I can only imagine how much more chaotic Capcom Fighting Jam could've been if they said "Fuck it, any character can pick any groove". Imagine if Ryu could get the level-up system from Red Earth, or if Leo or Hauzer could do Darkstalkers EX-move stuff, or Demitri uses the Alpha-groove custom-combo stuff.
I actually think the idea of having a roster of "playstyles" where you emphasize the crossover of different fighting game systems from different characters that come from a specific game is actually in concept, a really interesting way to do a crossover fighter. The problem is Fighting Evolution/Jam was allotted a budget and production value that makes Newgrounds in 2003 look like a AAA publisher
The problem with this approach is that it's WAY harder to balance, something Capcom wasn't particularly good at back then. At least with the CVS2 system, even if some of the grooves are better than others, people can still pick the characters they want and just play them with one of the good grooves. In FE/FJ, if one of the mechanics systems is bad, then every character with that system just becomes unplayable garbage.
They did this for BBTAG, but to a lesser degree. Characters B buttons were specific to the game they came from (Blazblue characters had drives, Persona characters had personas) and if they didn't use the button for their game specific stuff, they had other mechanics (Undernight characters had reverse beat, Arcana Hearts could do a homing attack after launcher, etc.)
Well this game along with the rest of the Fighting Collection is going to be even more hated as Capcom is going to censor the collection. Looks like Capcom wants to try to go out business AGAIN.
Her appearance in Project X Zone 2 is wasted on a horrendous opening. Likewise, her appearance in SFA3Max was wasted on being a PSP-exclusive. Poor kid can't catch a break. :(
Ingrid is honestly the weirdest character I've ever seen. She's basically the Capcom equivalent to Master hand from smash bros and the few appearances she has just make me question her existence even more. Her appearance in alpha 3 Max made her come off as a massive Mary sue and She's even the one who sent Pandora down to earth in Street fighter x Tekken. It feels like they want to do something with her but just don't know what that something is.
@@Martynde In Tekken Tag 2 I was very confused on why a Kangaroo was a boxer, until I saw the Dinosaur, then I stopped questioning things at that point.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is what Capcom Fighting Jam should have been. Thank you for making this video brother Max.
@@shinyray01 It was originally concepted as one, but Capcom wanted out of their deal for a bunch of reasons (SNK rights being all over the place was one of them). They enforced the clause for Playmore, who had inherited agreement from SNK 1.0, to make SVC:C once the dust was settled on most of rights at the time.
I just picked that game up recently...it doesn't even have analog support. Are we sure about this take? Lol I mean the roster is dirty I'll say that but Idk man.
@@TheMonsterReviews it’s an opinion I know, but I’m so enamored with that game. It came out at a time we were in a serious drought for fighting games. We were just a year away from the release of SF4, and suffice it to say NGBC, kept my ravenous appetite for fighters satiated. 2009 gave us KOF12, SF4, and Tekken 6. I was ecstatic I must say, however I thought the VANILLA SF4 was not worth the hype. I was underwhelmed and felt it left much to be desired. NGBC had an epic display of tag team assaults, special moves, and great characters, but as I said above it’s an opinion. I have the game on PS2 and Xbox 360, it holds a special place in my heart I must say. 😁
@@BoyBlaze2002 You know what? That's totally fair haha, I guess this is my bad then LOL. Yeah I wasn't vibing with SF4 when it came out as well. Honestly I just recently got NGBC for cheap at an expo and it's a super cool game.. it's just far from perfect IMO. But I can see the appeal of what you're saying. I do think it's crazy though that I can't play it with my regular PS2 Controller , guess I'm gonna have to buy a fight stick for old consoles. But yeah I will say this , the roster and like the ability to change how the game looks (pixel quality options , etc) is definitely stuff that was very cool to me and I think it's a later PS2/360 release too. Dude those final bosses were absolute BS too. Maybe SNK will do a re-release and fix up some stuff , seems like it could head that direction considering we finally got a SvC re-release and that game tends to be super mixed as well (I actually love it for how weird it is.)
@@videocee originally RE2 was a completely diffrent game with so many different scenarios and characters, Capcom was unsatisfied with it and scrapped the entire game and started from scratch which then morphed into what it is today and DMC was originally one of the many prototypes of RE4 until it was scrapped but became its own title. You should look it up its very fascinating what these games were originally going to be compared to you know them as.
Well this game along with the rest of the Fighting Collection is going to be even more hated as Capcom is going to censor the collection. Looks like Capcom wants to try to go out business AGAIN.
its good for casuals. i am casual and had it on ps2. tho id rather have Rival Schools ps1. they basically said "this will be the only time we will ever re release this so meh lets do it
Maybe it's a tactic to boost sales numbers of Fighting Evolution by shoehorning it into a collection of other games people want and will buy the collection for. Even if you don't play it, you're basically buying Evolution if you buy this collection.
