Great episode, Ena and Elsie in top form (smoked salmon and taking the dress respectively). Didn't see the dress thing coming at the party! Jack and Annie were a great couple. The ending was literally LOL hilarious.
No way was Elsie Tanner able to wear a dress off a size 6 mannequin not even with all the elastic girdles in England. It wouldnt have even gotten on one leg. The way her shop friend was talking it wasn't the first time either.
Sizes have got smaller over the years. Size 6 back then was most likely a UK size 12 or 14 now. Look at Marilyn Monroe, she wasn't small either. Probably a size 14 as would be now.
@@carolineg1872 True! Just that when standing next to the mannequin she looked so much bigger. But you would think they didn't buy 2 dresses for the show so she probably did fit into the dress. It's interesting that in the years that follow this episode she lost quite a lot of weight. That's not to say though that she wasn't attractive at the weight she was in this episode. The camera really does add weight and I swear that the way the cameras were back then they did kind of squish people down. I bet cameras back then put on 20 pounds? No wonder actresses were all anorexic. Now a days especially in America the actresses are basically walkimg skeletons! It's too bad...u mean when their cheeks are sunken in, yuck!!
Len Fairclough sleazing al over teenage girls is very uncomfortable to watch in the light of the many accusations levied against he actor over the years.
Similar to Albert T- I was never interested in Alf's character and don't know how he lasted so long- he was a kind of Harry Hewitt substitute and Harry was much more charismatic (for me).
Was the Rovers decorated around this time? I have been watching an episode from earlier on that month and the walls look different - the wallpaper on this one lasts until February 1968 when it was changed to the wallpaper what we would eventually see in colour for the first time a year later? Frustrating that it is in black and white where the detail is obviously lost.
Mind you, Alf never had a silver wedding. He wasn’t married long enough to Phyllis ( his first wife) or Renee, and HE died before he and Audrey could have a silver wedding!
Clair Marie I was just thinking the same thing! I've come back to these early episodes to see Stan before his stroke. But a surprise to see Mr. Tatlock with a sense of humour and even a gentle manner!!
@@SUPER_WOLFMOON yes I think they played to much changing some of the characters personalities. Stan was much nicer, looked after himself dress wise and wasn't as lazy early on and then they just made him into some drunk poverty lazy a. hole.
H. "It looks like she's been poured into it". L. "Its a good job she didn't forget to say when". E. She's only got to sneeze and it'll be on the floor. Terrific wit on show & inside 15 seconds........
What a grand old episode, they had such fun.Get the oldies out the road then all hell breaks loose. Thanks for showing...
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here 💓
Perfect writing and acting , just brilliant.
Ena sharples hairnet has got lots of little sequins. It must be for special occasions
Thank you Aunti Corrie2 😘🙌🏽💚💚💚
😘😘😘
Bloomin’ cheek of Len! Comes into Annie and Jack’s room and asks THEM to keep their voices down for the party!
Elsie Tanner was the definition of voluptuous.
Here, perhaps but Diana Dors was the real deal.
Slapper you mean.
At 355 Diana Coupland as the supervisor. Its amazing how many famous actors actresses were in early Cor St.
They all spent so much time in the Rovers I'm not surprised they all weren't alcoholic!
"One sneeze and it'll be on the floor"...Ena on Elsies dress...😆
Incase any wanted to know what the song is it's Mike Sarne & Wendy Richard Come Outside which is a UK No.1 during 1962.
And ena gives it a go. With comment about the moon by Minnie. Magic
Serious Mainwaring vibes at 14:45 with that stare. Half expect him to say, “You stupid girl...”

Elsies boss - the lovely Diana Coupland of Bless This House fame - she also made a record - a rather catchy tune it was if i remember correctly
Come Out Side - Wendy Richards - its a small world
Now imagine if Wendy Richard had made a cameo appearance in Corrie ( this being pre-EastEnders!)
And Ena singing it!

@@SUPER_WOLFMOON Probably same then as today - they clinch in mannequins.

I did'nt know Alf Roberts was in Coronation Street back in October 1962.
Simon Shreeve I think he came and went until he was actually made a proper regular.
Alf first appeared in February 1961
Yes he was i just seen him
He was a colleague of Frank Barlow

GeorgeASFTHM The texture looks similar to 1968 wallpaper
You need to get out more!..😉
@@iangraham9988 ..and you too!..😉
From the credits. Story by Harry Driver-any relation to Betty Driver I wonder??
22.43 How will Elsie explain THAT to her boss tomorrow?
At this time the actress of Annie Walker would have been 60. That is not much older than I Simon Shreeve. I'm 59 and a half and one week old.
You"ll be sixty now
Doris speed was born in 1899
Sixty one now
10:42 mrs Walker admiring her table just channeled Hyacinth Bucket ( pronounced Bouquet) in a parralel universe .
Bless this house , 4 minutes
Diane Copeland?
@@andyrob3259 I think it's diana coupland, seen her in a few films and she's a brilliant actress.
When Alf said “Not every day you have a silver wedding’ and Frank said ‘No, must be very nice for them.’ I wonder if Alf thought ‘Oops...’ 🤫😢
Mind you, Alf never had a silver wedding. He wasn’t married long enough to Phyllis ( his first wife) or Renee, and HE died before he and Audrey could have a silver wedding!
Never realised Florrie was keen on Frank...but she seems to be here!
Florrie was keen on anything in pants that got near enough and stood still for 5 minutes.
😂😂😂😂
Well If it isn't Captain George Mainwaring esquire.
Minnie “Me and Mr Caldwell never had a silver wedding. We did have a wooden one though.” What’s a ‘wooden wedding’?
5 golden rings.
Easy on len married man and all
Annie starts to sound posh now 🤔🤔🤔
I can't get over how much I like Albert in these early episode!! 😃 Ena is a cheap old nasty woman
Clair Marie

Ena isn’t really nasty-watch the episode where Christopher Hewitt goes missing ( the one uploaded before this.)

Ena always ready to bitch about Elsie tanner
Len the barmaid 😂😂😀
