Did you hear that Hibari has the same accent as the fleet admiral (i.e., akainu/sakazuki). It's transparent in the Japanese characters/writing, but that bit is lost in translations. This has led people to think that Hibari might be related to Akainu, maybe even the daughter. Which is so interesting, cute, and funny because of her relationship with Coby. Edit: apparently, the only people with that accent in the series are hibari and akainu. Adds credibility to the "they're related" claims
The Hi in Hibari can mean fire or sun, right? Also no one mentions the possibility that Hibari just grew up in the same town as Akainu, sharing accents shouldn’t only mean blood relation.
Koby has the sweetest case of imposter syndrome ever, I hope it’s just a phase. Even if you don’t compare him physically from his first appearance, the character growth that Koby has experienced has been astounding. I believe he’s Oda’s representation of who Luffy and/or Ace could have been if they joined the Navy. Just like Luffy, Koby has a powerful mentor, a group of close friends and his status in SWORD gives him the ability to do whatever he needs to do to make sure that everyone is saved. Nobody dies on his watch, just like Luffy.
I don't think Koby is the marine version of Luffy or Ace. Koby is a sweet shy boy, and a bit clumsy, too; he is even scared to say his dream out loud. Ace is reckless yet polite, and Luffy is... well, Luffy. All three of them bring you distinctive vibes.
Kuzan never had any issue aligning himself with monsters as long as he believed he could get something out of it. He was not blind to the WG's horrors (he even specifically said to Smoker "I *never* thought the marines were the only way I could change things" or something to that effect. If he *never* thought they were the only solution but still accepted the horrors they committed for decades, it shows pretty well he's a "the end justify the means" kind of person. He only left the marines once the "end" wasn't possible anymore (as he failed to secure the position that could allow him to change things and Aka Inu of all people got it instead and presumably would keep it for a couple of decades). So I never had any issue believing that he was genuinely joining Teach because Kuzan is pretty fricking ruthless when it comes to getting what he wants. And sure he turns a blind eye to the horrors Teach commits but he did the same his entire career and as I pointed out, those horrors becoming too much is not why he left the marines, he left because he thought he could not use his position to enact change. So is Kuzan evil? Meh, his goals probably aren't evil, he's definitely trying to do some good whatever his plans are. And that probably means he will betray Blackbeard at some point but not because he was a spy, simply because as Blackbeard says, their alliance is one of convenience and therefore will end the moment it's not useful anymore. It's a Robin/Croc situation rather than a Drake or Rosinante situation basically. I like your idea of Kuzan having to choose his allegiance, but I do hope we get to find out exactly what his plans are before that happens. I also agree with you on Garp. I mean Garp's loyalty is to the marines, I think he genuinely believe that the marine protecting the common people is for the best. But if he can see a future in which Luffy destroys the WG but not the marines, he'd laugh and support his grandson. I don't think he's completely "fine" with Dragon though. I think they're ideologically different enough that they had a falling out. "it will be interesting to see how Oda justifies that" I mean... slaves?
@@CelesticCF I think he is trying to find out a meaning of justice. What is the "true" justice. He's been with the marines, now he wants to be with Pirates so he can compare the two. He might choose Luffy by the end.
That's a brilliant analysis. That's why his justice is the "lazy justice" it doesn't mean that it isn't there, he just takes it easy, goes along with whatever comes to his benefit as long as his slow and lazy walk towards justice is still in motion
@@Snoop_Dugg He pretty much has too. He may not like Blackbeard but he's still complicit in what he does. If he wants to find a better sense of justice, it's not gonna be with Blackbeard.
i love how in marineford, moria gets saved by absalom, while on fullalead he gets saved by perona. Despite all his efforts to discard crewmates and rely on zombies it was always his living crewmates that helped him when it mattered most
He's always loved his living crewmates the main reason moria is even there is bc he heard Absalom was captured and did not hesitate to storm a Yonko territory for him
21:36 With regard to Kidd’s name, I believe initially, Kidd was supposed to play a much bigger role as a rival to Luffy and Law was just kind of there. But people ended up really liking Law and so Oda, in his amazingness, flawlessly integrated Law more into the story, making him one of the best nonstrawhats! But I agree that we haven’t seen the last of these 2 captains!
I'm late, but actually Oda stated he regretted the introduction of the supernovas because they were supposed to be one offs. So he never had plans for Kidd to be that big. Add on top of that, he's named after William Kidd, "the most unlucky pirate," lol.
Great stuff Merphy, 2 things I'm totally with you on: 1, "Pick a side" being a theme of Egghead I think is spot on and would be very fitting for the first arc of the Final Saga (on that note I wonder what Fujitora is doing right now...). 2, I also don't think Garp will die because there's more to be done with his character especially in regards to the God Valley incident. Thinking about it now, I don't think we've ever even heard Garp speak about Roger at length despite their history together and in my mind there's no way that goes unaddressed for the whole story. Also what better character to take us in to a God Valley flashback than one of the 3 main people that fought there.
Hm, I don't know. If Ace, Whitebeard and Oden have proven anything, it's that a character doesn't need to be alive to have an integral part to the story.