I don't associate Ingrid with Capcom Fighting Evolution, I associate her with Capcom Fighting All-Stars, the game she was initially planned to debut in before the higher-ups axed the project during development. On a related note, I think Capcom is pushing Ingrid. - Capcom Fighting Evolution is part of the upcoming collection. - Ingrid is now allowed to show up in the Street Fighter Swimsuit Special when she wasn't able to in the past. - There's official merch of her in the form of pins that Udon were giving away at their booth at SDCC. Ingrid deserves better, and I think Capcom is giving her the spotlight she needs.
Well this game along with the rest of the Fighting Collection is going to be even more hated as Capcom is going to censor the collection. Looks like Capcom wants to try to go out business AGAIN.
I still think she would be great DLC for SF6. She fits a visual character archetype that isn't filled yet (cute, small Japanese girl) but her actual role in the story would be more of a powerful species from another planet. She's unlike anyone else on the roster which would make her even more interesting.
@@ubergamer2010theyd really need to retcon a whole lot of stuff about her backstory though, since it messes with real canon in a way people really dont like
@@emperormegaman3856I still think Luke from sf5/6 and Luke from Code Holders are connected somehow given how little character and story he has right now. I can imagine Street Fighter 6 being the “prequel” or leading up to a dlc story introducing the Code Holders. The aesthetic, the way this game takes place mainly in Metro City, it’s all extremely similar to the look they had for Code Holders. Plus Poison, Strider (Zeku), and Akira in the previous game, as well as the story’s climax revolving around a bomb threat and JP looking sort of reminiscent to Death. I think they’re setting it up
What's crazy is that there was a beta showed off that shows that they still have the build and everything for this game. Which gives me hope that maybe on the third fighting collection we could get a arcade build of Fighting All Stars..(Atleast I Think So)
@Ability-King-KK It was K'. The silhouette was specifically KoF 2002 soundtrack cover. As for why K' and not Kyo. At the time of development KoF was in the NEST Saga, when K' was the protagonist.
I think the funniest part about this game's roster for me is they could have made a "Versus Capcom" faction with Mega Man, Strider, Jin and Captain Commando and then a "Versus Capcom 2" faction with Jill, Tron Bonne, Ruby Heart and Amingo but instead went "Nope! Let's do a second Street Fighter group! Fuck, we'll even do a third one!" Fun fact: there was a cancelled Street Fighter 1 faction that would have been Eagle from CvS2, Street Fighter Alpha Sagat with his scar removed and a fully original Retsu, meaning they were going to put in FOUR DEDICATED STREET FIGHTER GROUPS before they even looked at Strider, Mega Man or Jill.
That's because Capcom will do anything but give MegaMan a new game or crossover appearance. And if you do get the latter, it's only because fans kicked and screamed enough for a decade that Capcom felt pressured to do so. Strider is also painfully overlooked. Strider 2014 comes out and the franchise promptly goes back to sleep for another 10+ years
i really hated how there were so many street fighter groups in this game and there was no control on how they play. it nullified any uniqueness or perceived variability in the game when compared to something like cvs2. i would go as far to say this game made svc chaos look like gold
It's baffling how people in the FGC (especially Max) have an obsessive hate towards the character even tho she's not even canon to Street Fighter. Her inclusion in Alpha 3 Max was meant to be a joke that was never meant to be canon yet people spread misinformation about her. Not only that, but it's been 20 GODAMN YEARS and yet people still complain about her.
@@dee_dee4640 The problem with Ingrid is not even Capcom knows what to do with her. If Capcom All Stars never got cancelled people probably wouldn't have hated her like they do now. But her appearances in Capcom Fighting Evolution and Alpha 3 Max feel Mary Sueish with her essentially being a mysterious goddess.
@@DrAnimePhD she’s not even a Mary sue of the Street Fighter universe when she wasn’t even canon to begin with. The ending wasn’t canon and it was used as a joke. The fact that a non-canon SF character gets more hate than characters Rufus or Necalli will never not be baffling.
I hate Capcom for dumping too much of their cool stuff on the PSP and thinking it was going to be a successful handheld like the DS, other games that come to mind are Megaman Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X.
Same. I understand why people hate her but since the two other points, being a mary-sue and looking more like SNK was because of a translation error for the first and because it was a SNK employe who worked on Capcom at the Time for the latter, It's kind of a weird things. (And for the one who put the SFxT comics telling that she made Pandora : 1 - It's SFxT so not good. 2 - It's comics only, not the game who Say that. 3 - Udon don't always make good story, Morrigan was an insult of her character in the Darkstalker comics.)
Keep in mind it took quite some time for the Street Fighter fandom to actually stop hating all the SF3 characters because of the bad reputation that game/subseries had for a while. Imagine a world where we still pretended Alex sucked.
