Here I am visiting the house in Valley Stream where Lonely Hearts killers Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck lived. It was in this house that they killed Janet Fay by beating her with a hammer on January 4, 1949

Janet Fay (pronounced "Jennette") had married my father's uncle. Maybe ten or so years after the uncle died, Jen, who was in her late 60s, started writing to the Lonely Hearts ads. Fernandez contacted her. The two corresponded. Jen told Fernandez that she had about $3,000 saved up. Jen was smitten, and when Fernandez wrote that he was going to visit her in her home city of Albany, NY, she agreed. She told her stepdaughter (who was married and disliked Jen) that Fernandez had fallen in love with her, sight unseen, and they were getting married, but he wanted her to meet his "sister" (Beck) first. After their meeting, Jen agreed to move down to Long Island and get married. Even after a typed letter from Jen (who couldn't type) was sent to the stepdaughter saying everything was fine, no one reported Jen's disappearance.