My view of Kuzan and Black beard relationship was something kinda similar to Luffy and the rest of his crew. Luffy never demands loyalty, he offers friendship and naturaly people gravitate towards him. To me, Black Beard did a similar thing but offerring a transactional relationship, but his charisma won Kuzan over. That's how I explain the scene where he says to Garp "Teach" isn't even here. It felt like "My captain trusted me to protect the island when he left and I will do it", something that any straw hat would do if Luffy asked
When you look at it coldly (heh) it makes sense. Kuzan is strong for sure but if he wants to change things he has to ally with someone, he can't just go against the emperors or the world goverment alone. Kaido and Big Mom are way too evil, prideful and volatile. Shanks is mostly keeping peace not really the type to go head first against the WG (for now at least) and he probably wouldn't side with an admiral that helped on WB's and Ace's death. So Blackbeard was the best bet, he wants to rule the world, aka destroy the navy, but he's still more approachable than idk Kaido lol, so he can be mostly on equal terms with Kuzan. Really it's a shame Luffy wasn't an Emperor 2 years ago😅🥺that would've been the perfect match, he gets to help Robin and Luffy the one who will free the world. So i think Kuzan will help BB till Akainu and the WG are defeated and then he will betray BB, which won't work since Luffy is the only one that will definitebly put him down but im sure Kuzan will be of great help on the downfall of BB.
Yep, maks sense he has evil charisma and as opposed to lufy who get their loyalty by building them up, he exploits kuzan being aimless and depressed. Evil lufffy indeed.
I really hope that Teach genuinely won Kuzan over and the story doesn't go the cliché predictable route that Kuzan is secretly a SWORD member. I hope Kuzan will stood his ground to the very end because he really got sway by Teach's way life of basically doing whatever the hell they want.
21:50 Two defeats that lead to the demise of his empire. Trafalgar, naval battle where the mighty Spanish fleet under his command was defeated, and Waterloo, in Waterloo (Belgium), that truly symbolised his ending
One of the things that i love about this couple of chapters is the fact that we've gotten more information about blackbeard's personality, and some of his dynamics with his own crewmembers. Like Blackbeard literally tells koby to not ruin his own dream, while he is literally hunting dreams(Devil fruits), that line is so interesting to me.
Garp being my favorite non Straw Hat character, the last two chapters were simply 🤩❤ Only downside of being up to date after basically binge reading the entire manga up to Egg Island this year is the wait between chapters - how have all you longtime fans managed that for years on end? 😅
It's easier when you can interact with the community and theorize on a weekly basis, otherwise it's much harder imo. I caught up right when Onigashima started so that kinda dragged a little bit weekly. That said, it flows way better binge reading
Believe me, many people are unable to manage that. They complain about the pacing not being fast enough and stuff because they simply can not get used to waiting 1 or 2 weeks for the next chapter. lol
Listening to merphy theory on grandfather, son and grandson stand back to back is incredibly possible to happens knowing right now there are three perspective works back to back. From Dragon perspective first with Sabo's death then Luffy with Bonney; Kuma's daughter and now Garp with his adopted sons, Coby. Kind a logically if they will converge at the end of this arc and start the second arc of last saga with they meet their common enemy make sense if this is really the start of a great war that oda said will make Marineford looks childplay.
Hibari in japanese speaks in same dialect as Akainu, and in the total of One Piece there is only Akainu and Hibari who talk in that dialect. So Hibari might be Akainu's daughter so that is why Kuzan froze hibari, Just my tinfoil theory
@@BlackLotus30 i think he will use Garp, with Garp putting himself there for Koby to leave. Then Kuzan will probably allow to escape at expense of his life, kuzan is modelled after an actor whose famous role was of being a mole in yakuza. Kinda points to me Kuzan will die, also makes sense as 10th captain being anyone other than Kuzan would have put SH in a disadvantage as they would be having 1 less member in 1 v1 match up
Kind of funny to think about. Koby was able to develop a friendly relationship to a girl quite possibly related to the man that nearly melted his face off.
Hibari being akainu’s daughter I don’t really think is likely. A better theory imo is that Hibari is actually Akainu in disguise. He’ll melt out the ice and reveal himself next chapter.
Man Kuzan is such a fascinating character. Ohara changed him. It changed his destiny. He thought he could change the WG for good by becoming Fleet Admiral, and he lost. Here, he says it left him heartbroken. Garp reprimands him, saying only weaklings lose their way. But I think for Kuzan, it doesn't apply. He didn't lose his way. Rather, he found his way. Choosing to live for himself. Garp's words there can apply directly to Luffy. Post MF, he almost lost his way, but he didn't. Because he's not weak. He's not Aokiji. He's not a huge pillar of justice anymore. He's no larger than life symbol. He's.... just Kuzan, the human guy. Not trying to change the world. Just trying to live how he feels and do the occasional good deed. Joining a pirate crew not as an inside agent, it seems, but because he's come to appreciate the freedom they represent. No doubt Luffy helped him see that perspective.