The Capcom Fighting Jam started as an experiment to create a fighting game for the PS2 that included as many CPS-3 characters as possible. Although the staff involved in the development was very small, it was a small but elite team effort. (Capcom Fighting Jam は、できるだけ多くの CPS-3 キャラクターを含む PS2 用格闘ゲームを作成する実験として始まりました。開発に関わったスタッフは非常に少なかったものの、少数精鋭での制作だったそうです。)
She was suppose to be in TVC initially, even had a model until she got cut 😆 Edit: Like @dantemustdie00 , she was cut along with Phoenix Wright and RS Akira too. Ingrid was one of the first characters made and a test dummy model too before being cut.
Ingrid deserves so much more than this garbage because I actually like her. If she was introduced in another Capcom game(Fighting All Stars included) she would’ve had a better reputation.
The conspiracy theory part of my brain is telling me that Capcom put Evolution into the collection to trick the higher ups into being okay with the idea of a new Capcom vs Capcom game
Praying everyone goes out and supports these Collections. I'm to the point where my poor ass might buy both digital and physical. Remember, there was a time where these games were deader than elvis. I want my damn CVS3, I NEED Project Justice 2.
I was literally watching a video from Thorgi's Arcade about this game's failure, And man I would have never known that this game had its struggle start because they led Yoshinori Ono be producing the game while he is literally new 😵💫 big yikes
Ono had been in Capcom for 10 years at that point but this was his second game as a Producer (first was Chaos Legion) and he was one of four people while Keiji Inafune was Executive Producer.
I still wish Capcom Fighting All-Stars never got cancelled man. I love me some 3D fighting games and it looked really fun. I think it could've been good if they fixed it more. Also the super move ending the fight like a fatality sounded like a really cool version of the Hyper Combo Finish.
All-Stars was simply not a good game. Remember how much the old FGC criticized SF EX1, which was actually a perfectly fine game? All-Stars was MUCH worse than that, despite being made several years later. The game felt really janky and dated even after several location tests.
@@kainhighwind2 Yes, just saying that it got cancelled for a reason. As for a possible ROM dump, after 2000 most companies got a lot better at keeping track of which boards they had lend/rented out. It's very unlikely to be dumped because all of these boards were probably returned to Capcom.
Ingrid is overhated. The idea that people hate it with Alpha 3 makes no sense because she isn't the source of Psycho Power. That was a mistranslation that stuck with people for years as their explanation of their hate when thats not what happened, Bison just stole her shit. I also wouldn't take Alpha 3 lore seriously since everyone vaporizes Bison & Yun & Yang suddenly can TIME TRAVEL. Honestly, to me, Ingrid is overhated regardless of the game she debuted in & the mistranslation pissing people off. Also, We should have gotten Alpha 3 Max for the Collection.
That and there's also people who hate her for being a "cute anime girl" and that's apparently too cringe for a Japanese fighting game that has a fuckin' tomboy schoolgirl who's always showing her underwear.
I see a lot of people saying that, but really Is Ingrid even that hated nowadays? I haven't seen a recent comment from someone hating Ingrid. Looking it up, she definitely was hated back in Alpha 3 Max due to the translation (which people didn't know was a mistranslation at the time). I see people understandably hating the games she had ties with (SfxTekken and Fighting Jam), which kind of make it not really worth it for Capcom to try using her. But I don't think there are many people hating her on principle anymore. I much more commonly see people saying that she is too hated than people actually hating her.
Is that mistranslation why they didn't go with Alpha 3 Max for the collection? That's seriously sad if that's the case. MAX is chock full of amazing content 😭
@ubergamer2010 the mistranslation is not why it's not re-released because it's not like there are insults as crazy as the SvC Chaos game. They just didn't do it & I wish they did.
@@emperormegaman3856 Ingrid hate has died down primarily as a product not being in enough stuff for the hate to have been sustained over the years, the heat is off so things have cooled down. People exposed to her via Project X Zone 2 typically seem to like her and its lead to a more positive sentiment around and a defense of the character by people who didn't already hate her. But some of the more prominent FGC voices absolutely still hate her and won't hesitate to shit on her and will spread that sentiment any time she's mentioned. There was a piece a fanart shared by Capcom a while back that got the worst reception.
I remember when Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution came out, my buddy and I were at our local EB Games (now Gamestop) and my buddy asked the clerk about the game and the dude actually told my buddy and I to avoid that game at all costs and instead showed my buddy the other two Street Fighter collection's that were available instead. I later on rented Capcom Fighting Evolution from (now defunct) Roger's Video and that sales clerk ought to be promoted to be a district manager or something.
