reviewing a watch that doesn’t get adequate appreciation.
A client gave me a TAG as a 'thank you' for my advice over the years, this back in 2001. Thankfully he gave me the receipt - circa £750 from Watches of Switzerland - (I didn't like it and was not into watches). I walked into their store in Knightsbridge and there I stayed for hours - fascinated and gobsmacked initially and then hooked. But I will never forget that it was the Breitling Avenger Titanium that I kept going back to. Paid an extra £1,000 to get one (hadn't spent more than £40 on a watch before) and the next day walked in and paid a further £250 as I had to get the Chrono Avenger. Was stolen in 2014 when I returned to South Africa and just in the last few months I have decided to get a 'luxury' watch again. Love the intro to German watches and have been looking at the usual suspects at the £5,000 and below mark. Long comment but my point is thus - I have realised I either buy the latest Chrono Avenger or one from 2021 back to 2001. The watch you could say has me by the balls! Great reviews on this chanel - very helpful albeit my one feedback is 'the man is hard to please!!
I have this watch and only a 6.5” wrist but I don’t even notice it on when I’m wearing it. I wear it when I paddle or swim. It’s bulletproof. I did swap the strap out for a Barton rubber strap which is more comfortable and better fitting.
breitling have quickly become one of my favorite brands. in the last few years they have been releasing hit after hit. saying that the only one i have in my collection is a late 80s aerospace and i love it.
I love Breitling especially their detailed dials . I have a prior generation Colt 41 and it’s perfect on my smaller 6.5 wrist. It is made very well and has all the Breitling characteristics in a smaller package. It was my first luxury watch purchase.
This one seems to have a "Victorinox-like" look-n-feel 🤔 (I.N.O.X Diver) I completely agree; Breitling typically has very busy dials but this one seems more "manageable" (if that makes sense). Thanks for sharing.
Definitely have a Navitimer on the must own list, just a matter of working out which one, and saving the pennies. The depreciation thing works for me as a pre-owned buyer. I still can't decide if I like the raised sections of the bezel though. Might pay to test the waters with a Revue Thommen chronograph first.
It's a beautiful diver and you're right. I've seen the same watch on eBay for less than $3K USD. Holding its value might be a concern for many but if I were to add this watch to my collection it would be for the purpose of resale. I'd hand it down to one of my sons. Great view.
My favourite watch in my collection is the Avenger 43 GMT with a white dial in stainless steel. The problem I have with the Blackbird reference is I just think it has such a limited use case in terms of wearability. Ie. What’s the outfit you wear with this everyday where it looks good? Unless you’re in fatigues or wear leather jacket & combats / ripped jeans I don’t see it looking cohesive with actual daily wear for most people. Of course, that might exactly be the idea… make a watch for a real niche of wearers. What do others think? Am I overthinking this? Just me?
Nice video! I have 2 Breitlings, a super ocean 44, yellow dial on a stainless bracelet a super ocean heritage 2 on the rubber with the clasp I really like them both!
Dont own a Breitling, but I sure wouldnt rule it out. They have some really cool looking models, and I dont care about resale values. I buy watches to keep, so its not a topic I really go into.
I think they are a very unique brand, great history in producing proffesional tool watches. They seem to hold their money ok ish in the UK ? I'm not a fan of the new b logo, prefer the wings logo. The new super ocean is a lovely looking watch ,and they do some nice designs. They used to be a bit if a grail watch for me, yet I've never got one ? I probably will at some point though, as they are making some really nice pieces lately. Great vid as always Peter.
Very nice watch - my only critique is the red box around the date box. I have the 44m Colt in Stainless Steel.... the 44m Breitling's wear smaller than their size. I have the same size wrist as you and, IMO, anyone with a medium size wrist (above 6.75 inches) can pull it off. The 44m Breitling with the Avenger case is the perfect size and looks absolutely spectacular on wrists 7 inches or larger.
Kind of random tangent, but I definitely think there is a fine line between “faux-tina” and simple tan colored lume. I would say the this is a good example of tan lume, especially since this isn’t really going for the nostalgia angle.
Good Video. This is the first Breitling that really flashes me. But there is still the problem that I got with Breitling, it's too big. Thank you for showing.
Looks a lovely piece, but, it's expensive with that movement. Not that I'm necessarily pro in-house. My favourite company is Sinn and they regulate Sellita for a fairer price.
Well Breitling watches usually are busy, that's kind of their hallmark. I like Breitling as a brand. As you said, from a watch enthusiast's standpoint you can look at their value retention or the lack thereof from both sides. After all the movement is a little underwhelming given the price. They dropped the wings on their later models I believe. Being a litte more stealthy, this particular model actually works! I love the strap by the way, being supplied with a dive watch, is the leather backing (salt)waterproof?
Hey Peter, This is a not complaint but a question, Why did you skip over the inner bezel 100 unit markers as well as the gallon/liters markings on the back? Those 2 things were actually what I was most interested in and wondered why the watch had them on it 😥 Other than that excellent vid and on a very interesting watch, thank you for show casing it!
This should sum it up for you Z H In relation to the inner bezel, it’s known as a Decimal Bezel which will complete the full rotation at the 100 (Marker) It’s far less common than the tachymetre, the decimal bezel divides the minute into 100 parts allowing for the decimal conversion of time. The decimal bezel is used in conjunction with the chronograph allowing you to measure and translate time into decimal values in a controlled environment. Great video, watching Pete McConvill has given me a appreciation of Breitling.
Good Video. This is the first Breitling that really flashes me. But there is still the problem that I got with Breitling, it's too big.
Thank you for showing.
My pleasure 👍
I really like breitling and will be on the hunt for one around Nov.
Funnily enough, it’s one of the first Breitling models I actually like. It’s the least gaudy model I’ve seen in a while.
It's a nice piece. Since its under 13mm I'm sure it feels great on the wrist.
I look forward to your videos now and you never disappoint! This watch looks mean!

I think it looks awesome, very different but quality at the same time.
It's an awesome watch. DLC coated legendary bezel and rider tabs....nothing else compares to it....
Thx Peter, I have a thing for Black watches so it hits me w an advantage straightaway. Just the overt subtlety is appealing. More black watches 😁