I saw an edit of you talking about not wanting one piece to end and there was a general consensus that you have the will of D. So from here on out I will be referring to you as Murphy D Napier in all my moments and to my friends
Hi, Just a small unimportant detail : Napoléon actually lost both Waterloo and Trafalgar, with Waterloo being indeed the end of "Le Premier Empire" IIRC.
Garp is so underrated (not strength-wise), the day we get his flashbacks, half of One Piece mysteries are sold. The man has lived through 2 turning-point events in this world: the God Valley incident and Roger execution.
Honestly, I'm so worried for Garp because we don't know how much time it will take for Blackbeard to get back. We don't know how far away he is, and I'm inclined to believe that he's close by judging by the amount of stamina it took for that one flying crew member he has (I forgot his name) to transport Blackbeard to the fight with Law. Garp is a legend - but he's not in his prime. And Blackbeard is like the Randy Orton of One Piece because he's a Legend Killer. He shows up, drops the RKO outta nowhere and takes the belts. To put it in perspective, imagine how frightening Luffy would be if we knew about as much about him as we know of Blackbeard? Some guy with dubious powers roaming around, knocking off legendary figures every few weeks. Nobody knows how he did it because, as the audience, we'd have never seen the fights in their entirety. Viewed like that, Blackbeard is basically a horror genre monster in pirate form. And part of the reason I'm worried for Garp is because there's a high possibility that Oda will cut back to the Strawhats, and some time later, he'll cut back to the Pirate island, and we'll just see a dead Garp with Blackbeard's stupid, laughing face standing over him.
You're probably talking about Lafitte, who is not with them and is most likely on the ship at Egghead with Catarina Devon. However, Van Augur is with Blackbeard and they will most likely teleport back to Fullalead very soon.
I LOVED this chapter , im happy Garp learned from Ace's death and is now doing what hes always wanted to do regardless of consequence. Hope its all worth it.
This final saga I think is going to be about “losing your way.” This is a theme that has been lurking in the background that I think will have to come up at some point. Oda tends to use his movies as blueprints for future arcs and film Red is about - Uta losing her way. Then we also have a strange question about characters like Rocks D Xebec. We were told he was a heinous criminal by the navy, an unreliable source that tends to spread propaganda. Did he lose his way? Did Shanks, who now talks to the Gorosei, lose his way? Will Luffy, when he is foretold to destroy Fishman Island lose his way? Maybe the D live a checkered life because they tend to lose their way. Maybe Blackbeard was a genuinely good guy until he lost his way. This is a theme we haven’t yet explored and it seems like it is popping up everywhere. Even with having one of the Vegapunks “lose their way.” I say this is specific to this saga because Kanjuro didn’t lose his way, he was always a spy that just revealed himself.
-Kuzan is such an interesting character right now. He’s probably in my top 3 characters who’s stories I want to know. -Burgess calling Robin’s backstory boring… rude. -Blackbeard’s Pirates devil fruits are interesting. It’s like for the most part Oda just picked their main character trait and made it a fruit. Drunk=Alcohol, Very Big= Gigantification, Muscular= Strong, a Doctor= Illnesses. King Pizarro’s is interesting, taking control of an entire island is like a more overpowered Pica. Fighting him will be interesting. At the moment Lafitte’s fruit is the only one we don’t know. It must be on purpose that Oda’s saving him until last since he was the first one with a power revealed to us. (He had wings way back in his very first appearance.) -Knowing what we found out about ships back in Water 7 makes seeing ships get destroyed really hurt. RIP Kid’s and Law’s ships. They both had really cool designs. It’s interesting that Oda left Kid’s fate ambiguous yet let us know that Law escaped. Although he’s not going to get too far without the Polar Tang. -Considering that Kaidou had an entire army of Zoan’s I was expecting Rumble Balls to become important sometime during the Wano arc. Better late than never I guess. 😂 -I’ve been so interested in the Rocky Port incident ever since it was first briefly mentioned like, a decade ago. I hope we find out what exactly happened back then soon. The fact that the 100 pirates who’s hearts Law traded to become a Warlord are now living with Blackbeard is such a nice, little detail. Things like that are what I love about Oda’s world building. -WHO IS BURN SCAR? I NEED TO KNOW! -As basically the last remaining powerhouse of the old generation I am worried for Garp right now. I can’t see him losing a fight against Kuzan or Blackbeard but narratively he can’t be the one to take out Luffy’s biggest opponent. So he might let himself be taken prisoner in exchange for Coby’s freedom.
Pizzaro was king so he was in control of an island before he gained the power to control an island, like the others you mentioned being more of what they already were.
I'm thinking Burn Scar/Man marked by Flames is either Dragon, Saul, or both. They know each other for one, and Saul's injuries were 22 years ago so he may have recovered since then. Dragon also has a dark ship and can seemingly control the weather. It could be someone else too but we have no other clues.