Despite its flaws, there are some Good Things About Capcom Fighting Evolution For insist : 1) The fact you get to play as Alex, Demitri, Jedah, Guy, Rose, Karin, Urien, & Red Earth characters in a crossover fighter finally. 2) The Shinkiro & UDON artwork for both the character renders and endings. 3) The fact that we get to see Alex and Zangief go at it. 4) The ability to play character's original soundtrack in single player mode. 5) Having some fun match ups 6) The fact that ppl can find out about the Red Earth series 7) The cameos and special Easter eggs within the game, especially the ones about the SF2 Anime with the poster sign in the Japan stage and the buddha statue/Shadaloo Hq in the background of the Myanmar(hope I spelled it right) stage. 8) The special intros........(okay, so we only got 2 involving Sakura with Ryu & Karin. It's better than nothing.) 9) Urien having his Agies Reflector when most fans said that he didn't. 10) Guy, Rose, and Jedah. What more needs to be said. 11) My first time playing Darkstalkers characters outside of Morrigan from CvS1, since technically I never really played a DS game. 12) Getting me interested in the Red Earth series since they never brought the game to the U.S. Plus, Leo, Hauzer, and Kenji are pretty cool. 13) The fact you get to beat the crap out of a magical girl, though I wish that there wasn't one in this fighter, so this is kinda debatable. 14) Shin Akuma. Nuff said. 15) Had some nice stage BgM. Certain ones though. 16) A somewhat feeling of nostalgia. 17) The special outro with Kenji when he uses a certain Mystic Art. 18) Having a epic ninja fight with Guy and Kenji. 19) Had some stages with decent BG. 20) Dante from DMC was in Jedah's ending.
The odd part is that this was the first crossover where Morrigan is not preferred. Normally when it comes to crossover Capcom usually choose Morrigan first from the Darkstalkers cast.
Actually, this was one of my first fighting games on PS3! I didn’t think it was that bad from a casual perspective. I played it a few months ago and still didn’t mind it, but I can definitely see it’s not nearly as good as the other games from the time period or even before it. I thought the game was easy for a newcomer that didn’t know much about the games. I apologize if I’m not a true fighting gamer for liking this(someone said that to me once lol), but I think it’s a neat time capsule that is good to play for a couple minutes while you need something to do, but don’t have much time. Hope everyone has a good day and keeps enjoying fighting games!
Maybe I’m crazy, but I think the inclusion of Jam/Evolution is a positive. It suggests to me that this isn’t a “best of” series, but, instead, they are taking a completionist approach. I think it’s also good news that we didn’t get a few obvious games, like Rival Schools. That makes me feel like they intentionally wanted to hold back some cult classics to fill out a Capcom Fighting Collection 3. Consider: Street Fighter EX Street Fighter EX 2 Star Gladiator Rival Schools Tatsunoko vs Capcom JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure And maybe a better version of 3RD Strike, or Street Fighter x Tekken… Hell, if we’re including Capcom Fighting Jam, why not really be complete and throw in Street Fighter: The Movie… Okay, maybe not that last one. But I truly believe we’re getting a collection with Rival Schools by 2027. It would almost be weird if we didn’t, at this point.
As someone who totally missed this specific era of Capcom fighters I appreciate this video. It’s too bad because it ended up souring Ingrid for some folks. I hope we get some interviews about why current Capcom chose to include this game in the collection, I think it’s interesting the company is willing to put it in there and acknowledge that history, even if it wasn’t very good.
I enjoyed it. I actually liked the idea of putting different characters, from their respective games against other characters, from their respective games. I don’t have what you have, but you don’t have what I have.
4:10 Ingrid actually comes from the canceled Capcom Fighting All Stars game, and I am quite impressed at Capcom for giving her a 2D-animated makeover. Luke (Rook) eventually made it to Street Fighter V at the end of its support, but he's heavily redesigned.
as someone who wasnt there when the drama happened, i think ingrid looks cool, sucks some people associate hating her because she came from the game. Its like dragomball GT. The series is awesome but some people hate it cuz at the time it was considered the canon continuation and didnt like how it was going. But we had so many good things come from it like ssj4, gogeta, the tuffles arc, etc etc.
Im eager to try it if just for the novelty, though I totally get why some would be irritated it’s taking up space for a better fighting game. Will admit though as one who’s been really getting more into Red Earth because of CFC1, I’m a little bummed that only Pocket Fighter is the best crossover fighting game featuring RE characters.
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Ingrid, there's something weirdly special about crossover fighter's new characters, like Ai and Yuuki from neogeo colluseum, Ruby heart from mvc2, Reindog from multiversus, all weird off-key bangers and I love them.
Controversial opinion, but Capcom Fighting All-Stars is the "Versus XIII" of fighting games to me. Major character concepts and story concepts that people are STILL interested in to this day despite not being used. Ingrid in particular is shocking. She would be perfect for literally any collaboration game so why not use her more? If there's a CVS3 she NEEDS to make it. People already think she fits in heavily with the KOF cast. If they're worried about "oh people won't recognize her" WELL MAYBE YOU SHOULD USE HER MORE! Hayato and Jin from MvC2 are still recognized from that game more than their own series'. Why not do the same for Ingrid?
