I'm sure the video and instructions are very good, but I could tell from the first 20 seconds that the title is misleading. What you are showing is Hyper-V in the "Windows Server 2012 R2" operating system. "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2" is the name of a special operating system, separate from the Windows Server line of OSs. (The pure Hyper-V is just that, only a Hyper-V host without all the other Windows Server features)
The confusion is understandable since Microsoft themselves aren't really promoting it. (Microsoft Hyper-V Server is free, you just need licenses for the OSs running in the virtual machines)

The version of the Windows Server 2012 R2 has the Server Manager and you can change the computer name on local server of the Server Manger.

actually i am having basic knowledge on MCSA but not completed the MCSA certification, now i am interested to complete the certification on hyper-v 74-409 , so could you please suggest me whether it would be fine to complete the certification without giving MCSA for career path? or i should first complete MCSA first, please suggest

    Hi,
trying to create a VMware environment with Hyper-V 2012 Core(with 2 VMS WIN2012 DC and WIN2012 with Exchange) problem is the networking isnt going to well, as I am not sure how to create right network in VMWare which will allow access for both Hyper-V and the VM's inside it, without it running off my routers DHCP, cant i make it run off the DC's DHCP by creatings like a NAT or Host Only? with its own IP Subnet and getting it access the net off the VMWare?
    Hope that make sense.
    Thanks.

I am a newbie to virtual...still having a hard time deciding if i should start out learning Hyper-V or VMWare....everyone says VMWare and it will help me in career wise, but down the road, do you see Hyper-V taking over? I heard Hyper-V is limited in functionality vs. VMware....thing is i'm already building physical windows servers at work, so maybe Hyper-V is the way to go?

it really depends on your budget. VMware is very affordable, but if you are running a Windows shop I would looking into Hyper-v and take advantage of the Windows features.

***** well, i want to setup a home lab, so everything would be a free 60 day trial version on either vmware or hyper-v....which would be easier to setup and configure along with being fastest to get up and running? i have two dell T7400 workstations that my friend gave me from his work...they're high end workstations...320gig drive with 64gb memory on each server.

zcarenow If you want to get your feet wet, I would try doing vmware first. Easy to setup and I believe it's free, but the license will give you some perks. I can't remember what they are. before you head over and download the ISO make sure your T7400 is supported to run ESXi. Sometimes the NIC card is a problem and I'm assuming you don't want to spend any money on this and just use what you have for your lab. Converting the machine you have to hyper-v will be simple, but to take advantage of the services the machine has to be running a 64-bit CPU and has Hyper-threading. Hard drive space is great for ESXi because the OS is a very small footprint. Windows you have the OS and the hyper-v features install and then have your VMs.