As @tacorrific mentioned a moment ago in this thread, I feel it's worth remembering that Pizarro is called "The Corrupt King" or something like that, I feel like him gaining the ability to control an entire island could be an interesting look into his past or personality as you mentioned in your comment about Blackbeard's crewmates' abilities effectively just being character traits. Like I could see him having the sort of backstory where he was a king, either by force or birthright, and became so enamored with the prospect of money that he sold all his citizens into slavery, or simply turned a blind eye to the poor as he hoarded the wealth, effectively making the island a cage the citizens could never escape. I don't know, I just think he could be an interesting character. Him, Lafitte, and Vasco are the BB pirates i'm hoping get backstories the most.
one thing that really made me sad about the BB/Law fight is that the Heart Pirates basically just lost their Merry. They've had that submarine since they went out to sea, and none of them even got the chance to process their grief. The ship was gone and then they were defeated.
I love the idea of Hibari crushing on the rebellious guy her dad tried to kill and Kuzan taking some petty revenge against him by freezing her without needing to.
"Don't get involve!" Said Sengoku with serious face "Seriously? It's about my Grandson! But i don't have to involve??" "Yeah, and you don't need to move an inch!!"
Oda is doing such a fantastic job with Kuzan's character. To me, there's absolutely no way that he's *simply* a Blackbeard Pirate. But Oda has actually convinced people that he is. I have always believed that Kuzan has been using BB for his intelligence network (Black Market), since he can't rely on the Navy anymore, in order to enact his justice. If you remember, the WG was tipped off about the HQ of the Revolutionaries (revealed in 824). I believe the man who did it was Kuzan. The only people who knew about the location were the BB pirates and Kuzan would've been among them. He also did something similar in Punk Hazard when he issued that warning to Smoker
If you want to talk famous pirates, look at Maynard. Who's Maynard you ask? In real life, he's the British lieutenant who killed the real life Blackbeard. In One Piece, he's a vice admiral in Dressrosa who's honestly pretty forgettable. I love the real life name references in One Piece, though I think you can't always rely on them as a sign of power
It's my own fault for being too caught in the echo chamber of the OP youtube community; I didnt't notice just how fucking EPIC Garp's been these past two chapters. That summary @9:43 was amazing, "HANDS OFF, or I'll wreck you." 🔥🔥🔥
We seen law be loyal to luffy kid has too since he didn’t attack luffy after the war at wano but it’ll be nice to see luffy and kid have to go through something similar to what luffy and law did
Kuzan has long been one of my favourite characters. The story of a righteous marine being forced to commit and watch heinous acts in the name of laws that dont make sense to him, and then becoming disillusioned and apathetic, was a very engaging one to me. I feel like Akainu potentially becoming Fleet Admiral kind of woke him up in a sense. He realized that someone cold and ruthless would be at the helm of the marines, and putting a stop to Akainu and becoming Fleet Admiral reignited that burning justice he had lost. After fighting for 10 whole days (very different from his half-hearted and lazy attempts in his duties we'd been seeing), losing after getting that worked up for the first time in years was just too much for him, so he left. My personal theory was always that he left the marines in order to pursue his own kind of vigilante justice, but I dont know these chapters are making me wonder. Has he truly fallen to being a villain like Blackbeard? Is he trying to take down the BB pirates from within? Is he just using them for his goals only to betray them later? Im super curious Anyway, great video as always!
People are thinking about this as too black or white Kuzan doesnt need to be part of sword to have a goal of his own In fact its much more interesting if he is pursuing an objective solo, by himself As Doffy said he has a purpose, hes not lost or doubtful like Garp believes As he said himself, he is still him
I think the thing with Garp is that he’s not loyal to the World Government, he’s loyal TO THE MARINES. It explains his refusal to be promoted to a position where he’d have to submit to Government authority over Marine authority, and why he’s still working for the Marines as a teacher despite otherwise retiring.
What this latest chapter really drew home was that characters in-universe are just as clueless as we are and are trying to figure things out with their own tinfoil hat theories. The Blackbeard Pirates talking to Kuzan about the road poneglyphs and the man with the burn scar is just like how the fanbase crafts theories: baseless speculation that's probably very, very wrong.
So, my favourite thing is: There were people saying - for +12 years, mind you - that Garp wouldn't have stood a chance against Akainu at Marineford and that it was just spite. Yeah, I think we can all agree that Magma-man would have died right then and there if Sengoku didn't hold him back.
Hey! I just wanted you to know that I'm really enjoying your videos. Your character analysis and theory-crafting as well (even if you think you're not good at it!). Cheers from Brazil, love that you're as passionate about One Piece as I am. It feels like listening to a friend.
Hahaha the cutest moment when you said "lemme look so I don't look like a fake fan" and then goes to check who it is, and says the wrong name hahahahah it was Van Augur I love your videos and your energy, Merphy
My grandmother was watching a movie in the other room while I was reading the chapter, and sad music started playing when I got to the page with Law and Bepo on the ground and the Polar Tang broken into pieces. Thanks movie for making my favorite character in one of his lowest moments even more depressing.
Captain William Kidd was also known as the most unfortunate pirate, maybe Oda took that route 😂I do hope we still have some Kid content, in a world where Islands and navigation revolve around Magnetism, I think Kid's awakening could be as important as an ancient weapon and we might learn more about it
Garp wants to change the marines mentoring the new generation. He doesn't believe in quiting, he wants to do it the right way. Kuzan quit and wants to try a diferent path joining force with a strong force to figth against the marines and destroy it if that it's what it takes and later rebuild it. They are quite the opposite. That's why this fight is so poetic and it'll be very emotional, prepare yourself
I like to think Kid just had his Moria moment. Fights an Emperor and loses his way as a pirate. Luffy then beats some sense into him next time they meet.