I think that's just a matter of priority. Ingrid could have a spot on a Capcom crossover, that would be the best place for her, setting her up as a Capcom crossover mascot. But you could fill two full fighting game rosters worth of characters with characters more requested than her. And with how limited roster spots are, even the people who don't hate her (which I think are in large majority) would start hating her if she got in over their favorite characters. (See Max reaction to Frank West, Dood have nothing against Frank. But he dislike him for being in MvC over Leon Kennedy.) Project x Zone get away with it, because it has a "anything goes, everyone is here" roster, unlike a fighting game. Which is why I think the best thing to do would be to give Ingrid ( with D.D and Luke) her own game first . Though of course that would be even more difficult to greenlit.
@@memesandhoi2924 Indeed. She's had a rough go of it. IIRC, Capcom recognise her first appearance as SF5, so I think it's possible that they've already begun work on retconning her Alpha 3 MAX appearance in order to make a straight shot at putting her into SF - possibly even SF6.
This just makes me sad because as a kid I didn't know anything about CFJ, but because I was very heavily into Mugen I consider its aesthetic very nostalgic to me (Mugen Fighting Jam screenpack anyone?), so finding out that everyone hates it kinda sucked later on in life.
As a young kid who had a copy of Capcom Fighting Jam on the OG Xbox, I LOVED it so much. But as I grew up and got better & more knowledgeable with FG’s, and videogames in general, those rose-tinted glasses faded away on the game, and it became a game I cannot defend, nor will I ever play again, even tho I still have that OG copy LMAO
Capcom Universe Nexus of Heroes is what Fighting Jam should’ve been, it may be an actual Mugen but there’s a lot more love put into it, there’s even Megaman, Resident Evil and Rival Schools characters and more.
I remember randomly stumbling upon this game back in the day, me and my little brother were at GameStop looking through the PS2 section and he saw it and was like “Oh man what the heck is this??!” I picked it up and was blown away, we had a new Capcom crossover game and I hadn’t heard literally anything about it at all. We immediately decided to get it and couldn’t wait to get home and play it…..man were we disappointed. The whole thing is just a patched together, thrown together Mugen. It’s a hack job. Laughably unbalanced, boring, and the roster is limited. We played it for about an hour and a half and just couldn’t stomach it anymore. The next day I took it back to GameStop and got something else. It really sucked because like Max said we were definitely in the “dark ages” for Capcom fighting games so this game being a complete dud was such a disappointment. We were looking for something, ANYTHING at the time, and THIS was what we got. I honestly wish that they would have been able to put Capcom Fighting Allstars in the compilation instead of this, I heard it was basically complete when they decided to scrap it. That would have been an amazing bonus to have man.
What's funny to me is that if they were so adamant about just lazily copy+pasting things together for Evolution/Jam, they could've just put every character from every significant Capcom fighter game into this... but they didn't even do that. Like there was no reason why they couldn't put in the entire Alpha cast, the entire Street Fighter 2 and 3 casts, the entire Darkstalkers cast, the entire Red Earth cast, etc into this. It would've been just as lazy, but from the roster perspective and the overall chaos of it, it would've been a little more exciting to see that as a novelty.
Fate wanted me to play this as one of the first fighting games I played in the early 2000s, blissfully unaware of its reputation. And because of that, because I didn't know better, I 100% completed this game. I must have listened to the sound test for hours.
This is a relic of a bygone era where fighters had beautiful, hand drawn sprites. Nowadays you can even PAY people to make sprites, it's fucking insane.
It would be amusing beyond belief if newcomers to CFC2 actually do end up liking or enjoying Fighting Evolution, and the old guard has to get all snooty and demean them for liking it.
It's a cool idea but it just sucks. Some games don't need to be revisionist history'd into "The Best Capcom Fighter You've Never Played?!!!" Like, you can say you like Street Fighter 1. That's fine. But it's objectively balls.
It feels like most of the hatred towards Ingrid is simply a generational thing. Back then, people were looking forward to Fighting Evolution and were let down by the cheap asset flip it became, and Ingrid, being the only original thing in the entire game, was simply despised by association. As someone who young enough to be only barely aware of their surroundings when CFE came out, I don't have any of those pre-existing grudges against Ingrid as a character since she's only ever mentioned in passing these days. I just think she's an interesting character concept who was dealt the worst possible hand.
It sounds like a cool concept to have a crossover game with characters from different franchises where they each have their "home" mechanics. Of course in practice it's probably completely broken
Do take note that Capcom Fighting Evolution was directed by Keiji Inafune, the same man who would later create Mighty No. 9. That's probably why Hideki Kamiya warned us about Mighty No. 9 because he saw what Inafune did as he was still working in Capcom Clover Studio back then. Before you mention The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, which Inafune also directed, he was under supervision from Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto so Inafune could not get away with what he did to Capcom Fighting Evolution and Mighty No. 9.
