Today is my birthday and I'm going to give myself a present! I already started an online full stack web dev course. My son is an adult now and I'm single. I think I know my purpose now. Never too late! I'm going for it!
Max Johnson My original post never said I was a digital nomad. I said I was "going to go for it". That meant planning, preparation, aligning a revenue stream, etc.. Having a full-time job is very smart instead of risking it with savings and going gun-ho to a foreign land. When all those mentioned criteria have been meant, I will realize my goal. I am not in a terrible rush. I think you did not read it carefully. Indirectly you are giving me the added fuel to drive further to reach my goal. I thank you.
Great job Cody and Cadu, wishing you both some breakthroughs in your businesses this year and hope to hang out over a meal and ridiculously ambitious ideas soon.
Nice job Cody. Appreciate the from the heart account of your time as a digital nomad. Glad to see you were able to make the lifestyle sustainable! My wife and I decided to become digital nomads in January and have been on the road since. We're still working on making things sustainable, but I'm confident we can get there :) Excellent idea for a course too. Excited to see how it works out for you!
Hey Cody, you're a great guy, would love to connect. Also, your motivational video "Live Your Life Like a Damn HERO" inspired me to travel and to become a digital nomad. I've been traveling and working from my laptop for the last 12 months and this has been the best year of my life and even more trips are coming in 2017. I remember watching the video almost every single day, reminding myself why I need to do this, why I need to step out of my comfort zone and never look back. Some of my travel stories are now turned into videos as well. Again, It would be epic to meet you somewhere, I'm moving to Thailand in 1 month from now, so perhaps it will be Asia, otherwise, you're also invited to visit me in Amsterdam, when I'm there.
I just got back from living in Chiang Mai for a year, building my online business. Looking forward to going back too. Keep on inspiring! I'm going to check out your course too//. Cheers
Thank you Cody! Really inspired me ! Im in chiang mai at the moment and planning to stay a couple month so is there any place to meet more digital nómads around chiang mai ??
+Phil Campbell Thanks Phil - I guess I'm trying my hardest to stay true to that Ben Franklin principle: "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing." :)
I've been working in a 9-5 job for the last 7 yrs. I'm 29 and discovered 4-hr Work Week just last year, 2015. Is it too late for me to become a digital nomad?
You have an impressive array of places that you've lived. My hope is to have a part time business. I'm subscribing and looking forward to learning more. For me, the most difficult thing by far is to develop a strategy. Those little nuts and bolts are tripping me up. Where to begin? How? That sort of thing.
I'm going to subscribe to your channel to listen to you speak English, I 'm french and I would like to speak this language . Thank you Google Translate :)
Trés bien! Je voudrais parler avec toi une jour! :) I'm VERY rusty, but I did study French for 4 years in school. Maybe we'll run into each other one day!
Hi Cody McKibben: I'm in the U.S military, do you think someone like me can do this kind of work? I have skill in computer (Linux, Unix) and reliable internet. How do I start up?
of course Winn, military men tend to make some of the best entrepreneurial hustlers! You've developed some discipline. First step is to start researching about freelancing, join DNA if you need connections, support, and some foundational business help, but you've already got a marketable skill in Linux and Unix!
2 favorites to LIVE: + Chiang Mai, Thailand + Medelliín, Colombia The answer to your second question is like the Matrix - you can't be told what it is, you have to see it for yourself.
+NICKIEAM 2 of my closest, best friends died when I was 21, then I saw one of my coworkers awarded for 30 years of service, pushing the same paper, sitting in the same office. It was an easy decision for me.
I really want to take that class i am not sure why but something is holding me back....i am not sure what i am scared more if it actually will give me the skills i need to travel the world or if it will not, both out comes terrify me...

Love your videos! Are you in Chiang Mai in July? I would love to go out for a coffee and chat for a moment. if you are interested and have time shoot me a message! would love some more insight on the place and your lifestyle. Totally understandable if you are to buzzy and don't have time.
I assume that your wife is Thai. Does she not want an establishment western life and a western passport? I lived in Thailand where my dad was an expat. I went to international school and the tuition is not cheap. Will you send your kid to the local public school? The digital nomad lifestyle is interesting... Best wishes.
my wife is actually Filipina, so she spends the bulk of her time between Thailand and Philippines. We've got her a 10 year visa for the US and spent several months there, but we both prefer life in Southeast Asia for now. School for LittleMan will probably be some combination of simply daycare/play groups, homeschooling, and some international school. But yes, it is pricey!
From all the videos about the nomadic life I have seen so far, the vast majority of people end in Chiang Mai. This video just appeared to be the one I decided to comment on. It is funny and there is clearly a trend. I am in Wellington, New Zealand.
Hey, nice video. This is my 2nd year as a digital nomad. I'm now in Romania, and looking for a really cool place to visit and eventyally settle down a bit. Did you go to las islas canarias? Check out my video that I published today too !
Of course many of us blessed to have won the birth lottery and raised in certain "western developed" nations have many advantages (though far too many throw them away into the dumpster too!) - but if you work smart and truly commit yourself, there's very few real limitations in life other than those that are self-imposed. I do have a few Indian friends (Indian/mix if it matters to you) in my circles, and in my communities. Same with Africans, Asians, Middle Easterners, South & Central Americans, etc. etc. There is a whole world of "Third Culture Kids" too, who are often born to mixed race couples (like my son), or raised in foreign countries, etc., many of whom end up in this kind of lifestyle. There are many strange things and common ties that loop us together, while there is a majority of westerners, it's not exclusive by any means, and living in these circles has been incredibly rewarding to me because I get to interact with so many different cultures firsthand and mix up a lot of interesting influences in a very original way. If you can speak fairly fluent English (to sell to the western world; though you don't even have to), have an internet connection, the basic tools of your trade, and the drive, it's incredible what you can do actually. Just look up "geoarbitrage" and spend an afternoon thinking deeply/meditating on that. All the best Rahul

I've been working in a 9-5 job for the last 7 yrs. I'm 29 and discovered 4-hr Work Week just last year, 2015. Is it too late for me to become a digital nomad?

I would love to become a digital nomad and travel the world! It is fabulous but scary how did you decide to take the leap
+NICKIEAM 2 of my closest, best friends died when I was 21, then I saw one of my coworkers awarded for 30 years of service, pushing the same paper, sitting in the same office. It was an easy decision for me.

Do you have participants in their 50'?
we do, one of my direct clients is over 70 now actually, and still living like he's 40!
Are you still Digital Nomad?
Where's your accent from?
England, possibly
How do you file taxes?
for most Americans living abroad I recommend filing taxes with the help of Greenback Tax services

Cody for your son's education, check out the FB group Worldschoolers. Over 30k members to date! =)
Can we still talk about nomadic life when everybody ends in chiang mai?
just because Cody likes Chiang Mai, does that mean *everybody* ends up in Chiang Mai? I'm in Cebu, Philippines, at the moment. Where are you?
From all the videos about the nomadic life I have seen so far, the vast majority of people end in Chiang Mai. This video just appeared to be the one I decided to comment on. It is funny and there is clearly a trend. I am in Wellington, New Zealand.
well it is a mighty fine place, and I think there are good reasons why many people end up spending time there :)
+Alexandre Barret
I agree Alexandre. That does to be the ironic nomadic destination point.
And I like how Cody referred to himself in the 3rd person :)
well, like minds tend to gather. However, the places change over time.