Garp, even 1/4 of the monster he used to be is still a Monster Kaido and Big Mom still remembers as the last time they felt pain 😹(and were handed their ass along with Xebec,Whitebeard,Shiki,Captain John,an Wang Zhi by Garp and Roger)
I never really thought of Blackbeard trying to connect with the Celestial Dragons but it does make sense. The one thing I'm really confused is that Teach as a yonko should be able lead a country, but he still wants the pirate island to be recognized by the World Government.
Probably someone has already told you, but those who understand japanese say that Hibari is the only character that speaks in the same dialect of Akainu, so people say that Hibari might be Akainu's daughter, or at least from his family. Therefore it is said that kuzan frozen Hibari out of spite to Akainu.
Fan theory, not sure how I feel about it yet, but it could be interesting. So usually in One Piece we are following the crew 99% of the time and checking on what everyone else is doing in between arcs. So what if Egg Head island ends up being the reverse of that. We are spending a lot of chapters of the Revolutionary Army, Sabo, Kumo, Bonny, Shanks, Black Beard, Law, Kidd, and Garp with the marines and Aokiji. When we left Egg Head Island we hear a bit of Narration saying "What happened at Egg Head Island the next Day Shocked the World". Well what better way to get that across than the shock us, the Audience, than by spending time seeing what everybody is up to on the same day Egg Head Island is going down, and then seeing all of their reactions when they read about what Straw Hats have been up to in the news paper? So a lot's happened. Law goes down. Kidd goes down. Garp kicks butt and takes names on Pirate Island, and all of those adventures pale in comparison to what goes down on Egg Head Island. We get a panel of Shanks, Garp, and Blackbeard getting a Newspaper the next morning after all off their adventures popped off followed by another set of panels of the three of them with shocked faces as they read about what happened. The Headline could be "Straw Hats take Gorosei Saturn and Dr. Vegapunk Hostage". And then who knows what they read after that. Maybe they read the story and they find out that Kizaru is missing, and Franky destroyed a whole 100 ship navy fleet by piloting a giant mecha. And then the Straw Hats were aided in their efforts by 3 Government agents who joined their crew, and government just declares Stucci, Kaku, and Rob Lucci to be pirates now. Not only that but they even accuse Rob Lucci of being the mastermind behind the incident that. And then we afterwards we get some banter onboard the sunny with the Straw Hats talking about how inaccurate the story is. Luffy would be like "We only kidnapped Saturn." So it turns out that Luffy only remembers beating up Kizaru, but the reason he's missing is because Caribou showed up afterwards stored him inside his bottomless swamp so he could try to sell the Admiral to Cross Guild later for a bunch of money, but then afterwards Caribou just gets shoved in a barrel again because he's too busy excitedly talking to himself to notice Franky walking up behind him. And then Franky and Dr. Vegapunk somehow worked together to get Ancient Machine on Egg Head island working to defeat the Navy Fleet. Rob Lucci is just totally disgusted by the whole experience and wants off the Sunny as fast as he can. New bounties are issued, Sanji's mad because Rob Lucci has a higher bounty than him, but not as high as Zoro or Jinbe, and Zoro calls Sanji 5th place. And then the arc closes with Dragon on his ship reading the paper, and he just lets out the longest sigh and says, "Well I guess I better go to Marijoa and try and stop Kuma, but I guess I better go check on what my son is doing instead." So we get a good look at Dragon's ship and it looks like the official Bandai Model. Mahogany Wood exterior, Black Dragon on the Mast and surrounding the whole ship, and there are storms and whirlpools surrounding it, which he controls to wind to steer his ship where he wants to go. We get a shot of him bellow deck, the marks on his face aren't a Tattoo as much as they are scars from a Branding Iron, and in the background hidden away on his ship is the final Road Ponygliph. Dragon is totally the man marked by flames.
Blackbeard will probably bring Law’s crew to Hachinosu so he can sell them as slaves. Since it’s likely that the Holy Land is one of the final places people will fight, I think now we have a good reason why Law would want to go to either Hachinosu or the Holy Land
The whole thing about Kuzan seeming to be actually siding w Blackbeard is soo clever from Oda, I don't think a lot of ppl saw dat flashback coming (I sure didn't) ! xP
The Blackbeard parallell with Luffy is so great. Blackbeard's crew are not friends, but have one goal, while the Straw Hats are friends that help each other towards each of them's own dream
Kuzan's arc has been consistent since his introduction. His Ohara experience to questioning the government goes all the way to him choosing to follow Blackbeard. But he's still in that arc. I do not htink his arc is done. So Garp. . . is getting captured.
Captain Kidd is also the unluckiest pirate in history so that could hint to why kidd in one piece is always getting lucky with his battles and situations.