This is one of the few Capcom fighting games I own that I sometimes forget I own it. To the point where at one point I had two copies of it because I saw it discounted at a second hand video game store and bought it because I thought I didn't have it, and wanted to show a buddy of mine this awful game and when I got home I saw I already had it, and was so frustrated I drove right back to the store to exchange it for something else. 😂
I’d rather play CFJ when it was new than MK Deadly Alliance, Deception of Armageddon. Now those were actual bad fighting games in the early to mid 2000s. CFJ’s main flaw is that it’s a step backwards and an obvious copy / paste rush job. Theres no reason to play it over Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Third Strike or Marvel vs Capcom 2. But if you were to play it, it’s not horrible. The game’s controls and basic mechanics aren’t fighting against you like some actual bad fighting games are. You can pick Ryu, take him through arcade mode and generally have a good time. He plays and moves like how Ryu should play and move. Actual bad fighting games, I can’t even do that.
In the same way they hid Norimaru and the secret characters for the MvC collection, maybe theyll announce that we can play a version of Capcom Fighting all stars in the coming collection?? A man can dream
So, "Capcom Fighting Evolution" is kinda like "Star Wars Outlaws"? They pulled a cancelled game off the shelf, and reworked it into a new game. If your wondering, "Star Was Outlaws" was originally "Beyond Good and Evil 2".
Capcom has Fighting Jam\Fighting Evolution while SNK had Neo Geo battle Coliseum both barely made a blip when they released and both had the same concept of being a cross over game.
Im an advocate for proper video game preservation, and I believe that even bad games should be preserved in some way, so I’m glad this game is getting preserved… even if I think there were some games that should’ve been preserved first, like Tech Romancer, or the first two Rival Schools. Also Ingrid deserved better
I have never heard of this but im excited to play this for the first time! Guess we dont need Capcom all stars after all if they do decide to revive it! Also justice for Ingrid she deserves to be in SF6 and maybe MVC4! Redemption arc for her please!
She has show up in a few games between Fighting Jam and Teppen, So she was never completely forgotten, She was in Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX, Could of been DLC for SF5, Was in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash, Was going to be in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom but got cut from the game alongside Phoenix Wright and was in Project X Zone 2 as a playable solo unit.
This game has a lot of potential. I hope in some magical way, they enhance this game with different grooves, levels and characters before it is released.
The 6th gen era of gaming truly was an interesting time for the fighting genre. Hideaki Itsuno was the one that hailed development of new fighting games due to the fact that he was burned out on fighting games and wanted to make something different such as Devil May Cry. Also, the popularity of the fighting game genre was on the decline as console online gaming was taking off and the competitive genre that capitalize on that and grab everyone's attention was FPS games.
The first time i had even heard of this game was 3 years ago when both Matt McMuscles and Thorgi's Arcade made vids about this game and released them on the SAME DAMN DAY!!!!!
Capcom putting CFE into the Fighting Collection is the same energy as when a parent tells their oldest child to take their younger sibling with them to hang out with their friends.
It's just a cruel reminder that we could've gotten Capcom Fighting All-Stars.
Or Capcom vs. SNK 3
I was just about to say that. I wish we got it.
Fighting All-Stars looked just as bad
@@esmooth919 It looked better than Fighting Jam.
And someone in the comments Of that F.A.S Trailer put The blame on the 2d Fighting Game Fans for that game to be Cancelled, is it true?
I can only imagine how much more chaotic Capcom Fighting Jam could've been if they said "Fuck it, any character can pick any groove". Imagine if Ryu could get the level-up system from Red Earth, or if Leo or Hauzer could do Darkstalkers EX-move stuff, or Demitri uses the Alpha-groove custom-combo stuff.
You see, that would've been interesting
That's basically just Capcom vs SNK 2.
Good idea! Unfortunately, good ideas cost money, and during this shit show spending money was not allowed.

SF X Tekken did it properly, but this just wasn’t it unfortunately :(
I know Max doesn’t gel with it but that’s why I absolutely loved Ryu, Ken, Terry and Kazuya in Smash Ultimate.
Pretty sure you could remake it in Mugen and it would play better
I think it's not a surprise why I have McMuscles' "Wha Happun?" video right there on the right side... xD
Wow, that's no coincidence.
"They were losing A LOTTA MONEY, A LOTTA FAST"
Well this game along with the rest of the Fighting Collection is going to be even more hated as Capcom is going to censor the collection. Looks like Capcom wants to try to go out business AGAIN.
Ingrid deserved better imo. One of the only appearances that I remember her being in is in Project x Zone 2 and it’s cool that they remembered her
Alpha 3 Max as well
Her appearance in Project X Zone 2 is wasted on a horrendous opening.
Likewise, her appearance in SFA3Max was wasted on being a PSP-exclusive.
Poor kid can't catch a break. :(
They could’ve went the extra mile and just gave Alpha 3 Max which also features Ingrid, weird omission from CFC2.
It’s worth mentioning that Pandora the big Plot McGuffin in Street Fighter X Tekken was created by Ingrid herself.
I remember playing this as a kid, and going, 'Why the fuck is there a dinosaur in Street Fighter?'
me and my middle school friends were laughing our ASSES off seeing Hauzer next to a normal-sized fighter
Did you also say the same thing about Alex and Gon in Tekken ?