I'm so glad for your breakdowns. your like the only one piece reviewer who reads the official translation instead of the leaked fanlations and I just wanted to say thank you, I also love that you do multi chapter reviews
Targeting Hibari makes a lot of sense. Reducing your opponents 1 by 1 is a pretty much advantageous for you, especially the weaker ones. Targeting Koby or Garp would just be a waste of an opportunity as they have strong haki. Choosing Hibari is smart also for they couldn't just leave her be. They gonna have to stay and fight.
this ship that generates whirlpools in my mind will be a reference to Nagflar a ship filled with monsters to arrive to herald the start of Ragnarok the ship in Norse myth had Loki as its helmsman so I believe this ship and its crew will be the main antagonists of the Elbaf arc.
I mean Garp did pull up in Water 7 right after Luffy and the crew declared war on the WG, destroyed one of their most important islands and exposed CP9 to the whole city and he just let them go while barely pretending to try and stop them
The feeling I get from Aokiji is that it is very convenient that he goes from a marine with some ounce of conviction to a pirate because of a power struggle with Akainu. Even the Blackbeard pirates from all the way back in Dressrosa knows it is too good to be true. If Kuzan was SWORD then like Akainu said "What he does is none of our business." Sword is a black ops team that the Marines can denounce if they are ever found out. Also shout-out to the end of Punk Hazard where Aokiji literally saves Smoker and tells him: "I am still me, Smoker." Aokiji is up to something because this chapter just seems way too convenient for his character to do a 180.
I can see all three of the Monkey family fighting together, not for the same cause, but because their causes align. They would probably be bickering the entire time, because of course they would be, but it would be a great scene.
Random thought after these chapters - because Bepo saved Law by diving underwater because BB Crew are all Fruit eaters and can't swim, I think it would be hilarious if to get to the One Piece you have to traverse underwater in some way, and Blackbeard and co. LITERALLY cannot get to the One Piece without help which no one will due to his selfishness throughout the series, while Luffy would get help due to his selflessness.
I'm with you on the Garp/Whitebeard talk. I don't see Koby dying here either. One thing about Blackbeard that I think a lot of people miss, although he is a great "planner" (directly the opposite of Luffy, Blackbeard is also a bit of an idiot (just like Luffy!) so I don't see him being ready for anything. If BB was smart he would have taken Law's fruit and used that as a bargaining chip since the WG went well out of their way for that fruit before. Instead he is relying on a member of Sword who doesn't even work under the government's orders anymore. I am really hoping this is just a jumping off point and we don't lose anybody.
"Who will side with Who!? Who will betray who?!?"
Dolflamingo's words continue to ring true
This got me chills
Did you hear that Hibari has the same accent as the fleet admiral (i.e., akainu/sakazuki). It's transparent in the Japanese characters/writing, but that bit is lost in translations. This has led people to think that Hibari might be related to Akainu, maybe even the daughter. Which is so interesting, cute, and funny because of her relationship with Coby.
Edit: apparently, the only people with that accent in the series are hibari and akainu. Adds credibility to the "they're related" claims
Thats probably also the reason why Kuzan froze her, straight up being petty kinda thing.
Trite but true, lots of girls like guys their dads hate
The Hi in Hibari can mean fire or sun, right? Also no one mentions the possibility that Hibari just grew up in the same town as Akainu, sharing accents shouldn’t only mean blood relation.
it's not exactly the same accent because you can't really hear it from the manga but it is the same Hiroshima dialect.
Doesn’t Akainu also wear a Hibari on his shirt? Or is that misinformation that was floating around?
Koby has the sweetest case of imposter syndrome ever, I hope it’s just a phase. Even if you don’t compare him physically from his first appearance, the character growth that Koby has experienced has been astounding. I believe he’s Oda’s representation of who Luffy and/or Ace could have been if they joined the Navy.
Just like Luffy, Koby has a powerful mentor, a group of close friends and his status in SWORD gives him the ability to do whatever he needs to do to make sure that everyone is saved. Nobody dies on his watch, just like Luffy.
I honestly think the best representation of who Luffy would have been in the Navy is Garp. Garp is more like Luffy than Koby ever was
I don't think Koby is the marine version of Luffy or Ace. Koby is a sweet shy boy, and a bit clumsy, too; he is even scared to say his dream out loud. Ace is reckless yet polite, and Luffy is... well, Luffy. All three of them bring you distinctive vibes.
Nobody dies on luffys watch

Unless akainu is there
Kuzan never had any issue aligning himself with monsters as long as he believed he could get something out of it.
"it will be interesting to see how Oda justifies that" I mean... slaves?
What do you think Kuzan's goal is?
Yea it’s funny how people are calling out Kuzan for allying with monsters when he was allied with monsters beforehand
Law being my favorite character that newest chapter had me going trough all kinds of emotions
I’m just consoled with the fact that he did escape and still has his fruit even though I knew he wasn’t going to win 😅
I actually cried with this chapter
You can rejoice man, there is no way anything definitive happens to law until his fruit's immortality aspect gets used in the story somehow
@@esralper00 this would’ve been that something if Blackbeard took his fruit. I think law will make it to the end. It’ll be scary though
i love how in marineford, moria gets saved by absalom, while on fullalead he gets saved by perona. Despite all his efforts to discard crewmates and rely on zombies it was always his living crewmates that helped him when it mattered most
irony
Well it isn’t that he didn’t want crewmates. Remember that all his fleet died fighting against Kaido, if a zombie die isn’t the same as a friend dying
He's always loved his living crewmates the main reason moria is even there is bc he heard Absalom was captured and did not hesitate to storm a Yonko territory for him
was it saved by absalom? I was assuming he just did his trick of switching position with his dopplegang.
@@dragonwings123456789 Moria the GOAT
I like how we are getting more Garp moments. Now that we are in the end game NO ONE is safe and I'm scared but also HYPED!
Add on top of that, he's named after William Kidd, "the most unlucky pirate," lol.
you can tell how great the One Piece World is just by having 0 maincharacters in the story for 2 chapters and it is still absolutely fantastic
I cant wait for the day that God Valley flashback drops to see how truly menacing Rocks was in order for both Garp and Roger to team up
Hm, I don't know.
Yeah especially as Blackbeard is suppose to parallel luffy but evil 😈. Evil luffy 😈🔥 evil luffy gang 😈😈🔥
Shifting alliances is definitely one of the most exciting twists in the current story. Oda is using Egghead to scramble the characters.
"scramble" holy shit I didnt even realize Odas intentions.... Goda of course its called egghead. Im so dumb I didnt realize it
21:50 Two defeats that lead to the demise of his empire.
Garp being my favorite non Straw Hat character, the last two chapters were simply 🤩❤
Only downside of being up to date after basically binge reading the entire manga up to Egg Island this year is the wait between chapters - how have all you longtime fans managed that for years on end? 😅
It's easier when you can interact with the community and theorize on a weekly basis, otherwise it's much harder imo. I caught up right when Onigashima started so that kinda dragged a little bit weekly. That said, it flows way better binge reading
Imagine me being caught up during Dressrosa T_T stuff was hard to read and I thought it was worse than it actually was. On re-read tho... damn!!
By shoving down the vein every little bit of spoilers in whatever state they are, every single week :)
We use drugs and cry in the shower. That's basically how we cope with the onepieceleessness of waiting between chapters.
Believe me, many people are unable to manage that. They complain about the pacing not being fast enough and stuff because they simply can not get used to waiting 1 or 2 weeks for the next chapter. lol
not gonna lie, I laughed out loud when you said "lafefette"
Listening to merphy theory on grandfather, son and grandson stand back to back is incredibly possible to happens knowing right now there are three perspective works back to back. From Dragon perspective first with Sabo's death then Luffy with Bonney; Kuma's daughter and now Garp with his adopted sons, Coby. Kind a logically if they will converge at the end of this arc and start the second arc of last saga with they meet their common enemy make sense if this is really the start of a great war that oda said will make Marineford looks childplay.
More than anything I want to see all 3 of them fight together.
Hibari in japanese speaks in same dialect as Akainu, and in the total of One Piece there is only Akainu and Hibari who talk in that dialect. So Hibari might be Akainu's daughter so that is why Kuzan froze hibari, Just my tinfoil theory
Yeah if he can't have Koby. BB could always deal with holding Hibari hostage if she's Akainu's daughter.
I've never been more excited for chapter reviews, past few months were so crazy
I think if you went by One Piece naming conventions it would be "Napier D. Merphy," since they use the family name>given name order.
Hi,
Just a small unimportant detail :
Napoléon actually lost both Waterloo and Trafalgar, with Waterloo being indeed the end of "Le Premier Empire" IIRC.
BB shouldn't kill Laws crew. He's the kinda guy that would use them as bait and get Law to come to him.
I really enjoy your reviews because its about story and characters not power scaling. Also how you fan girl is so much fun. 😁😁
Merphy: "I don't read one piece for the fights, it's not really my thing."
Also merphy: "GARP SMASHED HIS FACE INTO THE GROUND!"
same Merphy, same.
This is going to be a snape vs dumbledore situation
Garp took the cake and ran with it these chapters, and I loved every second of it.
8:43 Joining a Yonko crew as a form of self care
Oh boy.. i cant wait for Merphy to read 1082. Knowing her and her favourite characters the excitement is gonna go through the roof
(He had wings way back in his very first appearance.)
-Knowing what we found out about ships back in Water 7 makes seeing ships get destroyed really hurt.
-I’ve been so interested in the Rocky Port incident ever since it was first briefly mentioned like, a decade ago.
"so i don't look like a fake fan"
Proceeds to try and pronounce the only bb pirate memeber we haven't seen in ages 😭
one thing that really made me sad about the BB/Law fight is that the Heart Pirates basically just lost their Merry. They've had that submarine since they went out to sea, and none of them even got the chance to process their grief. The ship was gone and then they were defeated.
Rule number one of One Piece, nobody is dead till proven otherwise. You have some nice theories
bb wants an island with no law.
island: check
no trafalgar law: workin on it
Love the thumbnail. At that exact moment Garp said I’m doing too 😂
I love the idea of Hibari crushing on the rebellious guy her dad tried to kill and Kuzan taking some petty revenge against him by freezing her without needing to.