@@Martynde In Tekken Tag 2 I was very confused on why a Kangaroo was a boxer, until I saw the Dinosaur, then I stopped questioning things at that point.
It could have been cool, but damn
Now no one is going to like this game even more due to it being censored. Looks like Capcom is making another attempt at trying to go out of business.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is what Capcom Fighting Jam should have been. Thank you for making this video brother Max.
Agreed. Also to me it feels like the sequel to SVC chaos.
Sometimes scraped projects can get you gold like Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry, while others become Capcom Fighting Evolution and Fighting Jam.
Technically Demon's Souls was the remains of a scrapped project
@@fluidthought42 That's true and from that an entire franchise was born
What was scrapped that gave birth to re2 and dmc?
@@videocee originally RE2 was a completely diffrent game with so many different scenarios and characters, Capcom was unsatisfied with it and scrapped the entire game and started from scratch which then morphed into what it is today and DMC was originally one of the many prototypes of RE4 until it was scrapped but became its own title. I'd imagine it was brought in just so the ratio of 2D vs 3D games in Fighting Collection 2 was even (ie. 4 2D vs 4 3D)

Ingrid deserves better, and I think Capcom is giving her the spotlight she needs.
and to think she was ALMOST in TvC (Granted she was a test model for the game but still). She seemed cool in PxZ2 though
If that were the case, they would have had Street Fighter Alpha Max instead of Alpha Upper. She was present in Alpha Max.

This game was truly the Dark Age Of Capcom and it's a real shame Ingrid was wasted on here, she deserves better and why I wish she shows up in SF6
Holy based I’d love to see Ingrid in SF6
I actually would prefer if they gave her her own game (Capcom crossover or not) maybe restore Luke and D.D while they're at it.
I think they’re setting it up
I want Capcom fighting All Stars
thinking there’s still a working demo in capcom’s studios… we could’ve gotten that instead of fighting jam
What's crazy is that there was a beta showed off that shows that they still have the build and everything for this game. Which gives me hope that maybe on the third fighting collection we could get a arcade build of Fighting All Stars..(Atleast I Think So)
we need Dee and Rook!
Apparently, Kyo from _The King of Fighters_ was going to be a guest character in that game had it not been cancelled.
@Ability-King-KK It was K'.
Fuck, we'll even do a third one!"
Fun fact: there was a cancelled Street Fighter 1 faction that would have been Eagle from CvS2, Street Fighter Alpha Sagat with his scar removed and a fully original Retsu, meaning they were going to put in FOUR DEDICATED STREET FIGHTER GROUPS before they even looked at Strider, Mega Man or Jill.
It was very bare bones. CVS had the pair match mode too. Fighting Jam had a decent soundtrack also.
This is why I would love to see Ingrid return in SF6, just to see how people would react
Well, if Ed, a character who i admit i had no interest, was given an overhaul to be more interesting, i know Ingrid could be made justice
After alpha 3 she seems to be better suited towards dark stalkers or a vs series where everyone has combo and magic potential.
Keep in mind it took quite some time for the Street Fighter fandom to actually stop hating all the SF3 characters because of the bad reputation that game/subseries had for a while. Imagine a world where we still pretended Alex sucked.

But some of the more prominent FGC voices absolutely still hate her and won't hesitate to shit on her and will spread that sentiment any time she's mentioned. I later on rented Capcom Fighting Evolution from (now defunct) Roger's Video and that sales clerk ought to be promoted to be a district manager or something.
Despite its flaws, there are some Good Things About Capcom Fighting Evolution
For insist :
1) The fact you get to play as Alex, Demitri, Jedah, Guy, Rose, Karin, Urien, & Red Earth characters in a crossover fighter finally.
2) The Shinkiro & UDON artwork for both the character renders and endings.
3) The fact that we get to see Alex and Zangief go at it.
4) The ability to play character's original soundtrack in single player mode.
5) Having some fun match ups
6) The fact that ppl can find out about the Red Earth series
7) The cameos and special Easter eggs within the game, especially the ones about the SF2 Anime with the poster sign in the Japan stage and the buddha statue/Shadaloo Hq in the background of the Myanmar(hope I spelled it right) stage.
8) The special intros........(okay, so we only got 2 involving Sakura with Ryu & Karin. It's better than nothing.)
9) Urien having his Agies Reflector when most fans said that he didn't.
Matt McMuscles made a What Happened video of this game a couple years ago.
I'm happy it's back for preservation sake. Not much else.
Oh yeah... Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution.
The Jam always sounds more hype than Evolution
Kinda sounds like false advertisement considering the size of the roster, when you think of “Jam” you think of many things bundled together.
This game should have been Street Fighter vs Darkstalkers.