Ive been a big Koby fan since I started reading One Piece, and hearing Garp call him "the future of the marines" hit me really hard
1:34 " He wants to make an island where there is no Law"
That's why he tried to take him out.
"Don't get involve!" Said Sengoku with serious face
"Seriously? It's about my Grandson! But i don't have to involve??"
"Yeah, and you don't need to move an inch!!"
Sulong Bepo is terrifying. Probably the most vicious looking of all the Sulong we have seen so far.
It's my own fault for being too caught in the echo chamber of the OP youtube community; I didnt't notice just how fucking EPIC Garp's been these past two chapters. That summary @9:43 was amazing, "HANDS OFF, or I'll wreck you." 🔥🔥🔥
This has to be my favorite of Murphy's thumbnails
I like the theory that Koby only has 5 stars because Alvida (who's with Cross Guild) is still salty - since he was her cabin boy.
20:40 kid’s pirates are called the kid pirates so close enough lmao
The look of joy on your face starting to talk about Garp was beautiful
Im super curious
Anyway, great video as always!
People are thinking about this as too black or white
Kuzan doesnt need to be part of sword to have a goal of his own
In fact its much more interesting if he is pursuing an objective solo, by himself
As Doffy said he has a purpose, hes not lost or doubtful like Garp believes
As he said himself, he is still him
I think the thing with Garp is that he’s not loyal to the World Government, he’s loyal TO THE MARINES.
Hahaha the cutest moment when you said "lemme look so I don't look like a fake fan" and then goes to check who it is, and says the wrong name hahahahah it was Van Augur
I love your videos and your energy, Merphy
My grandmother was watching a movie in the other room while I was reading the chapter, and sad music started playing when I got to the page with Law and Bepo on the ground and the Polar Tang broken into pieces. Thanks movie for making my favorite character in one of his lowest moments even more depressing.
The whimsical feel of Chapter 1080 when we were introduced to the BB pirates was amazing.
21:40. France under Napoleon lost the battle of Trafalgar (naval battle, he didn't command the fleet) as well as losing the battle of 'Water'loo.
Garp, even 1/4 of the monster he used to be is still a Monster Kaido and Big Mom still remembers as the last time they felt pain 😹(and were handed their ass along with Xebec,Whitebeard,Shiki,Captain John,an Wang Zhi by Garp and Roger)
We NEED a panel of the three Monkey Ds standing together against the world government, that's why Garp can't die here
At this point, One Piece could become a manga centered around Garp always winning, and I think everyone would be on board.
I come here exclusively to hear Merphy's powerscaling
Ooo, now I really hope we get that shot of three generations of Monkey family standing against the World Government.
I never really thought of Blackbeard trying to connect with the Celestial Dragons but it does make sense. The one thing I'm really confused is that Teach as a yonko should be able lead a country, but he still wants the pirate island to be recognized by the World Government.
Maybe to get easy access to Marie Jois? Just like he became Shichibukai to get access to Impel Down.
Thank you for your energy around this story. Wowwe
Originally Oda had a great plan for Kid but Law's popularity made him change those plans.
Blackbeard will probably bring Law’s crew to Hachinosu so he can sell them as slaves.
Since it’s likely that the Holy Land is one of the final places people will fight, I think now we have a good reason why Law would want to go to either Hachinosu or the Holy Land
That'd be a real bummer, Jean-Bart joined Law's crew after being rescued from that exact fate.
Merphy strugling with Names always make my day. 😂
Kid was named after Captain William Kidd, who was known as "the most unfortunate pirate to ever sail the high seas" 💀
1:34 he made that VERY clear in chapter 1081 😭
Captain Kidd is also the unluckiest pirate in history so that could hint to why kidd in one piece is always getting lucky with his battles and situations.
I'm so glad for your breakdowns. your like the only one piece reviewer who reads the official translation instead of the leaked fanlations and I just wanted to say thank you, I also love that you do multi chapter reviews
BABE, wake up, new Mewphy just dropped!
Grus has the "I am alone on this barren Earth" fishing hat so he's already my favorite new SWORD member.
I Love you Merphy! Great video I really enjoyed your excitement when talking about the different characters especially on are favorite Gramps Garp.
Merphy you gotta punch something in honor of Garp's getting cereal
Blackbeards Rizz Stat is off the charts. One convo and Kuzan was like yeah I'm in.
Most kawai one piece fan 😂❤
this ship that generates whirlpools in my mind will be a reference to Nagflar a ship filled with monsters to arrive to herald the start of Ragnarok the ship in Norse myth had Loki as its helmsman so I believe this ship and its crew will be the main antagonists of the Elbaf arc.
Also shout-out to the end of Punk Hazard where Aokiji literally saves Smoker and tells him: "I am still me, Smoker."
Aokiji is up to something because this chapter just seems way too convenient for his character to do a 180.
This is the One Piece I love. Wano just looks like more and more of a mess the further we move away from it.
It’s the third chapter in a raw without strawhats at all!!
Law was named for the two greatest British victories against Napoleon: Trafalgar (at sea), and Waterloo (on land).