Consider:
Street Fighter EX
Street Fighter EX 2
Star Gladiator
Rival Schools
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
And maybe a better version of 3RD Strike, or Street Fighter x Tekken…
Hell, if we’re including Capcom Fighting Jam, why not really be complete and throw in Street Fighter: The Movie…
Okay, maybe not that last one.
To me, the only redeeming factor is the fact that Zangeif snorts smoke
I enjoyed it. I actually liked the idea of putting different characters, from their respective games against other characters, from their respective games. I don’t have what you have, but you don’t have what I have.

Just another example of "Mediocre game, AMAZING soundtrack".

But he dislike him for being in MvC over Leon Kennedy.)
Project x Zone get away with it, because it has a "anything goes, everyone is here" roster, unlike a fighting game.
Which is why I think the best thing to do would be to give Ingrid ( with D.D and Luke) her own game first .
Though of course that would be even more difficult to greenlit.
Jokes on you, this game is my guilty pleasure.
Ingrid deserves another chance one day. She can be the personification of Capcom's own redemption arc over the last few years.
She had another chance but it's locked on a port for the PSP.

@@ItsCassius Well if she does get in a new Capcom fighter or SF6, hopefully she'll be less frowned upon.

Now we will all try it out on the new Capcom fighting collection 2 coming out next year lol
Capcom Universe Nexus of Heroes is what Fighting Jam should’ve been, it may be an actual Mugen but there’s a lot more love put into it, there’s even Megaman, Resident Evil and Rival Schools characters and more.
Too many people sleep on this, I mean so what if it’s a Mugen, it’s still fun
the fact that every single reaction took Capcom Fighting Evo to catch their breath
I read there was supposed to be a Street Fighter 1 team in CFE. That would've been really cool
I love that game.. love playing with Demitri and Jedah
Wrong! Hot Take I Like Capcom Fighting Evolution 😢
I remember driving to gamestop to pick up a copy for me and my friend. We were so hyped but then we started to play it.
"NO ONE likes capcom fighting jam"
me: no one? *stops existing*
Right move tbh.
i totally admire you, you know about every fighting game for conversation, not just "i know that exist", you know because you've played sometime.
Jam was a very smelly Jelly
Always like how pyron is the final boss.😂
Damn even Pyron was wasted on there, he should’ve been in a MVC game.
@@squallleonhart9387 like if you play pyron be warned Felicia would keep on owning you with her special moves.
@@squallleonhart9387 pyron also laughs at you when you lose.
@@squallleonhart9387 getting pass Felicia would take effort with pyron.
She keeps doing her specials on you.
This is a relic of a bygone era where fighters had beautiful, hand drawn sprites. Nowadays you can even PAY people to make sprites, it's fucking insane.
I think the hate is misplaced. I think it will have a re-evaluation in time. Characters playing different is a cool idea imo
It would be amusing beyond belief if newcomers to CFC2 actually do end up liking or enjoying Fighting Evolution, and the old guard has to get all snooty and demean them for liking it.
The problem is that in actual practice, it's messy.
It's a cool idea but it just sucks. Some games don't need to be revisionist history'd into "The Best Capcom Fighter You've Never Played?!!!"
Like, you can say you like Street Fighter 1. That's fine. But it's objectively balls.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMANI bet that exact thing is going to happen lol
I didn’t know this game existed until Matt mentioned it in one of the Triple KO podcasts
And thanks to Inafune, we will never get to play Megaman Legends 3.
Deadly alliance wasn't great but deception was amazing.
"it fuckin sucks" there end of video lol
Honestly It would be cool to see Ingrid as a future VS, SF6, or even a Street fighter duel character.
In the same way they hid Norimaru and the secret characters for the MvC collection, maybe theyll announce that we can play a version of Capcom Fighting all stars in the coming collection??
A man can dream
well, Norimaru is a mess of copyright, Capcom, the original guy and the agency
So, "Capcom Fighting Evolution" is kinda like "Star Wars Outlaws"? They pulled a cancelled game off the shelf, and reworked it into a new game. If your wondering, "Star Was Outlaws" was originally "Beyond Good and Evil 2".
I just remember looking at it on the shelf when it came out, saw it didn't have Ken, and passed.
Fascinating that Ingrid was remembered enough to warrant getting a card in TEPPEN.
She has show up in a few games between Fighting Jam and Teppen, So she was never completely forgotten, She was in Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX, Could of been DLC for SF5,
Was in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash, Was going to be in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom but got cut from the game alongside Phoenix Wright and was in Project X Zone 2 as a playable solo unit.
I actually enjoyed it when it came out- was the only place to play Red Earth characters at home for a long time.
Not true, we played it in AZ for a bit. We figured it out.
I can never get used to how Max says "Sakura"
This game has a lot of potential. I hope in some magical way, they enhance this game with different grooves, levels and characters before it is released.
I think I bought this and returned it the next day backin 2004.
The same, and it was on sale half price, still hated it 😂
The 6th gen era of gaming truly was an interesting time for the fighting genre.
